    Pour une mĂ©thodologie de la complexitĂ© en Ă©ducation: le cas d’une recherche-action-formation

    L’utilisation de plus en plus large de la recherche qualitative et de la recherche-action en sciences de l’éducation donne lieu, depuis quelques annĂ©es, Ă  un renouvellement des pratiques mĂ©thodologiques et Ă  une meilleure adĂ©quation de la recherche empirique Ă  la complexitĂ© du champ Ă©ducatif. L’article qui suit se veut une contribution Ă  ce mouvement via la prĂ©sentation et la justification du design mĂ©thodologique novateur d’un projet de recherche. Il s’agit d’une recherche-action-formation impliquant une quinzaine d’ensei- gnants titulaires du premier cycle du primaire de la rĂ©gion de QuĂ©bec. Alliant recherche de terrain Ă  visĂ©e acadĂ©mique, rĂ©flexion sur la pratique, innovation pĂ©dagogique et formation diplĂŽmĂ©e, la recherche rĂ©alise une combinatoire mĂ©thodologique qui sera prĂ©- sentĂ©e plus en dĂ©tail et qui servira de point de dĂ©part pour l’examen d’un certain nombre de choix mĂ©thodologiques dont l’interaction conduit rapidement Ă  des situations nouvelles par rapport Ă  la tradition, et, partant, Ă  de nouvelles interrogations. Qualitative, action research in education has produced methodological innovations, and led to appreciation of the empirical complexity of educational phenomena. I here present and justify a design for action research in education in which 15 Quebec primary school teachers will participate. Linking academic research, reflective practice, innovative pedagogy, and formal training, this research calls for methodological decisions that would lead to questioning of traditional teaching practice.

    Dihedral angle-based maps of tetrahedral meshes

    International audienceWe present a geometric representation of a tetrahedral mesh that is solely based on dihedral angles. We first show that the shape of a tetrahedral mesh is completely defined by its dihedral angles. This proof leads to a set of angular constraints that must be satisfied for an immersion to exist in R 3. This formulation lets us easily specify conditions to avoid inverted tetrahedra and multiply-covered vertices, thus leading to locally injective maps. We then present a constrained optimization method that modifies input angles when they do not satisfy constraints. Additionally, we develop a fast spectral reconstruction method to robustly recover positions from dihedral angles. We demonstrate the applicability of our representation with examples of volume parameterization, shape interpolation, mesh optimization, connectivity shapes, and mesh compression

    Relationship between inpatient satisfaction and nurse absenteeism: an exploratory study using WHO-PATH performance indicators in France

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Indicators describing results of care are widely explored in term of patient satisfaction (PS). Among factors explaining PS, human resources indicators have been studied in terms of burnout or job satisfaction among healthcare professionals. No research work has set out to explore the effect of absenteeism on PS scores. The objective of this study was to explore interaction between rate of absenteeism among nurses and PS results.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>France has taken part in a project named PATH (Performance Assessment Tool for Hospitals) of the World Health Organization, aiming to develop a tool for the assessment of hospital performance. In the first semester 2008, 25 volunteering short-stay hospitals (teaching, general and private) provide complete data on nurse short-absenteeism (periods of up to 7 consecutive days of sick leave) and on PS (a cross-sectional postal survey using a standardized validated French-language scale EQS-H exploring "quality of medical information" (MI) and "relationships with staff and daily routine" (RS)). A multi-level model was used to take into account of the hierarchical nature of the data.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Two thousand and sixty-five patients responded to the satisfaction questionnaire (participation rate: 40.9%). The mean age of respondents was 58 yrs (± 19), 41% were men. The mean duration of hospitalisation was 7.5 days (± 11.1). The mean absenteeism rate for nurses was 0.24% (± 0.14).</p> <p>All the PS scores were significantly and negatively correlated with rate of short-absenteeism among nurses (MI score: <it>ρ </it>= -0.55, <it>p </it>< 0.01), RS score <it>ρ </it>= -0.47, <it>p </it>= 0.02). The mixed model found a significant relationship between rate of absenteeism among nurses and PS scores (MI: <it>p </it>= 0.027; RS: <it>p </it>= 0.017).</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Results obtained in this study show that short-term absenteeism among nurses seems to be significantly and negatively correlated with PS. Our findings are an invitation to deepen our understanding of the impact of human resources on PS and to develop more specific projects.</p

    Le mouvement d’études sur la paix dans les collĂšges et universitĂ©s au QuĂ©bec

    La recherche descriptive et exploratoire qui est prĂ©sentĂ©e ici vise Ă  cerner le mouvement d’études sur la paix dans les collĂšges et universitĂ©s au QuĂ©bec. On a principalement relevĂ© les diffĂ©rents cours sur la paix offerts au QuĂ©bec, Ă  partir d’une problĂ©matique spĂ©cifique se dĂ©marquant de la problĂ©matique amĂ©ricaine jusqu’ici dĂ©veloppĂ©e. Les rĂ©sultats indiquent que l’on peut parler d’un mouvement relativement important d’études sur la paix au QuĂ©bec, lesquelles se manifestent par au moins une quarantaine de cours et un programme de certificat collĂ©gial.The objective of this descriptive and exploratory research is to delineate the movement for peace studies in Quebec colleges and universities. The author presents a survey of the various courses that deal with peace studies within a specific problem framework which is differentiated from that developed by Americans until now. The results show that the movement for peace studies in Quebec is relatively important; these studies include at least 40 courses and a college course leading to a certificate in this area.El estudio descriptivo y exploratorio que se presenta aquĂ­ trata de abordar el movimiento de estudios sobre la paz en los colegios y universidades de QuĂ©bec. Se buscaron principalmente los diferentes cursos sobre la paz ofrecidos en QuĂ©bec, a partir de una problemĂĄtica especifica que se distingue de la problemĂĄtica americana desarrollada hasta ahora. Los resultados indican que se puede hablar de un movimiento relativamente importante de estudios sobre la paz en QuĂ©bec, los cuales se manifiestan por lo menos en una cuarentena de cursos y en un programa de certificado a nivel colegial.Die hier gebotene beschreibende und erkundende Untersuchung will die Tendenz zu Studien ĂŒber den Frieden in den Kollegs und UniversitĂ€ten der Provinz QuĂ©bec erfassen. Es wurden hauptsĂ€chlich die verschiedenen in QuĂ©bec gebotenen Kurse ĂŒber den Frieden aufgezeichnet, die sich von der amerikanischen Problemstellung abheben, welche bisher entwickelt worden ist.     Les mĂ©thodes d’analyse des donnĂ©es qualitatives et le monde informatique Ă©taient faits pour se rencontrer. Et en effet, la question est d’actualitĂ© et les outils informatiques nombreux et avancĂ©s. Ce phĂ©nomĂšne ne saurait s’estomper, d’autant moins que l’analyse des donnĂ©es secondaires connaĂźt en mĂȘme temps des dĂ©veloppements importants. Mais l’attrait pour les logiciels d’analyse peut devenir tel qu’on ne verrait plus trop Ă  quel titre et pour quelles raisons on pourrait s’en passer. L’article tente de cerner une vision et une pratique de l’analyse qualitative qui, dans son essence, ne se prĂȘte pas Ă  l’utilisation d’outils informatiques spĂ©cialisĂ©s. Il situe sa rĂ©flexion dans le cadre de la mĂ©thodologie qualitative (dĂ©marche qualitative, recherche qualitative, analyse qualitative), plus particuliĂšrement au niveau de l’enquĂȘte qualitative de terrain.The methods for analyzing qualitative data and the computer world were meant to meet. And, by that, the question is valid and computer tools numerous and advanced. This phenomenon will not slowdown, especially not since secondary data analysis experiences significant developments. But the attraction for analysis software could develop so that we would not see too much why and for what type of reasons we could part from them. This article attempts to define a vision and a practice of qualitative analysis that, in essence, does not use specialized computer tools. It situates its reflection within qualitative methodology (qualitative approaches, qualitative research, qualitative analysis) and moreover in the level of qualitative fieldwork investigation.Las condiciones del anĂĄlisis cualitativo. Reflexiones sobre la utilizaciĂłn de programas informĂĄticosLos mĂ©todos de anĂĄlisis de los datos cualitativos y el mundo de la informĂĄtica han nacido para entenderse mutualmente. En efecto, la cuestiĂłn es actual y los instrumentos informĂĄticos son tan numerosos como avanzados. Este encuentro no puede estancarse sobre todo si tenemos en cuenta que el anĂĄlisis de los datos segundarios experimenta destacados avances. Pero la atracciĂłn por los programas de anĂĄlisis puede ser tan fuerte que llegamos a la conclusiĂłn de que no podemos prescindir de ellos.     L'intégration des jeunes travailleurs dans les usines du secteur manufacturier

    Les importants bouleversements socio-Ă©conomiques des dix derniĂšres annĂ©es ont rendu problĂ©matique l'insertion des jeunes sur le marchĂ© du travail, en particulier dans le secteur manufacturier, touchĂ© profondĂ©ment par la crise. L'auteur a voulu connaĂźtre l'expĂ©rience d'intĂ©gration de jeunes nouveaux travailleurs plus ou moins rĂ©cemment sortis du systĂšme scolaire. Voulant rendre compte directement de leur expĂ©rience rĂ©elle des premiers mois de la vie dans des usines du secteur manufacturier, il a menĂ© une recherche de type ethnographique auprĂšs dĂ©jeunes y effectuant leur entrĂ©e. Au terme de son enquĂȘte, l'univers qu'il a approchĂ© se distingue, d'une part, par le caractĂšre minimal des pratiques formelles de socialisation adoptĂ©es par l'entreprise, d'autre part, par le caractĂšre essentiellement adaptatif des rapports des jeunes Ă  leur nouvel environnement de travail.The major socioeconomic upheavals of the past ten years have made it difficult for young people to enter the labour market, particularly in the manufacturing sector, which is deeply affected by the recession. In this context, we wished to learn about the experience, in terms of organizational integration, of young new workers who have left the school system more or less recently. With a view to describing the direct experience of the first few months of organizational life in plants in the manufacturing sector, we conducted research of an ethnographie type in the field, covering young people just entering organizations. Upon completion of the research, we were able to distinguish certain basic characteristics of the universe studies: firstly, the minimal degree of formal socialization practices implemented by the enterprises; and secondly, the essentially adaptative nature of the logic applied by youth in their new professional environment
