How to remember a place to forget? The semiotic design of deep geological nuclear repositories, from long-term communication to memory transmission

Drawing on the field of nuclear semiotics, this article critically discusses the classic problem of marking the location of a deep geological repository to communicate – in the distant future – its presence and potential threats to intruders. The article is divided into two parts. The first part reviews some site-marking solutions that have been proposed in the nearly 40 years of nuclear semiotics’ existence. These solutions are analyzed through the lens of semiotics of space and memory, highlighting different ideas about the purposes of site-marking, ranging from the idea of communicating a warning message to that of transmitting a memory. The second part addresses these strategies of memory transmission by examining some recent “speculative experiments” that use art to convey information about nuclear repositories to future generations. This part of the article examines artistic proposals submitted to a competition organized by ANDRA (the French Agency for Nuclear Waste)

We examine the meaning of this ritual that was first promoted on the web and then adopted by the social actors themselves in the semi-private space of windows and balconies. We will investigate the relationships and the meaning of this practice both on the web and in the social space

Changer les attitudes contre la violence de genre: culture, éducation et apprentissage mutuels

Cet article interroge la notion de genre et ses acceptions multiples. Nous allons d’abord nous interroger sur cette notion pour comprendre les dynamiques de sa construction et de son évolution. Ensuite nous allons la lier avec le terme de «violence» et de ses différentes déclinaisons qui seront expliquées à travers l’élucidation des cas particuliers comme les centres antiviolence dans le Sud de l’Italie.This article examines the concept of gender and its multiple meanings. First we will ask what that concept for understanding the dynamics of its construction and its evolution. Then we will link it with the term "violence" and its different mean-ings that will be explained through the elucidation of special cases such as anti-violence centers in southern Italy

Le cas d’Arthur Bispo do Rosario ou l’ekphrasis impossible. Approche sémiotique de l’œuvre d’Art Brut brésilien

L’article veut interroger la figure rhétorique de l’ekphrasis. L’intérêt est de situer cette procédure du discours à l’intérieur d’une culture «autre» et de comprendre comment cette ré-appropriation a été construite et englobée. Nous allons parcourir les différentes définitions de ce concept pour comprendre comme elle appréhende le monde et comme elle se structure sur une mise en discours du perceptible. Nous prendrons un exemple d’un artiste schizophrène brésilien, Arthur Bispo do Rosario, qui s’est révélé un contre-exemple d’ekphrasis ou une vraie et propre anti-ekphrasis par rapport à une conception «classique» de cette figure rhétorique. Le cas de cet artiste, reconnu dans le Brésil entier, qui a consacré toute sa vie à l’invention d’une œuvre très variée (objets, «vitrines», sceptres et un manteau de la présentation) pose des problèmes d’interprétation et réclame une approche pluridisciplinaire (artistique, psychanalytique et anthropologique et sémiotique) pour être entièrement comprise
