Encountered Problems and Outcome Status in Nascent Entrepreneurship

    Get PDF
The relationship is investigated between outcome status and encountered problems in the business start-up process. Contrary to expectations, we find that starters do not differ from quitters in number and type of problems encountered, and that problems encountered generally do not affect outcome status. This Dutch research uses a design that is comparable to the U.S. PSED (Panel Study of Entrepreneurial Dynamics) in which a sample of 414 nascent entrepreneurs were followed over a three year period.encountered-problems;nascent-entrepreneurship;outcome-status

Schottky contact of gallium on p-type silicon

    Get PDF
The evolution of barrier at Schottky contact and its stabilization to value characterized by the barrier height and unambiguous measurement is still being curiously perused as they hold the key control and manufacture of tailor made Schottky devices for a host of existing and potential for future applications in electronics, optoelectronics and microwave devices. In this context, gallium – silicon Schottky diode has been fabricated and analyzed. When you are citing the document, use the following link http://essuir.sumdu.edu.ua/handle/123456789/2203

Theoretical & Experimental Studies on Vibration & Damping of Fibre-Reinforced Cantilever Laminates.

    Get PDF
In this paper, vibration and damping analyses  of glass fibre-reinforced laminated composite cantilever beams and plates are studied using C1 finite element using shear deformation theory and alsothrough experiments. The formulation in the theoretical model includes in-plane and rotary inertiaterms. The governing equations for the complex eigenvalue problem based on complex elastic moduliare formulated. The solutions are obtained using QR algorithm. Parametric study is carried out tohighlight; the effects of lay-up and ply-angle of the laminates. A limited number of experimentalinvestigafions on cantilever laminates are conducted for obtaining the natural frequenciqs, dampingfactor and frequency responses. The comparison between the theoretical and the experimfntal resultsshows good agreement

Phase Transition Sensitive Schottky Barriers In Ga-Si(P) Contacts

    Get PDF
Investigation and understanding of Schottky diodes continue to be interesting both for basic as well as technological points of view. Even now the evolutionary aspects of such contacts are not very clearly understood. In this paper it is shown that in respect of interfacial strain contribution to the barrier heights of such contacts semiconductor – liquid metal contacts are relatively better placed than solid semiconductor-solid metal contacts. Results on Ga-Si(p) contact are discussed in this paper to show phase sensitive contribution to the barrier height of such Schottky contacts. Nonlinear thermo-elastic buckling characteristics of cross-ply laminated joined conical–cylindrical shells

    Get PDF
AbstractHere, the nonlinear thermo-elastic buckling/post-buckling characteristics of laminated circular conical–cylindrical/conical–cylindrical–conical joined shells subjected to uniform temperature rise are studied employing semi-analytical finite element approach. The nonlinear governing equations, considering geometric nonlinearity based on von Karman’s assumption for moderately large deformation, are solved using Newton–Raphson iteration procedure coupled with displacement control method to trace the pre-buckling/post-buckling equilibrium path. The presence of asymmetric perturbation in the form of small magnitude load spatially proportional to the linear buckling mode shape is assumed to initiate the bifurcation of the shell deformation. The study is carried out to highlight the influences of semi-cone angle, material properties and number of circumferential waves on the nonlinear thermo-elastic response of the different joined shell systems

A New C Eight-Noded Plate Element for Static & Dynamic , Analyses of Composite Laminates

    Get PDF
This paper deals witU a new 48-degrees-of-freedom rectangular finite element for analysing moderately thick multilayered composite plates. The formulation is based on a kinematics which allows one to exactly ensure the continuity conditions for the displacements, and the transverse strsses at the interfaces between the layers of a laminated structure and zeros1lress conditiQns at the top and bottom surfaces of the plate. The shear correction factorsare not required in the formulation, as the transverse shear deformations are defined usingtrigonometric 'runctions that are of higher order. The effectiveness of the element is testedagainst standard problems concerning statics, vibration and buckling, for which exact three dimensional/numerical solutions areiavailable

Free Vibrations Analysis of Laminated Composite Rotating Beam using C' Shear Flexible Element

    Get PDF
The free flexural vibrations of rotating beam made of anisotropic laminated composite beam are investigated using a new three noded finite element. The governing equations for the free vibration of rotating beam are derived using Lagrange's equation of motion. The element employed is based on shear flexible theory. It also includes inplane and rotary inertia terms. The formulation takes care of continuity conditions for stresses and displacements at the interfaces between the layers of a laminated beam. Numerical results for uniform rotating cantilever beam are presented by considering various parameters like slenderness ratio, modular ratio and rotational speed, etc

Prescription opioids and new business establishments

    Get PDF
The effects of opioid abuse on health are widely documented, however, its effects on labor market outcomes have only recently become a topic of scientific inquiry. Whereas recent economic studies focus on various measures of labor market participation, the present study analyzes whether opioid prescription rates are associated with the impetus for entrepreneurial activity. By drawing on samples of US counties and US neighbor county-pairs across state borders from the years 2007 to 2016, we find that higher opioid prescription rates are associated with fewer non-employer establishments and new firms employing 1–4 employees. In an ancillary analysis of 50 US states from the years 2006 to 2016, we further show that opioid prescription rates are associated with lower entrepreneurial activity in general and opportunity-based entrepreneurial activity in particular. Overall, both the county-level and state-level analyses show that a higher rate of opioid prescriptions is negatively associated with new business formation. Although the estimated effect sizes are small, they are sizeable in absolute terms

Related and unrelated industry variety and the internationalization of start-ups

    Get PDF
We study the relationship between industry variety in a start-up's home location and the start-up's internationalization in terms of both the likelihood of and persistence in exporting. Using a unique sample of Swedish start-ups, we find that related industry variety is positively associated with exporting likelihood and persistence, whereas unrelated industry variety is positively associated with exporting likelihood and persistence when the start-ups’ employees possess technological knowledge. We also find that employees’ international experience strengthens the positive relationship between related industry variety and start-ups’ export persistence. We provide auxiliary evidence of the proposed mechanisms through which related and unrelated industry variety affects start-ups
