Flabase: towards the creation of a flamenco music knowledge base

    Get PDF
Online information about flamenco music is scattered overdifferent sites and knowledge bases. Unfortunately, thereis no common repository that indexes all these data. Inthis work, information related to flamenco music is gath-ered from general knowledge bases (e.g., Wikipedia, DB-pedia), music encyclopedias (e.g., MusicBrainz), and spe-cialized flamenco websites, and is then integrated into anew knowledge base called FlaBase. As resources fromdifferent data sources do not share common identifiers, aprocess of pair-wise entity resolution has been performed.FlaBase contains information about 1,174 artists, 76pa-los(flamenco genres), 2,913 albums, 14,078 tracks, and771 Andalusian locations. It is freely available in RDF andJSON formats. In addition, a method for entity recognitionand disambiguation for FlaBase has been created. The sys-tem can recognize and disambiguate FlaBase entity refer-ences in Spanish texts with an f-measure value of 0.77. Weapplied it to biographical texts present in Flabase. By usingthe extracted information, the knowledge base is populatedwith relevant information and a semantic graph is createdconnecting the entities of FlaBase. Artists relevance is thencomputed over the graph and evaluated according to a fla-menco expert criteria. Accuracy of results shows a highdegree of quality and completeness of the knowledge base

Shift invariant wavelet processing of ultrasonic traces

Ponencia presentada en el XIX Congreso Internacional de Acústica (ICA2007), Madrid, 2-7 Sep 2007.-- PACS: 43.60.Hj.Wavelet processing has become a popular and well-established technique that offers good results and great flexibility for noise reduction. The basic wavelet de-noising scheme consists of a thresholding of the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) coefficients. Nevertheless, some improvements over this basic non-linear scheme can be obtained by the use of Undecimated Wavelet Transforms (UWT), also known as redundant, shift-invariant or stationary wavelet transforms, because they provide redundant and translation invariant representations. The introduction of redundancy produces less efficient signal representations but it can be useful in de-noising. Ultrasonic traces are frequently contaminated with structural or grain noise, which can not be removed by classical time averaging or band-pass filtering. An analysis of wavelet de-noising of some individual traces is presented. In addition, a significant number of synthetic ultrasonic signals are also processed for a statistical study and comparison of UWT and DWT de-noising in terms of the signal-to-noise ratio of the resulting traces. This work has been supported by the Spanish MEC, R&D Project CICYT Ref. La metáfora del viaje en Un viaje de novios de Emilia Pardo Bazán

Within the vast corpus of the nineteenth century Spanish narrative, Emilia Pardo Bazán’s Un viaje de novio, deserve a different consideration due to a particular style adopted by the author and the consideration of travel as an allegory of life. The author departs, hence fore, from the way how travel was understood in the nineteenth century when writers based their travel writings or novels on the scientific and educational aspects. Pardo Bazan explores the transcendental aspect of travel fact and this paper studies the different techniques used by the writer to develop the metaphor of travel considering the geographical movement as an internal trip. The subjective and progressive transformation of the main protagonist, according to the itinerary of the trip, is studied as that internal journey

In this study the psychopathology symptoms, the quality of life and the selfesteem of two samples of patient mental chronic are compared, some housed in protected lodgings and others while waiting for making it. It is also described the epidemic profile of the patients. This type of lodgings is presented for some decades like the alternative to the traditional psychiatric hospitals that worked in the practice as residential resources. Their utility has been considered from different points of view, at clinical, assistance, functional and economic level. Contrary to other discoveries, in our study a better quality of the patients' life is not appreciated that live in this lodgings in front of those that don't make it. Neither they are better psychopathologically neither they have bigger self-esteem. Methodological modifications are suggested in the design to control certain variables that can influence in the results

Clinical guidelines for late-onset Pompe disease

The development of a recombinant human alpha-glucosidase enzymatic replacement therapy has become the first specific treatment for this illness. The aim of this guide is to serve as reference for the management of the late-onset Pompe disease, the type of Pompe disease that develops after one year of age. In the guide a group of Spanish experts make specific recommendations about diagnosis, follow-up and treatment of this illness. With regard to diagnosis, the dried blood spots method is essential as the first step for the diagnosis of Pompe disease. The confirmation of the diagnosis of Pompe disease must be made by means of an study of enzymatic activity in isolated lymphocytes or a mutation analysis of the alpha-glucosidase gene. With regard to treatment with enzymatic replacement therapy, the experts say that is effective improving or stabilizating the motor function and the respiratory function and it must be introduced when the first symptoms attributable to Pompe disease appea
