Distribution of Complex and Core Lipids within New Hyperthermophilic Members of the Archaea Domain
Core and complex lipids of several new hyperthermophilic archaeal isolates were analyzed. The organisms belong to the Sulfolobales,Archaeoglobus, Pyrobaculum, and Methanococcus. A detailed structural investigation of complex lipids of Pyrobaculum species is reported. The different lipid structures are of help for
a rapid and simple phylogenetic classification of the new isolates. They are in agreement with the classification based on other features
Design of an Automated Ultrasonic Scanning System for In-Situ Composite Cure Monitoring and Defect Detection
The preliminary design and development of an automated ultrasonic scanning system for in-situ composite cure monitoring and defect detection in the high temperature environment of an oven was completed. This preliminary design is a stepping stone to deployment in the high temperature and high pressure environment of an autoclave, the primary cure method of aerospace grade thermoset composites. Cure monitoring with real-time defect detection during the process could determine when defects form and how they move. In addition, real-time defect detection during cure could assist validating physics-based process models for predicting defects at all stages of the cure cycle. A physics-based process model for predicting porosity and fiber waviness originating during cure is currently under development by the NASA Advanced Composites Project (ACP). For the design, an ultrasonic contact scanner is enclosed in an insulating box that is placed inside an oven during cure. Throughout the cure cycle, the box is nitrogen-cooled to approximately room temperature to maintain a standard operating environment for the scanner. The composite part is mounted on the outside of the box in a vacuum bag on the build/tool plate. The build plate is attached to the bottom surface of the box. The scanner inspects the composite panel through the build plate, tracking the movement of defects introduced during layup and searching for new defects that may form during cure. The focus of this paper is the evaluation and selection of the build plate material and thickness. The selection was based on the required operating temperature of the scanner, the cure temperature of the composite material, thermal conductivity models of the candidate build plates, and a series of ultrasonic attenuation tests. This analysis led to the determination that a 63.5 mm thick build plate of borosilicate glass would be utilized for the system. The borosilicate glass plate was selected as the build plate material due to the low ultrasonic attenuation it demonstrated, its ability to efficiently insulate the scanner while supporting an elevated temperature on the part side of the plate, and the availability of a 63.5 mm thick plate without the need for lamination
Introduction of postpartum and post abortion family planning into three hospitals in South Sudan
Introduction: Postpartum/post abortion family planning is a service provided for women who have given birth or had a spontaneous abortion. Due to low uptake of contraception in South Sudan, increasing contraceptive use is important to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. Objective: To introduce postpartum/post abortion family planning to women who have delivered or undergone spontaneous abortion at Juba Teaching Hospital, Tambura Hospital, and Yei Hospital.Method: This was a project initiated by Lund University in South Sudan as a part of a capacity building international training programme in sexual and reproductive health and rights. The aim was to introduce the use of postpartum/post abortion family planning and train health care providers. Results: From the three hospitals, 1373 women who had delivered were counselled and 404 accepted postpartum contraceptives. Of 285 women who had had a spontaneous abortion and were counselled, 22 accepted contraceptives. During the project, 15 health providers were trained to promote and champion the use of postpartum and post abortion family planning provision. Conclusion: This study shows that training of health care staff to advocate and promote postpartum/post abortion contraception is effective and can contribute to family planning services.

Total Synthesis of 1”- and 2”-Hydroxycannabidiol Metabolites
Herein we report a new practical and efficient multistep syntheses of 1”- and 2”-hydroxycannabidiol metabolites. Both products and intermediates were fully characterized, and the target metabolites were produced in good overall yields
Superconducting Superstructure for the TESLA Collider
We discuss the new layout of a cavity chain (superstructure) allowing, we
hope, significant cost reduction of the RF system of both linacs of the TESLA
linear collider. The proposed scheme increases the fill factor and thus makes
an effective gradient of an accelerator higher. We present mainly computations
we have performed up to now and which encouraged us to order the copper model
of the scheme, still keeping in mind that experiments with a beam will be
necessary to prove if the proposed solution can be used for the acceleration.Comment: 11 page
Adhesive Joining of Composite Laminates Using Epoxy Resins with Stoichiometric Offset
Polymer matrix composites are used in high performance structures because of their excellent specific strength, toughness and stiffness along the fiber. To realize the full performance advantages of composites, complex, built-up structures must be assembled with adhesive, but uncertainty in bond strength requires manufacturers to install bolts or other crack arrest features to ensure safety in critical applications. The inherent uncertainty in adhesive bonds stems from the material discontinuity at the composite-to-adhesive interfaces, which are susceptible to contamination. In contrast, composites made by co-curing, although limited in size and complexity, result in predictable structures that may be certifiable for commercial aviation with reduced dependence on redundant load paths.1 The pro-posed technology uses a stoichiometric offset of the hardener-to-epoxy ratio on the faying surfaces of laminates. Assembly of the components in a subsequent secondary-co-cure process results in a joint with no material discontinuities
An empirical evaluation of prediction by partial matching in assembly assistance systems
Industrial assistive systems result from a multidisciplinary effort that integrates IoT (and Industrial IoT), Cognetics, and Artificial Intelligence. This paper evaluates the Prediction by Partial Matching algorithm as a component of an assembly assistance system that supports factory workers, by providing choices for the next manufacturing step. The evaluation of the proposed method was performed on datasets collected within an experiment involving trainees and experienced workers. The goal is to find out which method best suits the datasets in order to be integrated afterwards into our context-aware assistance system. The obtained results show that the Prediction by Partial Matching method presents a significant improvement with respect to the existing Markov predictors
