Classical behaviour of Q-balls in the Wick-Cutkosky model

In this paper, we continue discussing Q-balls in the Wick--Cutkosky model. Despite Q-balls in this model are composed of two scalar fields, they turn out to be very useful and illustrative for examining various important properties of Q-balls. In particular, in the present paper we study in detail (analytically and numerically) the problem of classical stability of Q-balls, including the nonlinear evolution of classically unstable Q-balls, as well as the behaviour of Q-balls in external fields in the non-relativistic limit.Comment: 21 pages, 12 figures, LaTeX; v2: section 3.3 slightly enlarged, typos corrected, minor changes in the tex

    LHCb trigger streams optimization

The LHCb experiment stores around 101110^{11} collision events per year. A typical physics analysis deals with a final sample of up to 10710^7 events. Event preselection algorithms (lines) are used for data reduction. Since the data are stored in a format that requires sequential access, the lines are grouped into several output file streams, in order to increase the efficiency of user analysis jobs that read these data. The scheme efficiency heavily depends on the stream composition. By putting similar lines together and balancing the stream sizes it is possible to reduce the overhead. We present a method for finding an optimal stream composition. The method is applied to a part of the LHCb data (Turbo stream) on the stage where it is prepared for user physics analysis. This results in an expected improvement of 15% in the speed of user analysis jobs, and will be applied on data to be recorded in 2017.Comment: Submitted to CHEP-2016 proceeding

Memristive Systems Based on Two-Dimensional Materials

The unique electronic and optical properties of newly discovered 2D crystals such as graphene, graphene oxide, molybdenum disulfide, and so on demonstrate the tremendous potential in creating ultrahigh-density nano- and bioelectronics for innovative image recognition systems, storage and processing of big data. A new type of memristors with a floating photogate based on biocompatible graphene and other 2D crystals with extremely low power consumption and footprint is considered. The photocatalytic oxidation of graphene is proposed as an effective method of creating synapse-like 2D memristive devices with photoresistive switching for nonvolatile electronic memory of ultrahigh density. Particular attention is paid to the new concept of the formation of self-assembled nanoscale memristive elements interfacing artificial electronic neural networks. 2D photomemristors with a floating photogate exhibit multiple states controlled in a wide range of electromagnetic radiation and can be used for neuromorphic computations, pattern recognition and image processing needed to create artificial intelligence

Effect of α-Hgl_2 epitaxial growth on the defect structure of CdTe:Ge substrates

    Get PDF
The aα-HgI_2/CdTe:Ce heterostructures have been studied by cathodoluminescence (CL) in the scanning electron microscope. The alpha-HgI2 expitaxial growth was shown to cause an enhancement of the CL intensity in a layer of the substrate extending up to about 500 mu m from the α-Hgl_2 /CdTe:Ge interface. CL spectra of the layer reveal the appearance of a band related to tellurium vacancies as well as the decrease of the emission attributed to defect complexes involving Ge. The data obtained indicate that Ge-impurity gettering and V-Te generation at the interface take place during α-Hgl_2 epitaxial growth

Effect of electric field on the photoluminescence of polymer-inorganic nanoparticles composites

We report on the effect of electric field on the photoluminescence, PL, from a composite consisting of a conjugated polymer mixed with zinc oxide nanoparticles. We have found that in the absence of electric field PL emission from the composite film has two maxima in the blue and green-yellow regions. Application of a voltage bias to planar gold electrodes suppresses the green-yellow emission and shifts the only PL emission maximum towards the blue region. Current-voltage characteristics of the polymer-nanoparticles composite exhibit the non-linear behavior typical of non-homogeneous polymer-inorganic structures. Generation of excited states in the composite structure implies the presence of several radiative recombination mechanisms including formation of polymer-nanoparticle complexes including exciplex states and charge transfer between the polymer and nanoparticle that can be controlled by an electric field.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures. accepted for publication in Solid State Communication
