    De las catacumbas a los últimos confines: violencia, sentido y representación en los periplos del martirio

    En este trabajo propongo un análisis transversal de las figuras del mártir y del martirio. Recurriendo a la noción de mediación, en la primera parte analizo el rol protagónico de las representaciones del martirio en las prácticas de la memoria durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVI. Analizo algunas de las condiciones que contribuyeron a la emergencia de una "cultura del martirio" y el rol de las mediaciones en tal surgimiento. En la segunda parte, estudio la forma en que el (re)descubrimiento de las catacumbas romanas, abrió un campo de producción de sentido en torno a la figura del martirio. En la tercera parte, centrándome en la Compañía de Jesús, analizo algunas mediaciones a través de las cuáles las figuras del martirio transgredieron las fronteras de iglesias y conventos para proyectarse a los últimos confines en un mundo en plena expansión.Neste artigo proponho uma análise transversal das figuras do mártir e do martírio. Na segunda parte, eu estudo como a (re) descoberta das catacumbas romanas abriu um campo de produção de significados em torno da figura do martírio. Na terceira parte, com foco na Companhia de Jesus, analiso algumas mediações pelas quais as representações do martírio transgrediram as fronteiras de igrejas e conventos para se projetar nas fronteiras de um mundo em plena expansão mundial.This paper proposes a cross-sectional analysis of martyr and martyrdom. Through the notion of mediation, in the first part I analyze the leading role of representations of martyrdom in memory practices during the second half of the sixteenth century. I analyze some of the conditions that contributed to the emergence of a "martyrdom's culture" and the role of mediation in such emergence. The second part studies how the (re)discovery of the Roman catacombs encouraged the production of meanings around the figure of martyrdom. In the third part, focusing on the Society of Jesus, I analyze a few instances of mediation through which the figures of martyrdom transgressed the boundaries of churches and convents to project themselves to the last frontiers of a world in full expansion.Fil: Salamanca Villamizar, Carlos Arturo.     The sexuality of couples formed during the pandemic: An exploratory study

    Covid-19 has been affecting people’s lives on a social, economic, emotional, and sexual level. This study aims to investigate any change in how couples formed during the pandemic got to know the partner and experienced sexuality, including factors that could have influenced those changes in comparison with a pre-pandemic period. Particularly, focus groups (N = 26 women) were conducted and an online questionnaire (N = 120; 41 men and 79 women) was administered. Given the exploratory qualitative nature of the present research, no specific hypothesis was tested. Most of the sample reported an increase in sexual desire, sexual frequency, and quality of intercourse, perceiving an early development of intimacy. The results highlight the lack of stress and fear of contagion. The intense state of euphoria, typical of the initial phase of the relationship, has perhaps allowed the couples to overcome the obstacles due to the restrictions. This study underlines the role of being in love in the survival of the species, as it allows for the creation of steady relationships even in moments of danger

    Functional analysis of iron transporter Nramp2 (SLC11A2) from Dictyostelium discoideum

    Iron plays a leading role in many essential cellular functions, but it is also potentially toxic being able to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) that can damage cell components. The social amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum is a model organism for studying cellular iron homeostasis having a subcellular localization of iron transporters (Nramps) that resembles that of macrophages. The ortholog of Nramp1 (SLC11A1) transporter is expressed in phago-lysosomes and is involved in resistance to bacterial infection mediating the efflux of iron and manganese from the phago-lysosomes to the cytosol; Nramp2 (SLC11A2) ortholog is localized in the contractile vacuole, that may have a role of reservoir of iron in a cell lacking ferritin. Nramp2 was expressed on the membrane of Xenopus laevis oocytes, therefore, the N- and C- termini of the protein were replaced with the corresponding regions of murine transporter DMT1. The cRNA was injected and classical radiochemical techniques and a fluorophore indicator (calcein) quenched by the entrance in the cytoplasm of divalent ions, were used for studying Nramp2 activity. Our experiments showed that Nramp2 iron transport is Na+-dependent and proton independent. It prefers ferrous iron and it can transports, Cd++, Co++, Mn++ and Zn++. Dictyostelium Nramp2, in synergy with Nramp1, appears to contribute to the regulation of the iron homeostasis of the cell allowing the efflux of the ion from the vacuole to the cytosol

    A Geostatistical Approach to Map Near-Surface Soil Moisture through Hyperspatial Resolution Thermal Inertia

    Thermal inertia has been applied to map soil water content exploiting remote sensing data in the short and long wave regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Over the last years, optical and thermal cameras were sufficiently miniaturized to be loaded onboard of unmanned aerial systems (UASs), which provide unprecedented potentials to derive hyperspatial resolution thermal inertia for soil water content mapping. In this study, we apply a simplification of thermal inertia, the apparent thermal inertia (ATI), over pixels where underlying thermal inertia hypotheses are fulfilled (unshaded bare soil). Then, a kriging algorithm is used to spatialize the ATI to get a soil water content map. The proposed method was applied to an experimental area of the Alento River catchment, in southern Italy. Daytime radiometric optical multispectral and day and nighttime radiometric thermal images were acquired via a UAS, while in,,situin ,,situ soil water content was measured through the thermo-gravimetric and time domain reflectometry (TDR) methods. The determination coefficient between ATI and soil water content measured over unshaded bare soil was 0.67 for the gravimetric method and 0.73 for the TDR. After interpolation, the correlation slightly decreased due to the introduction of measurements on vegetated or shadowed positions ( r2=0.59r^{2} = 0.59 for gravimetric method; r2=0.65r^{2} = 0.65 for TDR). The proposed method shows promising results to map the soil water content even over vegetated or shadowed areas by exploiting hyperspatial resolution data and geostatistical analysis
