The relevance of this work is that fires over time cover a large area and cause significant economic damage to rural settlements remote from a significant distance from the units of the Federal Emergency Service of Russia. In this regard, the manning of volunteer firefighters VDPO is the solution to this problem. The purpose of this work is to increase the efficiency of firefighting by VDPO units
DEVELOPMENT OF A FIELD EXPERIMENT OF CO 2 STORAGE IN COAL SEAMS IN THE UPPER SILESIAN BASIN OF POLAND (RECOPOL)
ABSTRACT In 2001 the RECOPOL project, which aims at the development of the first European field demonstration of CO 2 sequestration in subsurface coal seams, started. The required research, design and operation of the pilot field test is executed by an international consortium of research institutes, universities and industrial partners. A site was selected in the Silesian Basin in Poland where two CBM-wells are present at short distance from each other. One injection well will be drilled in between; drilling is scheduled in spring 2003. Injection is planned to start in the summer of 2003 and will continue until the end of 2004. Reservoir modelling shows that the distance between the injection well and the updip production well should be less than 200 m to increase the chance of breakthrough of CO 2 within the test period. Breakthrough is important for a thorough understanding of the process. After and during the injection period monitoring will be performed by direct measurements of CO 2 -concentration and by time lapse seismic monitoring
Increased mitochondrial calcium levels associated with neuronal death in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease
Mitochondria contribute to shape intraneuronal Ca2+ signals. Excessive Ca2+ taken up by mitochondria could lead to cell death. Amyloid beta (A beta) causes cytosolic Ca2+ overload, but the effects of A beta on mitochondrial Ca2+ levels in Alzheimer's disease (AD) remain unclear. Using a ratiometric Ca2+ indicator targeted to neuronal mitochondria and intravital multiphoton microscopy, we find increased mitochondrial Ca2+ levels associated with plaque deposition and neuronal death in a transgenic mouse model of cerebral beta -amyloidosis. Naturally secreted soluble A beta applied onto the healthy brain increases Ca2+ concentration in mitochondria, which is prevented by blockage of the mitochondrial calcium uniporter. RNA-sequencing from post-mortem AD human brains shows downregulation in the expression of mitochondrial influx Ca2+ transporter genes, but upregulation in the genes related to mitochondrial Ca2+ efflux pathways, suggesting a counteracting effect to avoid Ca2+ overload. We propose lowering neuronal mitochondrial Ca2+ by inhibiting the mitochondrial Ca2+ uniporter as a novel potential therapeutic target against AD. Calvo-Rodriguez et al. show elevated calcium levels in neuronal mitochondria in a mouse model of cerebral beta -amyloidosis after plaque deposition, which precede rare neuron death events in this model. The mechanism involves toxic extracellular A beta oligomers and the mitochondrial calcium uniporter
A 1-Year Prospective French Nationwide Study of Emergency Hospital Admissions in Children and Adults with Primary Immunodeficiency.
PURPOSE: Patients with primary immunodeficiency (PID) are at risk of serious complications. However, data on the incidence and causes of emergency hospital admissions are scarce. The primary objective of the present study was to describe emergency hospital admissions among patients with PID, with a view to identifying "at-risk" patient profiles.
METHODS: We performed a prospective observational 12-month multicenter study in France via the CEREDIH network of regional PID reference centers from November 2010 to October 2011. All patients with PIDs requiring emergency hospital admission were included.
RESULTS: A total of 200 admissions concerned 137 patients (73 adults and 64 children, 53% of whom had antibody deficiencies). Thirty admissions were reported for 16 hematopoietic stem cell transplantation recipients. When considering the 170 admissions of non-transplant patients, 149 (85%) were related to acute infections (respiratory tract infections and gastrointestinal tract infections in 72 (36%) and 34 (17%) of cases, respectively). Seventy-seven percent of the admissions occurred during winter or spring (December to May). The in-hospital mortality rate was 8.8% (12 patients); death was related to a severe infection in 11 cases (8%) and Epstein-Barr virus-induced lymphoma in 1 case. Patients with a central venous catheter (n = 19, 13.9%) were significantly more hospitalized for an infection (94.7%) than for a non-infectious reason (5.3%) (p = 0.04).
CONCLUSION: Our data showed that the annual incidence of emergency hospital admission among patients with PID is 3.4%. The leading cause of emergency hospital admission was an acute infection, and having a central venous catheter was associated with a significantly greater risk of admission for an infectious episode
