The vascular bone marrow niche influences outcome in chronic myeloid leukemia via the E-selectin - SCL/TAL1-CD44 axis.
The endosteal bone marrow niche and vascular endothelial cells provide sanctuaries for leukemic cells. In murine chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) CD44 on leukemia cells and E-selectin on bone marrow endothelium are essential mediators for the engraftment of leukemic stem cells. We hypothesized that non-adhesion of CML-initiating cells to E-selectin on the bone marrow endothelium may lead to superior eradication of leukemic stem cells in CML after treatment with imatinib than imatinib alone. Indeed, here we show that treatment with the E-selectin inhibitor GMI-1271 in combination with imatinib prolongs survival of mice with CML via decreased contact time of leukemia cells with bone marrow endothelium. Non-adhesion of BCR-ABL1(+) cells leads to an increase of cell cycle progression and an increase of expression of the hematopoietic transcription factor and proto-oncogene Scl/Tal1 in leukemia-initiating cells. We implicate SCL/TAL1 as an indirect phosphorylation target of BCR-ABL1 and as a negative transcriptional regulator of CD44 expression. We show that increased SCL/TAL1 expression is associated with improved outcome in human CML. These data demonstrate the BCR-ABL1-specific, cell-intrinsic pathways leading to altered interactions with the vascular niche via the modulation of adhesion molecules - which could be exploited therapeutically in the future
The Holographic Model of Dark Energy and Thermodynamics of Non-Flat Accelerated Expanding Universe
Motivated by recent results on non-vanishing spatial curvature \cite{curve}
we employ the holographic model of dark energy to investigate the validity of
first and second laws of thermodynamics in non-flat (closed) universe enclosed
by apparent horizon and the event horizon measured from the sphere of
horizon named . We show that for the apparent horizon the first law is
roughly respected for different epochs while the second laws of thermodynamics
is respected while for as the system's IR cut-off first law is broken down
and second law is respected for special range of deceleration parameter. It is
also shown that at late-time universe is equal to and the
thermodynamic laws are hold, when the universe has non-vanishing curvature.
Defining the fluid temperature to be proportional to horizon temperature the
range for coefficient of proportionality is obtained provided that the
generalized second law of thermodynamics is hold.Comment: 12 pages, no figure, abstract and text extended, references added,

Genotypic selection of advanced potato clones by REML/BLUP.
<div><p>ABSTRACT Potato genotypes were evaluated in their performance, according to the genotype values for tuber yield traits. The experiments were carried out in Canoinhas and Pelotas, Brazil, in spring 2014. Eleven advanced clones and two commercial cultivars (Agata and Asterix) (check cultivars) were evaluated. A randomized complete block design with four replicates was used. Plots were harvested 110 days after planting, and evaluated for tuber yield components. The data were submitted to joint deviance analyzes using the REML/BLUP method. Clones F102-22-07 and F32-02-06 stood out positively for tuber yield. F102-22-07 showed high marketable tuber yield and average tuber weight, while clone F32-02-06 exhibited high marketable and total tuber yield. The superiority of these advanced clones in relation to the check cultivars, suggests their potential to be evaluated in other environments, aiming their release as new cultivars.</p></div
Interacting holographic dark energy model and generalized second law of thermodynamics in non-flat universe
In the present paper we consider the interacting holographic model of dark
energy to investigate the validity of the generalized second laws of
thermodynamics in non-flat (closed) universe enclosed by the event horizon
measured from the sphere of the horizon named . We show that for as the
system's IR cut-off the generalized second law is respected for the special
range of the deceleration parameter.Comment: 11 pages, no figure

Studying error resilience performance for a feedback channel based transform domain Wyner-Ziv video codec
Wyner-Ziv (WZ) video coding is an emerging video coding paradigm based on two major Information Theory results: the Slepian-Wolf and Wyner-Ziv theorems. One of the most interesting and used WZ video i coding architectures makes use of a feedback channel (FC) to perform c rate control at the decoder; in this context, the Slepian-Wolf coding t module is typically based on turbo coding with puncturing. Because WZ coding is not based on the prediction loop used in conventional video coding but rather on a statistical approach where a decoder estimation of the frame to be coded is 'corrected' by the encoder, it provides intrinsic error resilience capabilities. This paper intends to study the error resilience performance of a feedback channel based transform domain WZ codec using appropriate scenarios and conditions, notably in comparison with the best performing H. 264/AVC standard.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
