The association of cognitive and somatic depressive symptoms with depression recognition and outcomes after myocardial infarction
BACKGROUND: Among patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), depression is both common and under-recognized. The association of different manifestations of depression, somatic and cognitive, with depression recognition and long-term prognosis is poorly understood. METHODS AND RESULTS: Depression was confirmed in 481 AMI patients enrolled from 21 sites during their index hospitalization with a Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) score ≥10. Within the PHQ-9, separate somatic and cognitive symptom scores were derived and the independent association between these domains and the clinical recognition of depression, as documented in the medical records, was evaluated. In a separate multisite AMI registry of 2,347 patients, the association between somatic and cognitive depressive symptoms and 4-year all-cause mortality and 1-year all-cause rehospitalization was evaluated. Depression was clinically recognized in 29% (n=140) of patients. Cognitive depressive symptoms (Relative Risk [RR] per Standard Deviation [SD] increase=1.14; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.03–1.26; p=0.01) were independently associated with depression recognition, while the association for somatic symptoms and recognition (RR=1.04; 95% CI 0.87–1.26; p=0.66) was not significant. However, unadjusted Cox regression analyses found that only somatic depressive symptoms were associated with 4-year mortality (Hazard Ratio [HR] per SD increase=1.22; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.08–1.39) or 1-year rehospitalization (HR=1.22; 95%CI 1.11–1.33) while cognitive manifestations were not (HR for mortality=1.01; 95%CI 0.89–1.14; HR for rehospitalization=1.01; 95%CI 0.93–1.11). After multivariable adjustment, the association between somatic symptoms and rehospitalization persisted (HR=1.16; 95% CI:1.06–1.27; p=0.01) but was attenuated for mortality (HR=1.07; 95% CI:0.94–1.21; p=0.30). CONCLUSIONS: Depression after AMI was recognized in fewer than 1 in 3 patients. Although cognitive symptoms were associated with recognition of depression, somatic symptoms were associated with long-term outcomes. Comprehensive screening and treatment of both somatic and cognitive symptoms may be necessary to optimize depression recognition and treatment in AMI patients
Childhood Adversity, Resilience, and Mental Health: A Sequential Mixed-Methods Study of Chinese Young Adults
Resilience is a key health protective factor for those with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), but little research has explored how it manifests in early adulthood or across cultures. The purpose of this study was to generate a fuller understanding of resilience and its contribution to the relationships between mental health problems and ACEs among Chinese young adults in Hong Kong. Using a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, 433 Chinese young adults aged 18-24 years were surveyed online to examine the relationships between ACEs, resilience, and mental health problems (depression, anxiety, maladjustment, and post-traumatic stress symptoms). Among them, 34 participants with ACEs were purposively selected and interviewed to explore cultural factors that influenced their resilience. Quantitative data were analyzed using multiple hierarchical regression analyses; qualitative data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach.Higher cumulative ACE exposure was associated with higher severity of adjustment disorder and odds for screening positive for post-traumatic stress disorders, but not for symptoms of depression or anxiety. Resilience significantly contributed to explaining variances across all mental health outcomes over and beyond ACEs and in a protective fashion. Four themes emerged from qualitative interviews: (1) Privacy, emotional restraint, and “saving face”; (2) Conforming to preserve harmony; (3) A will to excel; and (4) Viewing adversity as a matter of luck. These findings suggest Chinese young adults’ resilience was influenced by cultural norms of restraint, conformity, competition, and superstition. The present study provides a model for future studies using a mixed-methods design to deeply examine resilience among younger people exposed to early adversities within sociocultural, historical, or geographical contexts
Charged Cylindrical Collapse of Anisotropic Fluid
Following the scheme developed by Misner and Sharp, we discuss the dynamics
of gravitational collapse. For this purpose, an interior cylindrically
symmetric spacetime is matched to an exterior charged static cylindrically
symmetric spacetime using the Darmois matching conditions. Dynamical equations
are obtained with matter dissipating in the form of shear viscosity. The effect
of charge and dissipative quantities over the cylindrical collapse are studied.
Finally, we show that homogeneity in energy density and conformal flatness of

Space-time inhomogeneity, anisotropy and gravitational collapse
We investigate the evolution of non-adiabatic collapse of a shear-free
spherically symmetric stellar configuration with anisotropic stresses
accompanied with radial heat flux. The collapse begins from a curvature
singularity with infinite mass and size on an inhomogeneous space-time
background. The collapse is found to proceed without formation of an even
horizon to singularity when the collapsing configuration radiates all its mass
energy. The impact of inhomogeneity on various parameters of the collapsing

Compactification with Flux on K3 and Tori
We study compactifications of Type IIB string theory on a K3 \times T^2/Z_2
orientifold in the presence of RR and NS flux. We find the most general
supersymmetry preserving, Poincare invariant, vacua in this model. All the
complex structure moduli and some of the Kahler moduli are stabilised in these
vacua. We obtain in an explicit fashion the restrictions imposed by
supersymmetry on the flux, and the values of the fixed moduli. Some T-duals and
Heterotic duals are also discussed, these are non-Calabi-Yau spaces. A

Turbulent Compressible Convection with Rotation - Penetration above a Convection Zone
We perform Large eddy simulations of turbulent compressible convection in
stellar-type convection zones by solving the Navi\'{e}r-Stokes equations in
three dimensions. We estimate the extent of penetration into the stable layer
above a stellar-type convection zone by varying the rotation rate
({\boldmath}), the inclination of the rotation vector () and
the relative stability () of the upper stable layer. The computational
domain is a rectangular box in an f-plane configuration and is divided into two
regions of unstable and stable stratification with the stable layer placed
above the convectively unstable layer. Several models have been computed and
the penetration distance into the stable layer above the convection zone is
estimated by determining the position where time averaged kinetic energy flux
has the first zero in the upper stable layer. The vertical grid spacing in all
the model is non-uniform, and is less in the upper region so that the flows are
better resolved in the region of interest. We find that the penetration
distance increases as the rotation rate increases for the case when the
rotation vector is aligned with the vertical axis. However, with the increase
in the stability of the upper stable layer, the upward penetration distance
decreases. Since we are not able to afford computations with finer resolution
for all the models, we compute a number of models to see the effect of
increased resolution on the upward penetration. In addition, we estimate the
