    A prospective study on surgical fixation of complex supracondylar femur fracture with distal femoral locking compression plate: our experiences at a tertiary care centre

    Background: The optimal treatment of complex supracondylar femur fractures remains always challenging and controversial. the purpose of this prospective study was to evaluate the efficacy of distal femoral locking compression plate (DF-LCP) in terms of functional outcome and union rate for highly unstable complex supracondylar femur fractures and to determine the influencing factors of an unfavourable outcome.Methods: After obtaining approval from institutional ethics committee, 45 patients with complex supracondylar femur fractures were managed by open reduction and internal fixation with DF-LCP through lateral approach and as per standard protocol. The follow-up results were analysed clinically and radiologically, using the “Schatzker and Lambert criteria” at once in a month for first three months, once in three months up to one year and once in six months thereafter up to 2 years post-operatively.Results: In the present study, average duration of radiological union was 16 (range 12-22) weeks. The average range of motion of knee joint was 105 degrees. Out of 45 patients, clinical results were excellent in 48.9%, good in 17.8%, fair in 22.2% and poor in 11.1% patients according to Schatzker and Lambert criteria. Knee stiffness (7 cases), secondary arthritis (5 cases), and non-union (4 cases) were the main complications observed in this study, which were treated accordingly.Conclusions: DF-LCP holds the metaphyseal bone strongly and prevents metaphyseal collapse and mal-rotation in complex or highly unstable supracondylar femur fractures and simultaneously, it provides stable fixation to promote fracture union and allows early rehabilitation with acceptable complications

    Management of lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) by local infiltration of platelet rich plasma an outcome study

    Background: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been recently the emerging biological therapy in which a large pool of signals released from platelets producing a biological microenvironment for local and migrating cells for tissue regeneration. A prospective randomized observational study was done to assess the efficacy of autologous PRP injection in lateral epicondylitis of elbow.Methods: A total 100 patients of lateral epicondylitis were selected and treated from December 2015 to November 2017. VAS (visual analogue scale) and PRTEE (patient rated tennis elbow evaluation) scoring were used for clinical and functional assessment at pre-injection, 2nd week, 4th week, 3rd month and 6th month.Results: At the end of 6 months follow-up 61% patients were completely relieved of pain. 34% patients had mild pain that was significantly decreased (p value <0.0001) from mean VAS (75) and mean PRTEE (78.62) to mean VAS (6.05) and mean PRTEE (5.63). 5 patients were lost their 6 months follow-up. There was a significant increase in post intervention pain for few days in 70% patients. Recurrence rate of 0% was noted at the end of 6 months follow-up.Conclusions: An injection of PRP improves pain and function in patients suffering from lateral epicondylitis

    Effect of Indole 3-butyric acid (IBA), rooting media and their interaction on different rooting and growth characteristic of air-layers in guava (Psidium guajava L. cv. L-49)

    The present investigation was undertaken to study the effect of different concentrations of Indole 3-butyric acid (0, 2000, 4000, 8000 and 10000 ppm), different types of rooting media (i.e. sphagnum moss, coco peat, vermicompost, sphagnum moss + coco peat and sphagnum moss + coco peat + vermicompost) and the interaction of these in different combinations on rooting and growth characteristic of guava, cv. L-49. The results revealed that the exogenous application of Indole 3-butyric acid (IBA) 8000 ppm with media combination of sphagnum moss + coco peat + vermicompost (I3M5) significantly increased the root characters i.e. success percent of air-layers (83.3 %), callus formation (23.7), number of primary roots (24.21) and secondary roots (32.57); and growth characters i.e. number of leaves (48.17), branches (7.92) and sprouts (8.48) and survival percentages (83.18) over the other treatments and control. Among the rooting media, the combination of sphagnum moss + coco peat + vermicompost (M5) produced the highest rooting percentage (71.27), root characters and growth characters during months of July and August

    Effect of music on post-exercise recovery rate in young healthy individuals

    Background: Music has been used in exercise classes for many decades. The role of music in increasing the exercise performance is well recognized but there is very little information about effect of music on post-exercise recovery time.Methods: The present study was conducted to see the effect of musical sounds on post-exercise recovery time following moderate exercise with Harvard step test in young healthy volunteers. 30 young healthy volunteers (17 males, 13 females) aged between 17 to 20 years were recruited for the study. Pulse rate, systolic BP, diastolic BP were recorded prior to exercise in lying down position. The participants were subjected to moderate exercise by Harvard step test for 3 minutes on 3 consecutive days. They were allowed to rest in silence on 1st day, rest with hearing slow music on 2nd day and rest with hearing fast music on 3rd day. During the post-exercise relaxation time PR, SBP and DBP were measured immediately and after every 1 min. until the parameters returned to resting values. Data was statistically analysed using ANOVA test and 0.05 level of significance was set prior to the study.Results: The result showed that with slow music, recovery time of pulse rate (5.2 ± 2.1), systolic blood pressure (3.9 ± 1.1) and diastolic blood pressure (3.2 ± 1.7) were significantly faster as compared to both no music and fast music.Conclusion: The study concluded that music hastens post-exercise recovery and slow music has greater relaxation effect than fast or no music.

    ARM processors are receiving more attention as per IoT customized devices are concerned. A novel framework design tool for Linux kernel customization on ARM architecture has been illustrated. The tool is best suit from ARM based platformss like Raspberry pi, Beagle Bone, Intel Edison etc. The proposed techniques uses different tool chains for the kernel customization. The paper represents an integral framework that integrates all the cross compiling tools and simplifies the overall process. The framework has been used for the development of a customized kernel for Raspberry Pi on Ubuntu 14.04 host computer. The custom kernel has been ported in to Raspberry Pi and the performance evaluation has been done. Furthermore, the analysis aims to help users choose and configure their tracers based on their specific requirements to reduce their overhead and get the most of out of them. The testing of customized OS with raspberry Pi device in the field of agriculture. The smart node/mote is designed based on it to deploy in the agriculture field to test its feasibility. The group of nodes data is gathered using ThingSpeak cloud server. The gathered sensory data is analyzed and forecast on farmer’s mobile phone in the form of APP or handheld device for farmer

In a large cluster, thousands of servers both host directly attached storage and execute user application tasks. By distributing storage and computation across many servers, the resource can grow with demand while remaining economical at every size. We describe the architecture of HDFS and report on experience using HDFS to manage 25 petabytes of enterprise data at Yahoo.

    Synthesis and antibacterial activity of benzo[4,5]isothiazolo[2,3-a]pyrazine-6,6-dioxide derivatives

    Using a routine procedure, a number of derivatives of the benzo[4,5]isothiazolo[2,3-a]pyrazine-6,6-dioxide ring system have been synthesized from readily available starting materials. A series of chalcones were synthesized, which were subsequently reacted with chlorosulfonic acid to generate chalcone sulfonyl chlorides. The chalcone sulfonyl chlorides were then treated with bromine to generate dibromo chalcone sulfonyl chlorides. These were subsequently reacted with 1,2-diaminopropane and 2-methyl-1,2-diaminopropane in boiling ethanol resulting in compounds 2–10 and 11–19 respectively, in 12–80% yields. The products were characterized by spectral analysis and the definitive structure of compound 11 was determined by X-ray crystallography. The synthesized compounds were screened for potential antibacterial properties against Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris and Staphylococcus aureus
