False Elevation of Volume Determined by Bladder Scanner Secondary to Bowel Obstruction
Bladder scanners allow for quick determination of bladder volumes (BV) with minimal training. BV measured by a machine is generally accurate; however, circumstances exist in which falsely elevated BVs are reported. This case details a patient with a significant small bowel obstruction (SBO) due to superior mesenteric artery syndrome causing a falsely elevated BV. We believe this is the first case report of a SBO causing an elevated BV by bladder scanner. Emergency physicians should be aware of the pitfalls of using bladder scanners, and use their point-of-care ultrasound skills when possible to expand their differential

A theoretical study of non-adiabatic surface effects for a model in the NTF cryogenic wind tunnel
A theoretical analysis was made of the severity and effect of nonadiabatic surface conditions for a model in the NTF cryogenic wind tunnel. The nonadiabatic condition arises from heaters that are used to maintain a constant thermal environment for instrumentation internal to the model. The analysis was made for several axi-symmetric representations of a fuselage cavity, using a finite element heat conduction code. Potential flow and boundary layer codes were used to calculate the convection condition for the exterior surface of the model. The results of the steady state analysis show that it is possible to maintain the surface temperature very near the adiabatic value, with the judicious use of insulating material. Even for the most severe nonadiabatic condition studied, the effects on skin friction drag and displacement thickness were only marginally significant. The thermal analysis also provided an estimate of the power required to maintain a specified cavity temperature
Rapidity Spectra Analysis in Terms of Non Extensive Statistic Approach
We provide description of rapidity spectra of particles produced in p-anti-p
collisions using anomalous diffusion approach to account for their
non-equilibrium character. In particular, we exhibit connection between
multiproduction processes and anomalous diffusion described through the
nonlinear Focker-Planck equation with nonlinearity given by the nonextensivity
parameter q describing the underlying Tsallis q-statistics and demonstrate how
it leads to the Feynman scaling violation in these collisions. The q parameter
obtained this way turns out to be closely connected to parameter 1/k converting
the original poissonian multiplicity distribution to its observed Negative
Binomial form. The inelasticity of reaction has been also calculated and found
to slightly decrease with the increasing energy of reaction.
