    A literature review of the use of gamification in accounting education

    [EN] Gamification is a tool that is increasingly used in the field of teaching at all levels of education, from primary to university. Despite the fact that Business Management and Accounting have not remained on the sidelines in studies on the use of game-based learning, the scarcity of such work in this field provides us with only a limited vision of the research that is being carried out in the area. In order to fill this research gap, this paper analyses the academic literature in detail on the use of gamification in accounting education. To this end, an in-depth review of scientific documents retrieved from academic databases has been carried out with the aim of: a) identifying the methodologies used in the research, b) examining the types of games used by researchers, c) establishing the different educational stages where this research is being carried out, d) analysing the samples used, and e) analysing the results obtained in the studies.     Relativistic Treatment of Hypernuclear Decay

    We compute for the first time the decay width of lambda-hypernuclei in a relativistic mean-field approximation to the Walecka model. Due to the small mass difference between the lambda-hyperon and its decay products---a nucleon and a pion---the mesonic component of the decay is strongly Pauli blocked in the nuclear medium. Thus, the in-medium decay becomes dominated by the non-mesonic, or two-body, component of the decay. For this mode, the lambda-hyperon decays into a nucleon and a spacelike nuclear excitation. In this work we concentrate exclusively on the pion-like modes. By relying on the analytic structure of the nucleon and pion propagators, we express the non-mesonic component of the decay in terms of the spin-longitudinal response function. This response has been constrained from precise quasielastic (p,n) measurements done at LAMPF. We compute the spin-longitudinal response in a relativistic random-phase-approximation model that reproduces accurately the quasielastic data. By doing so, we obtain hypernuclear decay widths that are considerably smaller---by factors of two or three---relative to existing nonrelativistic calculations.Comment: Revtex: 18 pages and 4 postscript figure

    Novel Weak Decays in Doubly Strange Systems

    The strangeness-changing (ΔS=1\Delta S = 1) weak baryon-baryon interaction is studied through the nonmesonic weak decay of double-Λ\Lambda hypernuclei. Besides the usual nucleon-induced decay ΛNNN\Lambda N \to N N we discuss novel hyperon-induced decay modes ΛΛΛN\Lambda \Lambda \to \Lambda N and ΛΛΣN\Lambda \Lambda \to \Sigma N. These reactions provide unique access to the exotic ΛΛ\Lambda \LambdaK and ΛΣ\Lambda \SigmaK vertices which place new constraints on Chiral Pertubation Theory (χ\chiPT) in the weak SU(3) sector. Within a meson-exchange framework, we use the pseudoscalar π,η,K\pi,\eta,K octet for the long-range part while parametrizing the short-range part through the vector mesons ρ,ω,K\rho, \omega, K^*. Realistic baryon-baryon forces for the S=0,1S=0,-1 and -2 sectors account for the strong interaction in the initial and final states. For ΛΛ6^6_{\Lambda \Lambda}He the new hyperon-induced decay modes account for up to 4% of the total nonmesonic decay rate.     Natural history of a visceral leishmaniasis outbreak in highland Ethiopia

    In May 2005, visceral leishmaniasis (VL) was recognized for the first time in Libo Kemken, Ethiopia, a highland region where only few cases had been reported before. We analyzed records of VL patients treated from May 25, 2005 to December 13, 2007 by the only VL treatment center in the area, maintained by Médecins Sans Frontières-Ethiopia, Operational Center Barcelona-Athens. The median age was 18 years; 77.6% were male. The overall case fatality rate was 4%, but adults 45 years or older were five times as likely to die as 5-29 year olds. Other factors associated with increased mortality included HIV infection, edema, severe malnutrition, pneumonia, tuberculosis, and vomiting. The VL epidemic expanded rapidly over a several-year period, culminating in an epidemic peak in the last third of 2005, spread over two districts, and transformed into a sustained endemic situation by 2007

    Multi-Pion States in Lattice QCD and the Charged-Pion Condensate

    The ground-state energies of systems containing up to twelve π+\pi^+'s in a spatial volume V ~ (2.5 fm)^3 are computed in dynamical, mixed-action lattice QCD at a lattice spacing of ~ 0.125 fm for four different values of the light quark masses. Clean signals are seen for each ground state, allowing for a precise extraction of both the π+π+\pi^+\pi^+ scattering length and π+π+π+\pi^+\pi^+\pi^+-interaction from a correlated analysis of systems containing different numbers of π+\pi^+'s. This extraction of the π+π+\pi^+\pi^+ scattering length is consistent with than that from the π+π+\pi^+\pi^+-system alone. The large number of systems studied here significantly strengthens the arguments presented in our earlier work and unambiguously demonstrates the presence of a low energy π+π+π+\pi^+\pi^+\pi^+-interaction. The equation of state of a π+\pi^+ gas is investigated using our numerical results and the density dependence of the isospin chemical potential for these systems agrees well with the theoretical expectations of leading order chiral perturbation theory. The chemical potential is found to receive a substantial contribution from the π+π+π+\pi^+\pi^+\pi^+-interaction at the lighter pion masses. An important technical aspect of this work is the demonstration of the necessity of performing propagator contractions in greater than double precision to extract the correct results.Comment: 38 pages, 20 figure

    Strangeness nuclear physics: a critical review on selected topics

This includes production, structure and weak decay of Λ\Lambda--Hypernuclei, the Kˉ\bar K nuclear interaction and the possible existence of Kˉ\bar K bound states in nuclei.
