Prefabricated House: Defining Architectural Quality and Identity Through the Innovation of Prefab Tectonics
This dissertation is for design of mid‐income people house that they can afford
“Jense” Korean rental system. Therefore, I focused on high quality design, general size for
a family, and regular budget. This is because failure reason of prefab architecture in
Korea came from low cost and quality. Moreover, to figure out the value of identity, I
would like to begin research with customization through the eyes of the owner. I am
going to research and test clients needs, both negative and positive, within prefab
system. In present day case of prefab houses, it is hard to have customization due
to government regulations and affordability needs; therefore I have to figure
out architecturally good quality and merits to prove that possibility of customization is a
benefit to society, changing the definition of prefab house.
Additionally, the existing perception for prefabrication house is negative. My
proposal is researching not only economics, but also high quality design, including
sustainability and adaptability in order to build prefab houses for the general
population, not only for affordable housing. To figure out this issue, my research’s goal
is to have good architectural design by implementing mass‐customization options for
a variety of applications.
This project applied in Busan where Second city in Korea. The structure is a
creative system by using two materials that are concrete and wood. Furthermore, I
research two directions of systems for Prefab Architecture. There are Precast Concrete
Culvert and Cross Nailed Timber (CNT)
Plug-in, Trainable Gate for Streamlining Arbitrary Neural Networks
Architecture optimization, which is a technique for finding an efficient
neural network that meets certain requirements, generally reduces to a set of
multiple-choice selection problems among alternative sub-structures or
parameters. The discrete nature of the selection problem, however, makes this
optimization difficult. To tackle this problem we introduce a novel concept of
a trainable gate function. The trainable gate function, which confers a
differentiable property to discretevalued variables, allows us to directly
optimize loss functions that include non-differentiable discrete values such as
0-1 selection. The proposed trainable gate can be applied to pruning. Pruning
can be carried out simply by appending the proposed trainable gate functions to
each intermediate output tensor followed by fine-tuning the overall model,
using any gradient-based training methods. So the proposed method can jointly
optimize the selection of the pruned channels while fine-tuning the weights of
the pruned model at the same time. Our experimental results demonstrate that
the proposed method efficiently optimizes arbitrary neural networks in various
tasks such as image classification, style transfer, optical flow estimation,
and neural machine translation.Comment: Accepted to AAAI 2020 (Poster
Cancer Statistics in Korea: Incidence, Mortality, Survival, and Prevalence in 2008
PURPOSE: This paper overviews the nationwide cancer statistics including incidence, mortality, survival and prevalence, and their trends in Korea based on the year 2008 cancer incidence data.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Incidence data from 1993 to 2008 were obtained from the Korea National Cancer Incidence Database, and the vital status was followed through December 31, 2009. Mortality data from 1983 to 2008 were obtained from the Korea National Statistics Office. Crude rates and age-standardized rates for incidence, mortality, prevalence and relative survival were calculated.
RESULTS: There were 178,816 cancer cases and 68,912 cancer deaths observed during year 2008 and 724,663 10-year cancer prevalent cases as of January 1, 2009 in Korea. The incidence rate for all cancer combined showed an annual increase of 3.1% from 1999 to 2008.
CONCLUSION: With significantly increasing cancer incidence, Korea faces a large cancer burden and efficient cancer control programs are essential.ope
Ginseng Purified Dry Extract, BST204, Improved Cancer Chemotherapy-Related Fatigue and Toxicity in Mice
Cancer related fatigue (CRF) is one of the most common side effects of cancer and its treatments. A large proportion of cancer patients experience cancer-related physical and central fatigue so new strategies are needed for treatment and improved survival of these patients. BST204 was prepared by incubating crude ginseng extract with ginsenoside-β-glucosidase. The purpose of the present study was to examine the effects of BST204, mixture of ginsenosides on 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-induced CRF, the glycogen synthesis, and biochemical parameters in mice. The mice were randomly divided into the following groups: the naïve normal (normal), the HT-29 cell inoculated (xenograft), xenograft and 5-FU treated (control), xenograft + 5-FU + BST204-treated (100 and 200 mg/kg) (BST204), and xenograft + 5-FU + modafinil (13 mg/kg) treated group (modafinil). Running wheel activity and forced swimming test were used for evaluation of CRF. Muscle glycogen, serum inflammatory cytokines, aspartic aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), creatinine (CRE), white blood cell (WBC), neutrophil (NEUT), red blood cell (RBC), and hemoglobin (HGB) were measured. Treatment with BST204 significantly increased the running wheel activity and forced swimming time compared to the control group. Consistent with the behavioral data, BST204 markedly increased muscle glycogen activity and concentrations of WBC, NEUT, RBC, and HGB. Also, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), AST, ALT, and CRE levels in the serum were significantly reduced in the BST204-treated group compared to the control group. This result suggests that BST204 may improve chemotherapy-related fatigue and adverse toxic side effects
Prediction of Cancer Incidence and Mortality in Korea, 2011
PURPOSE: To estimate the current cancer burden in Korea, cancer incidence and mortality were projected for the year 2011.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The cancer incidence data from 1999-2008 were obtained from the Korea National Cancer Incidence Database, and the cancer mortality data from 1993-2009 were obtained from the Korea National Statistics Office. Cancer incident cases and rates in 2011 were projected from fitting a linear regression model on observed age-specific cancer incidence rates against observed years, then multiplying the projected age-specific rates by the age-specific population. For cancer mortality, a similar procedure was applied for projection except that a Joinpoint regression model was used to determine at which year the linear trend significantly changed.
RESULTS: A total of 216,809 new cancer cases and 71,036 cancer deaths are projected to occur in Korea in 2011. For all sites combined, the crude incidence rates are projected to be 437.9 and 420.5 and the age-standardized incidence rates are projected to be 336.5 and 279.7 per 100,000 for men and women, respectively.
CONCLUSION: Cancer has become an important public health concern in Korea, and as Korea becomes an aged society, the cancer burden will continue to increase.ope
