New achievements on C-C bond formation in water catalyzed by metal complexes
The C-C coupling is the best strategy to obtain new organic molecules and building blocks from economical and abundant small molecules. Traditionally these reactions are accomplished in organic solvents, which are often dried before use as water molecules can react quickly with both the catalyst or the intermediate of the reactions, blocking the catalytic cycle. Nevertheless, the efforts of the researchers are providing new synthetic procedures in water that can substitute some of those, previously developed, "dry reactions". In the last years, really useful processes to obtain C-C bonds in water were proposed. These reactions usually are catalysed with 4d-metals but also examples with metals of the first transition row were proposed. This review aims to summarize and order by types the C-C coupling catalytic reactions in water published during the last five years. The abundance of reactions and the significance of the published results shows that a long way is needed to achieve a good knowledge of catalytic C-C coupling reactions in water. Nevertheless, accomplish this objective can provide significant and valuable synthetic processes, more economical, cleaner, more selective, therefore friendlier and more respectful with nature. Quantum metrology at the limit with extremal Majorana constellations
Quantum metrology allows for a tremendous boost in the accuracy of measurement of diverse physical parameters. The estimation of a rotation constitutes a remarkable example of this quantum-enhanced precision. The recently introduced Kings of Quantumness are especially germane for this task when the rotation axis is unknown, as they have a sensitivity independent of that axis and they achieve a Heisenberg-limit scaling. Here, we report the experimental realization of these states by generating up to 21-dimensional orbital angular momentum states of single photons, and confirm their high metrological abilities
New Findings in Metal Complexes with Antiproliferative Activity Containing 1,3,5-Triaza-7-phosphaadamantane (PTA) and Derivative Ligands
This minireview summarizes some of the most significant
findings published in the last years on metal complexes
containing PTA and PTA derivatives ligands such as dmoPTA,
with antiproliferative activity [PTA = 1,3,5-triaza-7-phospha-
adamantane; dmoPTA = 3,7-dimethyl-1,3,7-triaza-5-phosphabicyclo[
3.3.1]nonane (dmoPTA)]. Comments on other biological
properties of the complexes are also included
Multiple and Precessing Collimated Outflows in the Planetary Nebula IC 4634
With its remarkable double-S shape, IC 4634 is an archetype of
point-symmetric planetary nebulae (PN). In this paper, we present a detailed
study of this PN using archival HST WFPC2 and ground-based narrow-band images
to investigate its morphology, and long-slit spectroscopic observations to
determine its kinematics and to derive its physical conditions and excitation.
The data reveal new structural components, including a distant string of knots
distributed along an arc-like feature 40"-60" from the center of the nebula, a
skin of enhanced [O III]/H-alpha ratio enveloping the inner shell and the
double-S feature, and a triple-shell structure. The spatio-kinematical study
also finds an equatorial component of the main nebula that is kinematically
independent from the bright inner S-shaped arc. We have investigated in detail
the bow shock-like features in IC 4634 and found that their morphological,
kinematical and emission properties are consistent with the interaction of a
collimated outflow with surrounding material. Indeed, the morphology and
kinematics of some of these features can be interpreted using a 3D numerical
simulation of a collimated outflow precessing at a moderate, time-dependent
velocity. Apparently, IC 4634 has experienced several episodes of
point-symmetric ejections oriented at different directions with the outer
S-shaped feature being related to an earlier point-symmetric ejection and the
outermost arc-like string of knots being the relic of an even much earlier
point-symmetric ejection. There is tantalizing evidence that the action of
these collimated outflows has also taken part in the shaping of the innermost
shell and inner S-shaped arc of IC 4634.Comment: 16 pages, 11 figures, accepted for publication in The Astrophysical
