    A survey of patient acceptance of resect and discard for diminutive polyps

    Background and Aims Resect and discard is a new paradigm for management of diminutive colon polyps. Little is known regarding whether patients would accept resect and discard. We surveyed colonoscopy patients and their drivers regarding acceptance of resect and discard. Methods This was a cross-sectional survey of colonoscopy outpatients and their drivers at two outpatient academic endoscopy centers. Results Four hundred fifteen colonoscopy patients and 293 drivers completed the survey (93.5% of all invited participants). Results for the two groups were similar. Overall, 66.3% indicated they would accept resect and discard. Participants who were younger, white, and seen at the ambulatory surgery center (vs the hospital outpatient department) were more likely to accept. Those declining resect and discard were more likely to be willing to pay some amount out-of-pocket to have diminutive polyps checked by pathology (97.1% vs 44.5%). Of those unwilling to accept resect and discard, 49.8% would require a zero chance of cancer in diminutive polyps before accepting resect and discard. Conclusions Patient acceptance of resect and discard appears promising but is quite variable. Eliciting individual patient acceptance of resect and discard will be important during initial implementation into clinical practice

    Leptonic decay of Heavy-light Mesons in a QCD Potential Model

    We study the masses and decay constants of heavy-light flavour mesons D, Ds, B and Bs in a QCD Potential model. The mesonic wavefunction is used to compute the masses of D and B mesons in the ground state and the wavefunction is transformed to momentum space to estimate the pseudoscalar decay constants of these mesons. The leptonic decay widths and branching ratio of these mesons for different leptonic channels are also computed to compare with the experimental values.     Oscillation frequency of B and B mesons in a QCD potential model with relativistic effect

    Wavefunction at the origin with the incorporation of relativistic effect leads to singularity in a specific potential model. To regularise the wavefunction, we introduce a short distance scale here and use it to estimate masses and decay constants of Bd and Bs mesons within the QCD potential model.These values are then used to compute the oscillation frequency \Delta mB of Bd and Bs mesons. The values are found to be in good agreement with experiment and other theoretical values.Comment: 10 page

    Utilization of Amul Dairy effluent for agriculture practices

    ABSTRACT Pot experiments were conducted to evaluate the impact of Amul dairy effluent on certain physico-chemical properties of soil and on growth, and quality of Lady's finger (Abelomoschus esculentus) and Guar (Cymopsis tetragonoloba.). The effluent used in different concentration 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%. The pH of the waste water was near about neutral but it contained an enough amount of nitrogen, phosphate, chloride, calcium, carbonates, bicarbonates and suspended and dissolved solids when compared with fresh water. Soil receiving the waste water showed no significant changes in water soluble salts, electrical conductivity, cation exchange capacity, pH, total organic carbon etc. Moreover, waste water irrigation resulted in increased growth and nutrients of both the crops

    Role of adrenergic receptors in shock

    Shock is a severe, life-threatening medical condition with a high mortality rate worldwide. All four major categories of shock (along with their various subtypes)—hypovolemic, distributive, cardiogenic, and obstructive, involve a dramatic mismatch between oxygen supply and demand, and share standard features of decreased cardiac output, reduced blood pressure, and overall hypoperfusion. Immediate and appropriate intervention is required regardless of shock type, as a delay can result in cellular dysfunction, irreversible multiple organ failure, and death. Studies have shown that dysfunction and downregulation of adrenergic receptors (ARs) are often implicated in these shock conditions; for example, their density is shown to be decreased in hypovolemic and cardiogenic shock, while their reduced signaling in the brain and vasculature decrease blood perfusion and oxygen supply. There are two main categories of ARs, α, and β, each with its subtypes and distributions. Our group has demonstrated that a dose of .02 mg/kg body wt of centhaquine (CQ) specifically activates α2B ARs on venous circulation along with the central α2A ARs after hypovolemic/hemorrhagic shock. Activating these receptors by CQ increases cardiac output (CO) and reduces systemic vascular resistance (SVR), with a net increase in blood pressure and tissue perfusion. The clinical trials of CQ conducted by Pharmazz Inc. in India have demonstrated significantly improved survival in shock patients. CQ improved blood pressure and shock index, indicating better blood circulation, and reduced lactate levels in the blood compared to in-use standard resuscitative agents. After successful clinical trials, CQ is being marketed as a drug (Lyfaquin®) for hypovolemic/hemorrhagic shock in India, and United States FDA has approved the phase III IND application. It is anticipated that the phase III trial in the United States will begin in 2023. Thus, we have demonstrated that α2 ARs could be suitable targets for treating or managing hypovolemic/hemorrhagic shock. Further understanding of ARs in shock would help find new potential pharmacological targets

    Transcriptomic analysis of field-droughted sorghum from seedling to maturity reveals biotic and metabolic responses.

    Drought is the most important environmental stress limiting crop yields. The C4 cereal sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] is a critical food, forage, and emerging bioenergy crop that is notably drought-tolerant. We conducted a large-scale field experiment, imposing preflowering and postflowering drought stress on 2 genotypes of sorghum across a tightly resolved time series, from plant emergence to postanthesis, resulting in a dataset of nearly 400 transcriptomes. We observed a fast and global transcriptomic response in leaf and root tissues with clear temporal patterns, including modulation of well-known drought pathways. We also identified genotypic differences in core photosynthesis and reactive oxygen species scavenging pathways, highlighting possible mechanisms of drought tolerance and of the delayed senescence, characteristic of the stay-green phenotype. Finally, we discovered a large-scale depletion in the expression of genes critical to arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) symbiosis, with a corresponding drop in AM fungal mass in the plants' roots

    FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF BILAYERED FLOATING TABLET OF DILTIAZEM DRUG

    Aim of study was to develop bilayered floating drug delivery for treatment of hypertension by delivering loading and maintenance dose for fast achievement of peak plasma concentration and maintaining the same respectively. The prepared drug loaded bilayered floating tablets were evaluated for pre and post compression parameters. Stability study of the promising formulation was also performed. The tablets were prepared by direct compression method. The loading dose was delivered in the form of immediate release layer prepared by different super-disintegrations and maintenance dose was delivered through sustained release layer prepared by using polymers like HPMC K15M and Carbopol 934P. Both the immediate release layer and sustained release layers were separately optimized and then combined to optimize the bilayered floating tablets. No interactions were found between drug and excipients. Formulation containing crosscarmellose sodium shows immediate drug release. Formulation Containing HPMC K15M shows sustained release action and bilayered formulations FB7 shows releases up to 12 hours with good buoyancy and total floating time. All the Bilayered floating formulations buoyant up to 12 hrs. Bilayered floating tablets with release characteristics offer critical advantages such as, site specificity with improved absorption and efficacy. This technology can be inculcated to various medicaments which have stomach as the major site of absorption. Key words: Diltiazem, Bilayered floating tablet, sustain release table
