Realization of Woodpile Structure Using Optical Interference Holography

We report the use of a (4+1)-beam optical interference holography technique to fabricate woodpile structures in photo-resists. The configuration consists of 4 linear polarized side beams arranged symmetrically around a circular polarized central beam with all the beams from the same half space, making it easily accessible experimentally. The fabricated woodpile structures are in good agreement with model simulations. Furthermore, woodpiles with the diamond symmetry are also obtained by exploiting the deformations of the photo-resists. Directional bandgaps in the visible range are also observed for the samples with and without the correct stacking of the woodpile structures.Comment: 9 pages and three figure

Effectiveness of myopia control interventions: a systematic review of 12 randomized control trials published between 2019 and 2021

    Get PDF
Purpose: This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of interventions to control myopia progression. In this systematic review, the primary outcomes were mean differences (MD) between treatment and control groups in myopia progression (D) and axial length (AL) elongation (mm). Results: The following interventions were found to be effective (p < 0.001): highly aspherical lenslets (HAL, 0.80 D, 95% CI, 0.77-0.83; -0.35 mm, 95% CI -0.36 to -0.34), MiSight contact lenses (0.66 D, 95% CI, 0.63-0.69; -0.28 mm, 95% CI -0.29 to -0.27), low dose atropine 0.05% (0.54 D, 95% CI, 0.38-0.70; -0.21 mm, 95% CI-0.28 to -0.14), Biofinity +2.50 D (0.45 D, 95% CI, 0.29, 0.61; -0.24 mm, 95% CI -0.33 to -0.15), defocus incorporated multiple segments [DIMS] (0.44 D, 95% CI, 0.42-0.46; -0.34 mm, 95% CI -0.35 to -0.33) and ortho-k lenses (-0.24 mm, 95% CI -0.33 to -01.5). Conclusion: Low-dose atropine 0.01% was not effective in reducing AL progression in two studies. Treatment efficacy with low-dose atropine of 0.05% showed good efficacy. Spectacles (HAL and DIMS) and contact lenses (MiSight and Biofinity) may confer a comparable treatment benefit compared to atropine, to slow myopia progression.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Numerical Simulation of Projectile Oblique Impact on Microspacecraft Structure

    Get PDF
In the present study, the microspacecraft bulkhead was reduced to the double honeycomb panel, and the projectile oblique hypervelocity impact on the double honeycomb panel was simulated. The distribution of the debris cloud and the damage of a honeycomb sandwich panel were investigated when the incident angles were set to be 60°, 45°, and 30°. The results showed that as incident angle decreased, the distribution of debris cloud was increased gradually, while the maximum perforation size of the rear face sheet was firstly increased with the decrease of the incident angle and then decreased. On the other hand, the damage area and the damage degree of the front face sheet of the second honeycomb panel layer were increased with the decrease of the incident angle. Finally, the critical angle of front and rear face sheets of the honeycomb sandwich panel was obtained under oblique hypervelocity impact

“EN-GAWA SERVICE” Concept for Long-Term Care Service Institution, Tainan YMCA

    Get PDF
In the face of the changes in the structure of the elderly and low birth rate, the continuous expansion of social security expenses, and the constant update of the burden ratio of long-term care services, new service models are needed in the future to meet the demands of extended life in the community. If the long-term care service institution implements a communication space called “EN-GAWA in Japanese” concept that connects with the community regularly and provides various informal care services to promote cross-generational communication in the community, community residents can have more networks and support. Effect of strain rate on indentation behaviour of kenaf-based fibre metal laminates

    Get PDF
Kenaf natural fibre has become the subject of interest for a wide range of engineering sectors due to its biodegradable and robust mechanical properties [1, 2]. Akil et. al. [3] presented a review on kenaf fibre reinforced composites and mentioned that the application of kenaf fibre-reinforced composite as an alternative composite material is highly plausible with both lightweight and low cost as its main advantages. This situation has lead researchers to investigate the potential offered by kenaf fibre reinforced composites [4-6]. However, research on kenaf-based fibre metal laminates (FMLs) is still not clear and thus demands extensive research investigation. In this study, the effect of strain rate on the indentation behaviour of the FMLs subjected to static indentation loading was investigated. The fibre metal laminates were made of chopped strand mat kenaf fibre with epoxy resin composite and 0.6 mm thickness of 1100-O aluminium alloy sheet by using vacuum infusion process (VIP) and hydraulic pressing technique. Several samples of 2/1 lay-up and 3/2 lay-up of FMLs were prepared for indentation tests. The experiments were conducted by using a universal testing machine with strain rate of 1 mm/min, 10 mm/min and 100 mm/min

Chiral microstructures (spirals) fabrication by holographic lithography

We present an optical interference model to create chiral microstructures (spirals) and its realization in photoresist using holographic lithography. The model is based on the interference of six equally-spaced circumpolar linear polarized side beams and a circular polarized central beam. The pitch and separation of the spirals can be varied by changing the angle between the side beams and the central beam. The realization of the model is carried out using the 325 nm line of a He-Cd laser and spirals of sub-micron size are fabricated in photoresist.Comment: 6 page
