Background: The possibility of utilizing clotting factors in the plasma phase of apheresis platelet concentrates, as a supplement to the standard FFP transfusion for clotting factor replacement needs to be explored. In this study, it was proposed to assess the effect of storage on clotting factors and inhibitors in stored apheresis platelet concentrates. This would give an insight into the hemostatic potential of the plasma phase of the apheresis platelet concentrates. Methods: This study was conducted on a sample size of 45 apheresis platelet concentrate units harvested on Amicus cell separator. Basic coagulation workup along with various coagulation factors and their natural inhibitors were studied in the apheresis platelet concentrates on day ‘0’ and day ‘5’ of the collection. Results: Prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time of the apheresis platelet concentrates was increased on day ‘5’ of the collection but were within the normal range. Fibrinogen, Factor XII, and VWF: Ag showed an increase on day ‘5’ of collection. Protein C, protein S activity, and antithrombin decreased on day ‘5’ of collection. Also, Factors II, VII, IX, X, XI decreased on day ‘5’. The highest fall in activity was seen in the case of Factors V and VIII. Despite the fall, all the clotting factors were maintained within their normal range. Conclusions: Although the activity of most of the coagulation factors showed a decrease, it was maintained within their normal range and efficacy. Therefore, a reasonable hemostatic potential of the clotting factors is expected to be maintained in apheresis platelet concentrates after a storage period of five days at room temperature

    Get PDF
The basic principle of steam sterilization, as accomplished in an autoclave, is to expose each item to direct steam contact at the required temperature and pressure for the specified time.Sterilization is a procedure by which freeing a surface or medium from allmicroorganism by removing or killing them. In Ayurveda it comes under theheading of Raksha karma, as stated by various Acharyas. For surgeons secondary infection is a big headache which comes from instruments, operation theaters, body surface etc. Now a days in modern era there is various chemical andphysical methods of sterilization. But the concept of ancient sterilization could becost effective, having less side effect and may have medicinal values also. Theancient Acharyas used agni (fire), kwath (decoction), sunlight and variousmedicated fumigating yogas to protect Atura from different organisms. So an effort is made to establish an Ayurvedic sterilization technique in this era

    Get PDF
We are witness to see exponential growth of the social media network since the year 2002. Leading social media networking sites used by people are Twitter, Snapchats, Facebook, Google, and Instagram, etc. The latest global digital report (Chaffey and Ellis-Chadwick 2019) states that there exist more than 800 million current online social media users, and the number is still exploding day by day. Users share their day to day activities such as their photos and locations etc. on social media platforms. This information gets consumed by third party users, like marketing companies, researchers, and government firms. Depending upon the purpose, there is a possibility of misuse of the user\u27s personal & sensitive information. Users\u27 sensitive information breaches can further utilized for building a personal profile of individual users and also lead to the unlawful tracing of the individual user, which is a major privacy threat. Thus it is essential to first anonymize users\u27 information before sharing it with any of the third parties. Anonymization helps to prevent exposing sensitive information to the third party and avoids its misuse too. But anonymization leads to information loss, which indirectly affects the utility of data; hence, it is necessary to balance between data privacy and utility of data. This research paper presents a bibliometric analysis of social media privacy and provides the exact scope for future research. The research objective is to analyze different research parameters and get insights into privacy in Social Media Network (OSN). The research paper provides visualization of the big picture of research carried on the privacy of the social media network from the year 2010 to 2019 (covers the span of 19 years). Research data is taken from different online sources such as Google Scholar, Scopus, and Research-gate. Result analysis has been carried out using open source tools such as Gephi and GPS Visualizer. Maximum publications of privacy of the social media network are from articles and conferences affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Science, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Social networking is a frequently used keyword by the researchers in the privacy of the online social media network. Major Contribution in this subject area is by the computer science research community, and the least research contribution is from art and science. This study will clearly give an understanding of contributions in the privacy of social media network by different organizations, types of contributions, more cited papers, Authors contributing more in this area, the number of patents in the area, and overall work done in the area of privacy of social media network

    Get PDF
Background: Extra articular distal humerus fractures are difficult to treat with conventional implants like intra medullary nail, 4.5 DCP and dual plate. The present study aims to study the functional outcome of the extra articular distal humerus plate (EADHP).Methods: 48 patients with displaced extra articular distal humerus fractures were included in the study. Inclusion criteria were age more than 18 years, closed fractures with or without radial nerve palsy and less than 3 weeks old trauma. Patients aged less than 18 years, those having open fractures, fractures more than 3 weeks old, non – unions and pathological fractures were excluded from the study. All patients were operated with EADHP. Clinically, the outcome was assessed by the disability of arm, shoulder and hand (DASH) score and elbow range of motion radiologically, union was evaluated on anteroposterior and lateral radiographs. Results: Out of 48 patients, 12 had AO type 12 A1 fracture, 26 patients had type B1 fractures and remaining 10 had type C1 fractures. Mean DASH score at final follow up was 18.1; range being 12.6 to 35.7 points. The mean elbow range of motion was 0 to 130 degrees (range: 120 to 140 degrees). The mean duration for complete radiological fracture union was 14 weeks, range being 12 to 18 weeks. Conclusions: The extraarticular distal humerus plate is an ideal implant for the fixation of distal humerus fractures since it provides good stability of fracture and enables early return to function

    Get PDF
Background: Distal tibial diaphyseal fractures are known for its various challenges that orthopaedicians face while treating. While performing surgery, many principles of fixations are needed to be properly addressed. This study was undertaken to know the efficiency of closed reduction, polar screws and tibia interlocking nail fixation at our Institute. Methods: The data, which were collected from the medical records and Department digitalised storage system and from the HMIS patient filing system, included age, sex, date of admission, type of admission (elective versus emergency), and AO classification of distal tibial fracture admitted in Orthopaedics Department from 2007 to 2013. Analyses of 46 cases, 34 males and 12 females, were made to find out the functional, radiological outcome, associated complications in treating distal tibia with ILN. During Analysis, association of the single event with the variables was estimated using Relative Risk, with a 95% confidence interval and P value of <0.05 was considered significant. Results: The average time to union of the closed fracture was 15.4 weeks (range: 12–28 weeks). The healing times for the primarily nailed compound Grade I averaged 17.8 weeks (range: 15-34 weeks). Complications of delayed union occurred in 3 cases, and two cases of non-union. Infection in 6 cases (5 superficial, 1 deep), screw breakage in 4 cases and 3 cases of significant malalignment. The final functional outcome of 33 patients had excellent results, 11 had good results and 2 had fair results as determined by criteria of Johner and Wruh. Conclusions: The dynamic osteosynthesis of distal tibia by interlocking nail and judicious use of poller screws is an effective alternative for the treatment of distal metaphyseal tibial fractures.
