The study determined the satisfaction of the technical assistance conducted by faculty extensionists from a higher learning institution in Nueva Ecija, Philippines, during the academic year 2021-2022. It employed a mixed-method convergent-parallel method of study. It sought to describe the timeliness, quality of work, professionalism, courtesy, and achievement of the objectives of the technical assistance. Furthermore, it expressed the overall satisfaction of the beneficiaries with the conduct of the technical assistance using a quantitative approach. Qualitatively, using open-ended questions, the researchers analyzed the participants' responses using theme-generation techniques and identified the usefulness and impact of the technical assistance rendered to the employees and organization. The results generally revealed that the participants were satisfied with the service they received. A significant difference was seen in the level of difficulty experienced. The technical assistance provided has been practical. These participants' responses served as the basis for designing the college's training and extension development plan

Interaction of water vapour at 298 K with Al-MCM-41 materials synthesised at room temperature

Abstract The interaction of water vapour with Al-MCM-41, prepared by direct synthesis at ambient temperature and pressure, using tetraethoxysilane, aluminium sulfate, hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide and ammonia, and its effect on the pore structure were studied in order to investigate the stability towards prolonged exposure to water vapour and the influence of the aluminium content. With this purpose two consecutive water adsorption isotherms were determined at 298 K on samples with Si/Al ratio between 15 and 100. The samples were characterised by X-ray diffraction and adsorption of nitrogen at 77 K and toluene at 298 K, prior to and after exposure to water vapour. Pore size distributions were calculated from nitrogen, toluene and water adsorption isotherms using, respectively, the NLDFT method, a recently developed hybrid MC-DBdB method and the DBdB macroscopic approximation. It was found that Al-MCM-41 samples are significantly stable and that the stability improves as the amount of aluminium increases. Upon prolonged exposure to water vapour, there is a small decrease in pore size (3-5%), pore volume (8-16%) and total surface area (3-7%). The structural changes are essentially a consequence of the surface hydroxylation that occurred and not a result of a partial collapse of the pore structure. Although the presence of some extraframework Al can contribute to the improvement of the stability by protecting the surface, it was concluded that tetracoordinated Al plays an important role. The stabilizing effect of the Al incorporated in the walls can result from a higher degree of condensation on the surface of the pore walls and from the mild acidity generated

New acrylic monolithic carbon molecular sieves for O2/N2 and CO2/CH4 separations

8 pages, 5 figures, 4 tables.-- Available online Dec 20, 2005.The modification of activated carbon fibres prepared from a commercial textile acrylic fibre into materials with monolithic shape using phenolic resin as binder was studied. The molecular sieving properties for the gas separations CO2/CH4 and O2/N2 were evaluated from the gas uptake volume and selectivity at 100 s contact time taken from the kinetic adsorption curves of the individual gases. The pseudo-first order rate constant was also determined by the application of the LDF model. The samples produced show high CO2 and O2 rates of adsorption, in the range 3–35 × 10−3 s−1, and in most cases null or very low adsorption of CH4 and N2 which make them very promising samples to use in PSA systems, or similar. Although the selectivity was very high, the adsorption capacity was low in certain cases. However, the gas uptake in two samples reached 23 cm3 g−1 for CO2 and 5 cm3 g−1 for O2, which can be considered very good. The materials were heat-treated using a microwave furnace, which is a novel and more economic method, when compared with conventional furnaces, to improve the molecular sieves properties. The authors are grateful to the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (Portugal), the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) and Scientific and Technological Cooperation Program GRICES/CSIC (2004/5_4.1.1) for financial support.Peer reviewe
