Laurence Housman's "The Moon-Flower" and Victorian mystic imagination

    Get PDF
The paper explores the theme of mysticism in Laurence Housman’s fairy tale “The Moon-Flower” (1895). It presents the main assumptions of a Victorian inner journey toward a mystical union and analyses symbols which construct the inner landscape which undergoes a mystic transformation. The author attempts to show the metamorphosis of the fairy tale’s main characters and identify its roots in both fairy tale and religious traditions. It is argued that Victorian fairy tales reflect a credible quintessence of the universe. The retold tales of an archetypical quest full of powerful symbols uncover the sublime world hidden under the dull reality. Hence, “The Moon-Flower” is believed to tell the story of inner transformation and open the doors to the myriad stories which were told before and create countless possibilities of interpretation

This paper is reports several Radiological and Oncological Information Systems integrated by a very efficient medical network system. The system covers the entire image flowpath in the Diagnostic Radiology Department (i.e. image acquisition, processing, archiving, long term storage) and allows for transmitting medical images through Municipal Area Network. The system has been working reliably since November 1999. About 22000 CT examinations have been archived using our system. Over 300 special examinations for radiotherapy planning have been sent to the Lublin Oncology Centre

Experimental study of particle trajectories below deep-water surface gravity wave groups

Due to the interplay between the forward Stokes drift and the backward wave-induced Eulerian return flow, Lagrangian particles underneath surface gravity wave groups can follow different trajectories depending on their initial depth below the surface. The motion of particles near the free surface is dominated by the waves and their Stokes drift, whereas particles at large depths follow horseshoe-shaped trajectories dominated by the Eulerian return flow. For unidirectional wave groups, a small net displacement in the direction of travel of the group results near the surface, and is accompanied by a net particle displacement in the opposite direction at depth. For deep-water waves, we study these trajectories experimentally by means of Particle Tracking Velocimetry in a two-dimensional flume. In doing so, we provide visual illustration of Lagrangian trajectories under groups, including the contributions of both the Stokes drift and the Eulerian return flow to both the horizontal and the vertical Lagrangian displacements. We compare our experimental results to leading-order solutions of the irrotational water wave equations, finding good agreement

Biogas treatment plants in the broader way use

The biogas treatment was considered as unnecessary and expensive stage in the production of biogas. This view has changed under the influence of rapid technological progress in this area, which meant that treatment technologies have become cheaper and more accessible that a few years earlier. Nowadays , biogas purification is not regarded as the expense, but profit for the biogas plants. The purified biogas can be used in the "green" power stations instead of conventional power stations, which are not environmental friendly

Границы понятия «Государство всеобщего благосостояния» в построении политической идентичности на страницах британской прессы

Der Band enthält die Abstracts ausschließlich in englischer Sprache.Positioned within the discourse-historical approach (DHA) to discourse analysis, this paper examines the function of discursive constructions of the welfare state as a concept in asserting political identities in a corpus of British newspaper articles. It finds the boundaries of the concept are an important factor in the construction of such identities and proposes that delineation of concept boundaries be considered among the discursive strategies analysed in DHA.Le numéro contient uniquement les résumés en anglais.Том содержит аннотаций на английском языке

Der Band enthält die Abstracts ausschließlich in englischer Sprache. This paper, drawing on insights from discourse-historical approach to discourse analysis and applying Conceptual Metaphor theory, examines selected BUILDING metaphors of the welfare state in a corpus of four British newspapers. The paper compares the use of these metaphors in the four newspapers and considers their argumentative function, finding that while the metaphors largely overlap between the newspapers, their argumentative functions are more though not completely distinct, legitimising government reforms of the welfare state in the conservative newspapers, with the left-leaning newspapers using them to support and oppose these reforms.Le numéro contient uniquement les résumés en anglais.Том не содержит аннотаций на английском языке
