Bloodbath Posed by Husband - a Case Report

    Get PDF
Background: The corpse of a newly married woman was brought for the postmortem examination. It was having multiple stabs over the neck and chest. Incised wounds were there over the chest and both wrists, cutting the radial artery of either side. Total numbers of injuries were 107, comprising few injuries of post mortem nature.Case Report: The case report highlighted the challenges for an autopsy surgeon in extricating, noting and describing such an exhaustive number of injuries with its corresponding internal injuries. Collecting and preserving the pertinent evidences out of the corpse would be the next challenge. Further, spotting out discrepancy with the number of injuries of an inquest report will remain as an additional task. Subsequently an autopsy surgeon also has to face griming questions in the Court of Law, as an expert witness. Conclusion: This case report described the history in detail and explicated all the eventual solutions for autopsy surgeon.

COMPARATIVE STUDY ON HYDROLYTIC ENZYMES PRODUCED BY DIFFERENT MORPHOLOGICAL FORMS OF CANDIDA ALBICANS

In recent years, the incidence of fungal infections has been rising all over the world. The ability of Candida albicans to switch from yeast to hyphal growth is essential for its virulence. The aim of this comparative study was to biotype and characterize phospholipase, proteinase, phosphatase and haemolytic activities of yeast and hyphal forms of Candida albicans. The hyphal form of Candida albicans secrets high quantity of hydrolytic enzymes than yeast form, which helps in its virulence. These results suggest that pathogenic fungi produce larger amount of inducible hydrolytic enzymes than non-pathogenic fungi. In this investigation, plate methods were used to determine the phospholipase, proteinase and haemolytic activities and spectrophotometric method was employed for testing acid phosphatase activity

Species diversity of birds in mangroves of Uran (Raigad), Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, West coast of India

Mangroves are one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems in the world, providing shelter and feeding sites for many animal species. With continuing degradation and destruction of mangroves, there is a critical need to understand the biodiversity of the mangrove ecosystems. Birds are bio-indicators of habitat quality and are sensitive to any subtle changes takes place in the habitat. Monitoring of species diversity is a useful technique for assessing damage to the system and maintenance of good species diversity is a positive management objective. A total of 56 species of birds representing 11 orders, 29 families and 46 genera were recorded from the mangroves of Uran coast. Of the recorded species, 33.93 % belonged to Order Passeriformes, 26.79 % to Ciconiiformes, 8.93 % to Charadriiformes, 7.14 % to Anseriformes, 5.36 % each to Coraciiformes and Falconiformes, 3.57 % each to Columbiformes and Gruiformes and 1.79 % each to Cuculiformes, Pelecaniformes and Psittaciformes. Avifauna of the order Passeriformes is dominant in Uran mangroves and is represented by 11 families, followed by order Ciconiiformes with 5 families. The species diversity comprises 33 residents, 20 winter visitors and 3 occasional visitors. At present, ecological conditions in mangroves of Uran supports moderate density of birds but due to intense industrialization and urbanization, pollution of Uran coast cannot be ignored. Therefore, data presented in this paper can be taken as a base line data

Monitoring of fin-fish resources from Uran coast (Raigad), Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, West coast of India

India is rich in natural resources and the annual harvestable fishery potential of the country is estimated to be 3.48 million tones. It is established that the fish biodiversity of the country is diminishing at an alarming rate in all the aquatic zones. The data on species diversity of fishes from Uran coast revealed presence of 31 species of which 3 species of Chondricthyes representing 2 genera and 2 families and 28 species of Osteicthyes representing 28 genera and 23 families were recorded. Of the recorded species, 55 % belonged to Order Perciformes, 10 % to Clupeiformes, 6 % each to Rajiformes, Mugiliformes and  Anguilliformes, 3 % each to Aulopiformes, Carcharhiniformes, Pleuronectiformes,  Siluriformes and Tetraodontiformes. Among the recorded species, ribbon fishes/spiny hair tail (Lepturacanthus savala), croakers (Johnius soldado), dhoma (Sciaena dussumierii) and gold spotted grenadier anchovy (Coilia dussumierii) are abundant where as  Bleeker’s whipray (Himantura bleekeri), Sharp nose stingray (H. gerrardi) and Spotted Green Puffer fish (Tetraodon nigroviridis) were rare. Stripped mullet (Mugil cephalus), cat fish (Mystus seenghala), three stripped tiger fish (Terapon jarbua) and mudskippers (Boleophthalmus boddarti) were very common. At present, the yield of fin-fish resources from Uran coast is optimum; it is decreasing day by day due to coastal pollution affecting the status of the local fishermen because of which they are looking for other jobs for their livelihood

Cyberbullying Detection System with Multiple Server Configurations

    Get PDF
Due to the proliferation of online networking, friendships and relationships - social communications have reached a whole new level. As a result of this scenario, there is an increasing evidence that social applications are frequently used for bullying. State-of-the-art studies in cyberbullying detection have mainly focused on the content of the conversations while largely ignoring the users involved in cyberbullying. To encounter this problem, we have designed a distributed cyberbullying detection system that will detect bullying messages and drop them before they are sent to the intended receiver. A prototype has been created using the principles of NLP, Machine Learning and Distributed Systems. Preliminary studies conducted with it, indicate a strong promise of our approach

    Artificial insemination in penaeid shrimps

    Get PDF
Artificial Insemination (AI) is a tool for genetic manipulation in the shrimp stocks. It is seen as one of the means for propagating shrimp culture to new areas by controlled reproduction. Attempts at artificial insemination in the dominant closed-thelycum penaeid shrimps species of the area viz. Metapenaeus affinis and Metapenaeus brevicornis were induced in wild adult stocks collected off Mumbai coast. Female specimens were subjected to unilateral eyestalk ablation by pinching so as to induce moulting and maturation. AI was performed two days after moulting on these females when the cuticle was still soft and flexible. Moulting also ensured rejection of initial spermatophores, if present. Response of males to electrical stimulation for spermatophore expulsion was spontaneous. Use of tissue glue for spermatophore retention was found to be unnecessary. Latency period ranged between10-16 days, while spawning occurred within 10-12 days of spermatophore transfer. Three partial spawning were recorded viz., two in Metapenaeus affinis and one in Metapenaeus brevicornis with an average spawning and hatching rates of 30% and 72.3% respectively. Average survival from first nauplius (N1) to one-day old post-larva (PLI) was a meager 3.43%. Use of AI in genetic manipulation of shrimp stocks for aquacultural purposes is indicated

Modelling of 4WD vehicle driveability during tip-in/tip-out events

    Get PDF
This paper describes a modelling method to investigate the dynamic behaviour of 4WD vehicle under a severe driving condition, where the driver applies a rapid tip-in on the accelerator pedal in 2nd gear to achieve maximum engine torque. This is followed by a tip-out event by releasing the accelerator quickly. The Tip-In/Tip-Out events are one of important elements to assess the vehicle driveability. During these test events, the vehicle is expected to generate low frequency vibration between 2 Hz and 10 Hz and gives discomfort feelings induced by resonance effects on sensitive human organs. The aim of this paper is to develop a 4WD vehicle model in a modern object-oriented multi-body simulation tool and study its driveability
