Faraday rotation in graphene
We study magneto--optical properties of monolayer graphene by means of
quantum field theory methods in the framework of the Dirac model. We reveal a
good agreement between the Dirac model and a recent experiment on giant Faraday
rotation in cyclotron resonance. We also predict other regimes when the effects
are well pronounced. The general dependence of the Faraday rotation and
absorption on various parameters of samples is revealed both for suspended and

Mental health patients' preferences regarding restrictive interventions: An integrative review
Introduction
The use of restrictive interventions is a violation of patients' rights that causes physical and psychological harm and which is a well-known challenge globally. Mental health law and legislative principles and experts agree that when restrictive interventions are applied, the least restrictive alternative should be used. However, there is no consensus on what is the least restrictive alternative, especially from the patient perspective.
Aim
To investigate the literature on mental health patients' preferences regarding restrictive interventions applied during admission to a psychiatric hospital.
Method
An integrative review informed by the PRISMA statement and thematic analysis were undertaken.
Results
There were tendencies towards patients preferring observation and, for the majority, mechanical restraint was the least preferred restrictive intervention. Factors such as environment, communication and duration were found to influence patients' preferences.
Discussion
There is a lack of agreement on how best to measure patients' preferences and this complicates the choice of the least restrictive alternative. Nonetheless, our findings show that staff should consider environment, communication and duration when applying restrictive interventions.
Implications for Practice
More research on restrictive interventions and the least restrictive alternative is warranted, but agreement is needed on standard measures, and a standard global definition of restrictive interventions
Adiabatic quantum pump in the presence of external ac voltages
We investigate a quantum pump which in addition to its dynamic pump
parameters is subject to oscillating external potentials applied to the
contacts of the sample. Of interest is the rectification of the ac currents
flowing through the mesoscopic scatterer and their interplay with the quantum
pump effect. We calculate the adiabatic dc current arising under the
simultaneous action of both the quantum pump effect and classical
rectification. In addition to two known terms we find a third novel
contribution which arises from the interference of the ac currents generated by
the external potentials and the ac currents generated by the pump. The
interference contribution renormalizes both the quantum pump effect and the ac
rectification effect. Analysis of this interference effect requires a
calculation of the Floquet scattering matrix beyond the adiabatic approximation
based on the frozen scattering matrix alone. The results permit us to find the
instantaneous current. In addition to the current generated by the oscillating
potentials, and the ac current due to the variation of the charge of the frozen
scatterer, there is a third contribution which represents the ac currents
generated by an oscillating scatterer. We argue that the resulting pump effect
can be viewed as a quantum rectification of the instantaneous ac currents
generated by the oscillating scatterer. These instantaneous currents are an
intrinsic property of a nonstationary scattering process.Comment: 11 pages, 1 figur
Comparison and Implementation of a Rigid and a Flexible Multibody Planetary Gearbox Model
We propose algorithms for developing (1) a rigid (constrained) and (2) a flexible planetary gearbox model. The two methods are compared against each other and advantages/disadvantages of each method are discussed. The rigid model (1) has gear tooth reaction forces expressed by Lagrange multipliers. The flexible approach (2) is being compared with the gear tooth forces from the rigid approach, first without damping and second the influence of damping is examined. Variable stiffness as a function of base circle arc length is implemented in the flexible approach such that it handles the realistic switch between one and two gear teeth in mesh. The final results are from modelling the planetary gearbox in a 500 kW wind turbine which we also described in Jørgensen et.al (2013)
Dissipation and noise in adiabatic quantum pumps
We investigate the distribution function, the heat flow and the noise
properties of an adiabatic quantum pump for an arbitrary relation of pump
frequency and temperature. To achieve this we start with the
scattering matrix approach for ac-transport. This approach leads to expressions
for the quantities of interest in terms of the side bands of particles exiting
the pump. The side bands correspond to particles which have gained or lost a
modulation quantum . We find that our results for the pump
current, the heat flow and the noise can all be expressed in terms of a
parametric emissivity matrix. In particular we find that the current
cross-correlations of a multiterminal pump are directly related a to a
non-diagonal element of the parametric emissivity matrix. The approach allows a
description of the quantum statistical correlation properties (noise) of an
adiabatic quantum pump
