    Pengaruh pemanbahan tepung daging bekicot (Achatina fulica) dalam pakan terhadap pertumbuhan dan kelulushidupan ikan bandeng ( Chanos chanos, Forskall)

    Penelitian untuk mengetahui  pengaruh penambahan tepung daging bekicot (Achatina fulica) dalam pakan terhadap kelulushidupan dan pertumbuhan ikan bandeng (Chanos chanos, Forskall) telah dilakukan di Balai Benih Ikan Pantai Tablolong dari Februari hingga Maret 2019. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL, 3t, 3r), dan pakan yang diuji adalah penambahan tepung bekicot masing-masing sebanyak 10% (A), 20% (B), dan 30% (C) dalam pakan komersial. ANOVA menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan berpengaruh nyata (P<0,05), baik terhadap pertumbuhan mutlak, laju pertumbuhan spesifik maupun konversi pakan. Pertumbahan mutlak tertingggi terlihat di C sebesar 62,8 ± 3,58 g,  diikuti oleh B, sebesar 54,68 ± 3,68 g, dan  A, sebesar 52,80 ± 2,37 g. Laju pertumbuhan spesifik tertingggi terlihat pada C sebesar 2,63±0,10 g, diikuti B sebesar 2,46±0,13 g, dan A sebesar 2,46±0,04 g. Nilai konversi pakan pada perlakuan A sebesar 1,60±0,04, B sebesar 2,32±0,23, dan   C sebesar 2,70±0,22. Rata- rata kelulushidupan pada A 93,33 %, B 100%, dan C sebesar 100 %. Hasil penelitian memberikan kesimpulan bahwa penambahan tepung bekicot (Achatina fulica) dalam pakan penting bagi pertumbuhan ikan bandeng, Secara umum hasil terbaik terobservasi pada penambahan 30% tepung daging bekicot dalam pakan.     Evaluation of allelic forms of the erythrocyte binding antigen 175 (EBA-175) in Plasmodium falciparum field isolates from Brazilian endemic area

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The <it>Plasmodium falciparum </it>Erythrocyte Binding Antigen-175 (EBA-175) is an antigen considered to be one of the leading malaria vaccine candidates. EBA-175 mediates sialic acid-dependent binding to glycophorin A on the erythrocytes playing a crucial role during invasion of the <it>P. falciparum </it>in the host cell. Dimorphic allele segments, termed C-fragment and F-fragment, have been found in high endemicity malaria areas and associations between the dimorphism and severe malaria have been described. In this study, the genetic dimorphism of EBA-175 was evaluated in <it>P. falciparum </it>field isolates from Brazilian malaria endemic area.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The study was carried out in rural villages situated near Porto Velho, Rondonia State in the Brazilian Amazon in three time points between 1993 and 2008. The allelic dimorphism of the EBA-175 was analysed by Nested PCR.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The classical allelic dimorphism of the EBA-175 was identified in the studied area. Overall, C-fragment was amplified in a higher frequency than F-fragment. The same was observed in the three time points where C-fragment was observed in a higher frequency than F-fragment. Single infections (one fragment amplified) were more frequent than mixed infection (two fragments amplified).</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>These findings confirm the dimorphism of EBA175, since only the two types of fragments were amplified, C-fragment and F-fragment. Also, the results show the remarkable predominance of CAMP allele in the studied area. The comparative analysis in three time points indicates that the allelic dimorphism of the EBA-175 is stable over time.</p

    Mental Disorders in Megacities: Findings from the São Paulo Megacity Mental Health Survey, Brazil

    Background: World population growth is projected to be concentrated in megacities, with increases in social inequality and urbanization-associated stress. São Paulo Metropolitan Area (SPMA) provides a forewarning of the burden of mental disorders in urban settings in developing world. The aim of this study is to estimate prevalence, severity, and treatment of recently active DSM-IV mental disorders. We examined socio-demographic correlates, aspects of urban living such as internal migration, exposure to violence, and neighborhood-level social deprivation with 12-month mental disorders. Methods and Results: A representative cross-sectional household sample of 5,037 adults was interviewed face-to-face using the WHO Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI), to generate diagnoses of DSM-IV mental disorders within 12 months of interview, disorder severity, and treatment. Administrative data on neighborhood social deprivation were gathered. Multiple logistic regression was used to evaluate individual and contextual correlates of disorders, severity, and treatment. Around thirty percent of respondents reported a 12-month disorder, with an even distribution across severity levels. Anxiety disorders were the most common disorders (affecting 19.9%), followed by mood (11%), impulse-control (4.3%), and substance use (3.6%) disorders. Exposure to crime was associated with all four types of disorder. Migrants had low prevalence of all four types compared to stable residents. High urbanicity was associated with impulse-control disorders and high social deprivation with substance use disorders. Vulnerable subgroups were observed: women and migrant men living in most deprived areas. Only one-third of serious cases had received treatment in the previous year. Discussion: Adults living in São Paulo megacity had prevalence of mental disorders at greater levels than similar surveys conducted in other areas of the world. Integration of mental health promotion and care into the rapidly expanding Brazilian primary health system should be strengthened. This strategy might become a model for poorly resourced and highly populated developing countries

    Overview of the medium and high frequency telescopes of the LiteBIRD space mission

    LiteBIRD is a JAXA-led Strategic Large-Class mission designed to search for the existence of the primordial gravitational waves produced during the inflationary phase of the Universe, through the measurements of their imprint onto the polarization of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). These measurements, requiring unprecedented sensitivity, will be performed over the full sky, at large angular scales, and over 15 frequency bands from 34 GHz to 448 GHz. The LiteBIRD instruments consist of three telescopes, namely the Low-, Medium-and High-Frequency Telescope (respectively LFT, MFT and HFT). We present in this paper an overview of the design of the Medium-Frequency Telescope (89{224 GHz) and the High-Frequency Telescope (166{448 GHz), the so-called MHFT, under European responsibility, which are two cryogenic refractive telescopes cooled down to 5 K. They include a continuous rotating half-wave plate as the first optical element, two high-density polyethylene (HDPE) lenses and more than three thousand transition-edge sensor (TES) detectors cooled to 100 mK. We provide an overview of the concept design and the remaining specific challenges that we have to face in order to achieve the scientific goals of LiteBIRD

    LiteBIRD satellite: JAXA's new strategic L-class mission for all-sky surveys of cosmic microwave background polarization

    LiteBIRD, the Lite (Light) satellite for the study of B-mode polarization and Inflation from cosmic background Radiation Detection, is a space mission for primordial cosmology and fundamental physics. JAXA selected LiteBIRD in May 2019 as a strategic large-class (L-class) mission, with its expected launch in the late 2020s using JAXA's H3 rocket. LiteBIRD plans to map the cosmic microwave background (CMB) polarization over the full sky with unprecedented precision. Its main scientific objective is to carry out a definitive search for the signal from cosmic inflation, either making a discovery or ruling out well-motivated inflationary models. The measurements of LiteBIRD will also provide us with an insight into the quantum nature of gravity and other new physics beyond the standard models of particle physics and cosmology. To this end, LiteBIRD will perform full-sky surveys for three years at the Sun-Earth Lagrangian point L2 for 15 frequency bands between 34 and 448 GHz with three telescopes, to achieve a total sensitivity of 2.16 μK-arcmin with a typical angular resolution of 0.5° at 100 GHz.
