Nocardiosis is a common opportunistic infection in the immunocompromised and in patients with chronic debilitating diseases,e.g continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients. Primary abdominal nocardiosis is rare and is indeed a very rare infection in immunocompetent persons. Only two cases have been reported in immunocompetent patients so far and this may be third case to the best of our knowledge and first in India. About 11 cases have been reported in CAPD patients and AIDS patients. We report a case of Nocardiosis in an immunocompetent young female who presented with an abdomino-pelvic mass masquerading as carcinoma ovary. After initial resistance to various antibiotics, she responded to intraperitoneal and oral linezolid and oral ciprofloxacin

Savvy Virtual Assistant : Transforming the Way We Use Computer

Nowadays, technology has a greater impact on daily life and has become more integrated part. Artificial intelligence is playing a bg role in automating daily rouine tasks. Voice assistants developed using AI are helping in integrating daily life with technology. There are a few voice assistants that we are already familiar with, including Siri and Cortana. It can now function as a simple daily schedule reminder, calculator, note writer and search tool in the voice assistant system. This paper demonstrates voice assistance for using personal computer. It details assistance provided using voice input by producing speech output and displaying text on the screen. The major goals of developed voice assistants are to educate users and provide quick, accurate and easy accesss of personal computer.results. The voice assistant will receive input via microphone, translate input speech into computer-understandable language, and provide the user with the necessary solutions and answers to their queries. It supports sending emails without typing a single letter, running Google searches without opening a browser and carrying out a variety of other routine works like launching your preferred IDE  and playing music. Each task can be done with just one input command

The purpose of this paper is to introduce and study a new paracompactness in bitopological spaces using (τi, τj)-g∗ωα-closed sets. Further, the properties of (τi, τj)-g∗ωα-closed sets, (τi, τj)-g∗ωα- continuous functions and (τi, τj)-g∗ωα-irresolute maps and (τi, τj)- g∗ωα-paracompact spaces are discussed in bitopological spaces.

Sleep plays a key role in the survival of a human being. Sleep deprivation has more negative effects on the quality of life of an individual than food deprivation. More than 1/3rd of a human’s life is spent in sleeping. Sleep is one of the 13 Adharaniya Vegas,[1] i.e., the urges that should not be controlled. Sleep is also one the Trayopasthambhas according to Ayurveda[2] i.e., the three pillars of life. Sleeplessness has been mentioned as a symptom in multiple diseases

PHARMACEUTICAL ANALYTICAL STUDY OF KAMPAVATARI RASA - AN AYURVEDIC HERBO MINERAL FORMULATION

    Get PDF
Kampavatari Rasa (KVR) is a unique Ayurvedic herbo- mineral formulation mentioned in the classics Rasa Raj Sundar in Vata vyadhi and indicated mainly in Kampavata which resembles Parkinson's disease. The line of treatment in Ayurveda is to combat Vata dosha and to sustain neuronutrition by Rasayana remedies, which can be achieved by Kamapavatari Rasa with its properties like Tridosh shamaka and Rasayana. The present study was executed to establish a finger print for this unique formulation which can be used further for drug standardization. Kampavatari rasa is prepared by triturating Tamra bhasma and Rasa Sindura in equal quantity with Katuki swaras (Picrohiza kurroa) for 21 times. Each ingredient was prepared according to the norms of Ayurvedic classical texts. Raw drugs were selected on bases of Grahya lakshana and its percentage. To ensure the proper preparation of Tamra bhasma, standard tests (Bhasma Pariksha), XRD, NPST and SEM were carried and for Rasa sindura NPST test and XRD were employed. After been complied these tests KVR was prepared and subjected for physico chemical analysis and quantitative analysis of Mercury, Sulphur and Copper by ICPAES. The study of Kampavatari Rasa revealed that its Loss on Drying - 3.4%, Total Ash - 48 %, Acid insoluble ash -13%, water soluble ash - 9.5%, Hardness test was 7kg/cm2 and Tablet disintegration test 14/min which are within the normal limits and ICP – AES shows the percentage of Copper 20.51, Sulphur 8.9, and Mercury 20.43. This is the first study to establish the characterization of Kampavatari rasa

Adverse blood transfusion reactions at tertiary care hospital

    Get PDF
Background: The goal of hemovigilance is to increase the safety and quality of blood transfusion. It is necessary to recognize and prompt response to adverse transfusion reactions, which will help in taking appropriate steps to reduce their incidence and make blood transfusion process as safe as possible. The aim of the study was to determine the frequency and type of transfusion reactions (TRs) occurring in patients, reported to the blood bank at our institute. Methods: A retrospective review of all TRs reported to the blood bank Krishna Hospital, between January 2011 and July 2013 was done. All the TRs were evaluated in the blood bank and classified using standard definitions. Results: During the study period a total 13126 units of blood and components were issued by our blood bank and total of 45 (0.3%) adverse reactions were reported to blood bank. The most common reaction observed was allergic reaction 25(55.6%) followed by FNHTR 15 (33.3%).Conclusions: Not a single case of anaphylactic reactions, TRALI, acute immune hemolytic transfusion reaction, and Sepsis was observed. This can be an underestimation of the true incidence because of under reporting which can be improved by proper hemovigilence system to provide better patient care.

Multi-band Optical and Near-infrared Properties of Faint Submillimeter Galaxies with Serendipitous ALMA Detections

We present a catalog of 26 faint submillimeter galaxies (SMGs) in the XMM-LSS field identified by cross-matching serendipitously detected sources in archival ALMA Band 6 and 7 data with multi-band near-infrared (NIR) and optical data from the Spitzer Extragalactic Representative Volume Survey, the VISTA Deep Extragalactic Survey, the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Legacy Large Survey, and the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program. Of the 26 SMGs in our sample, 15 are identified here for the first time. The majority of the sources in our sample (16/26) have faint submm fluxes (0.1mJy<S1mm<1mJy0.1\,{\rm mJy} < S_{\rm 1\,mm} < 1\,{\rm mJy}). In addition to the 26 SMGs with multi-band optical and NIR detections, there are 60 highly-reliable (>5σ>5\sigma) ALMA sources with no counterpart in any other band down to an IRAC [4.5] ABAB magnitude of 23.7\approx 23.7. To further characterize the 26 galaxies with both ALMA and optical/NIR counterparts, we provide 13-band forced photometry for the entire catalog using the Tractor and calculate photometric redshifts and rest-frame colors. The median redshift of our sample is z=2.66\langle z \rangle = 2.66. We find that our sample galaxies have bluer colors compared to bright SMGs, and the UVJ color plot indicates that their colors are consistent with main sequence star-forming galaxies. Our results provide new insights into the nature of the faint population of SMGs, and also highlight opportunities for galaxy evolution studies based on archival ALMA data.Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ, 32 pages, 11 figures, 4 table

This is a rare case of pure gonadal dysgenesis, the exact incidence of the condition is unknown but can be estimated at 1:80 000 births. The patient presented with primary amenorrhoea , after complete evaluation it was diagnosed as Swyer’s syndrome, which is 46,XY complete gonadal dysgenesis (46,XY CGD) characterized by a 46,XY karyotype, normal female external genitalia, completely undeveloped (”streak”) gonads, no sperm production, and presence of normal müllerian structures
