The mission of medicine is to promote health and save lives. Unfortunately, one’s actions in the medical field may sometimes never be enough to revitalize a patient. From my experience, the magnitude of the loss of a patient\u27s life will never be fully appreciated until witnessed first-hand. This poem serves to illuminate one of the sad truths about medicine and provides inspiration for medical professionals to continue to promote humanity and appreciate the true value of life

Progressively Strengthening and Tuning MIP Solvers for Reoptimization

This paper explores reoptimization techniques for solving sequences of similar mixed integer programs (MIPs) more effectively. Traditionally, these MIPs are solved independently, without capitalizing on information from previously solved instances. Our approach focuses on primal bound improvements by reusing the solutions of the previously solved instances as well as dual bound improvements by reusing the branching history and automating parameter-tuning. We also describe ways to improve the solver performance by extending ideas from reliability branching to generate better pseudocosts. Our reoptimization approach, which we developed for the computational competition of the MIP 2023 workshop, earned us the first prize. In this paper, we thoroughly analyze the performance of each technique and their combined impact on the solver's performance. Finally, we present ways to extend our techniques in practice for further improvements.Comment: Submitted to MPC journa

Wideband Radar Cross Section Reduction of Microstrip Patch Antenna using Polarization Converter Metasurface

    Get PDF
Antenna is the key device of communication on stealth platform. It is the greatest contributor to the overall RCS. So, it is desired to reduce the radar signature of the antenna. In this paper, a novel antenna is designed using polarization converter metasurface. The polarization converter metasurface converts the polarization of the incident wave into its orthogonal component. This PCM structure is loaded around patch antenna to reduce the RCS of the antenna over wide frequency range. With this novel design, the overall RCS reduction bandwidth of 140.57%  is obtained for the frequency range of 3.49 GHz – 20 GHz. In addition to this, the 10 dB RCS reduction bandwidth is obtained for the frequency ranges of 8.84 GHz – 10.42 GHz (16.41%) and 16.99 GHz – 17.81 GHz (4.71%). The design shows excellent angular stability for both TE and TM polarization. Discernible Bistatic Radar Cross Section reduction is obtained over a wide frequency range. Simulation and experimental results show that there is no degradation in antenna radiation pattern and other parameters. So, with this novel design the problem of obtaining wideband RCS reduction of a microstrip patch antenna is addressed without degradation in radiation pattern along with excellent angular stability for both the polarization modes.&nbsp

A Review to Optimize the Heat Transfer Rate and Increase the efficiency of the Cooling Tower

Cooling towers are commonly used to reject heat from condenser water, heat exchanger, and other processing equipments. A cooling tower cools the hot water by a combination of heat and mass transfer. This equipment used to reduce the temperature of a water stream by extracting heat from hot water and emitting it to the atmosphere. They are used in a variety such as power generation and refrigeration. Cooling towers are also designed for industrial plants for various purposes and sizes to provide cool water. Typically, a condenser of a power plant and or of heating ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system has been cooled by water. The hot water to be cooled is distributed in the tower by spray nozzles, splash bars, or film-type fill, which exposes very large water surface area to atmospheric air. A portion of the water will absorbs heat and converted in to a vapor at the constant pressure. This latent heat has been long used to transfer heat from water to the atmosphere. Lots of work have been carried out with wire mesh, zig-zag type fins and etc and measure the significant improvement in the efficiency and heat transfer rate of the cooling tower. So, if the spirals section or twisted tape types fins used in the cooling tower than it gives the better results in the enhancement of heat transfer rate or efficiency of the cooling tower. Modern day medicine places a major emphasis on appreciating spirituality. A patient’s cultural and religious beliefs are integral when practicing medicine in order to provide the most humanistic care possible to patients. This photograph comes to show the exact opposite, medicine in spirituality. Medicine is an integral part of a medical professional\u27s life and it serves as a major defining characteristic of an individual. Though viewed as objective and subjective, medicine and spirituality are all one

In this experimental work twisted tape has been mounted in vertical and horizontal direction with 5 sets of 4 raw and 4 columns. The maximum efficiency has been gained in cooling tower with vertical mounting twisted tape insert with 0.0208 kg/s mass flow rate of air. DOI: 10.17762/ijritcc2321-8169.15056

Cloud computing now a day’s provides numerous number of benefits to their users. As the Cloud infrastructure is not directly under control of user its seems to be difficult for user to have a better security. Other side as the number of user grow even it become more difficult to manage a data such a way that user needs for any data are satisfied efficiently. There are lots of chances to misuse the data of user. So, here Cloud providers need to balance this two fundamental of Privacy handling and efficient analysis of data together is become very important. When we talk about the health records of patient or medical firm and available on remote machine issue of privacy of record provided by the anonymization fundamental. Here various researcher provided a technique T- Closeness to achieve this goal. It also important to provide the security of stored data using obfuscation mechanism . Some time full obfuscation of file consume more time so many researcher provided scheme of attribute based obfuscation which lessen the burden of Cloud server by providing adequate security and also help to execute user query faster. In this paper we aim to provide survey on various fundamental given by the different researcher

Effect of low power microwave on microbial growth, enzyme activity, and aflatoxin production

    Get PDF
This study aimed at investigating the effect of low power (90 W) microwave radiation (2450 MHz) on microbial growth, enzyme activity (protease and urease), and aflatoxin production. Thermal effect was avoided by keeping inoculum in ice while treating with microwave (for varying duration i.e. 2, 4, and 6 min). After 6 min MW treatment to S. aureus, its growth was stimulated over control by ~10%. Total protease activity in Aeromonas hydrophila witnessed a 33% decrease as compared to control after a  microwave exposure of 2 min. Similar decrease of 24% in total protease activity of Candida albicans was observed after microwave exposure of 6 min. Staphylococcus aureus lost its urease activity completely after microwave treatment. Aflatoxin production was completely inhibited in Aspergillus parasiticus after microwave exposure of 2, 4, and 6 min. However, it required a 6 min microwave exposure for complete inhibition of aflatoxin production in Aspergillus flavus. Our results positively suggest existence of microwave specific non-thermal effect on microbial growth and metabolism
