Lifetime of Stringy de Sitter Vacua
In this note we perform a synopsis of the life-times from vacuum decay of
several de Sitter vacuum constructions in string/M-theory which have a single
dS minimum arising from lifting a pre-existing AdS extremum and no other local
minima existent after lifting. For these vacua the decay proceeds via a
Coleman--De Luccia instanton towards the universal Minkowski minimum at
infinite volume. This can be calculated using the thin--wall approximation,
provided the cosmological constant of the local dS minimum is tuned
sufficiently small. We compare the estimates for the different model classes
and find them all stable in the sense of exponentially long life times as long
as they have a very small cosmological constant and a scale of supersymmetry

A Phase Transition between Small and Large Field Models of Inflation
We show that models of inflection point inflation exhibit a phase transition
from a region in parameter space where they are of large field type to a region
where they are of small field type. The phase transition is between a universal
behavior, with respect to the initial condition, at the large field region and
non-universal behavior at the small field region. The order parameter is the
number of e-foldings. We find integer critical exponents at the transition

de Sitter String Vacua from Kahler Uplifting
We present a new way to construct de Sitter vacua in type IIB flux
compactifications, in which the interplay of the leading perturbative and
non-perturbative effects stabilize all moduli in dS vacua at parametrically
large volume. Here, the closed string fluxes fix the dilaton and the complex
structure moduli while the universal leading perturbative quantum correction to
the Kahler potential together with non-perturbative effects stabilize the
volume Kahler modulus in a dS_4-vacuum. Since the quantum correction is known
exactly and can be kept parametrically small, this construction leads to
calculable and explicitly realized de Sitter vacua of string theory with

Systematics of String Loop Corrections in Type IIB Calabi-Yau Flux Compactifications
We study the behaviour of the string loop corrections to the N=1 4D
supergravity Kaehler potential that occur in flux compactifications of IIB
string theory on general Calabi-Yau three-folds. We give a low energy
interpretation for the conjecture of Berg, Haack and Pajer for the form of the
loop corrections to the Kaehler potential. We check the consistency of this
interpretation in several examples. We show that for arbitrary Calabi-Yaus, the
leading contribution of these corrections to the scalar potential is always
vanishing, giving an "extended no-scale structure". This result holds as long
as the corrections are homogeneous functions of degree -2 in the 2-cycle
volumes. We use the Coleman-Weinberg potential to motivate this cancellation
from the viewpoint of low-energy field theory. Finally we give a simple formula
for the 1-loop correction to the scalar potential in terms of the tree-level
Kaehler metric and the correction to the Kaehler potential. We illustrate our
ideas with several examples. A companion paper will use these results in the

Passive-performance, analysis, and upgrades of a 1-ton seismic attenuation system
The 10m Prototype facility at the Albert-Einstein-Institute (AEI) in Hanover,
Germany, employs three large seismic attenuation systems to reduce mechanical
motion. The AEI Seismic-Attenuation-System (AEI-SAS) uses mechanical
anti-springs in order to achieve resonance frequencies below 0.5Hz. This system
provides passive isolation from ground motion by a factor of about 400 in the
horizontal direction at 4Hz and in the vertical direction at 9Hz. The presented
isolation performance is measured under vacuum conditions using a combination
of commercial and custom-made inertial sensors. Detailed analysis of this
performance led to the design and implementation of tuned dampers to mitigate
the effect of the unavoidable higher order modes of the system. These dampers
reduce RMS motion substantially in the frequency range between 10 and 100Hz in
6 degrees of freedom. The results presented here demonstrate that the AEI-SAS
provides substantial passive isolation at all the fundamental mirror-suspension
resonances
Oscillations in the bispectrum
There exist several models of inflation that produce primordial bispectra
that contain a large number of oscillations. In this paper we discuss these
models, and aim at finding a method of detecting such bispectra in the data. We
explain how the recently proposed method of mode expansion of bispectra might
be able to reconstruct these spectra from separable basis functions. Extracting
these basis functions from the data might then lead to observational

Volume modulus inflation and a low scale of SUSY breaking
The relation between the Hubble constant and the scale of supersymmetry
breaking is investigated in models of inflation dominated by a string modulus.
Usually in this kind of models the gravitino mass is of the same order of
magnitude as the Hubble constant which is not desirable from the
phenomenological point of view. It is shown that slow-roll saddle point
inflation may be compatible with a low scale of supersymmetry breaking only if
some corrections to the lowest order Kahler potential are taken into account.
However, choosing an appropriate Kahler potential is not enough. There are also
conditions for the superpotential, and e.g. the popular racetrack
superpotential turns out to be not suitable. A model is proposed in which
slow-roll inflation and a light gravitino are compatible. It is based on a
superpotential with a triple gaugino condensation and the Kahler potential with
the leading string corrections. The problem of fine tuning and experimental

Probing the structure of the cold dark matter halo with ancient mica
Mica can store (for >1 Gy) etchable tracks caused by atoms recoiling from
WIMPs. Ancient mica is a directional detector despite the complex motions it
makes with respect to the WIMP "wind". We can exploit the properties of
directionality and long integration time to probe for structure in the dark
matter halo of our galaxy. We compute a sample of possible signals in mica for
a plausible model of halo structure.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure
The Fundamental Diagram of Pedestrian Movement Revisited
The empirical relation between density and velocity of pedestrian movement is
not completely analyzed, particularly with regard to the `microscopic' causes
which determine the relation at medium and high densities. The simplest system
for the investigation of this dependency is the normal movement of pedestrians
along a line (single-file movement). This article presents experimental results
for this system under laboratory conditions and discusses the following
observations: The data show a linear relation between the velocity and the
inverse of the density, which can be regarded as the required length of one
pedestrian to move. Furthermore we compare the results for the single-file
movement with literature data for the movement in a plane. This comparison
shows an unexpected conformance between the fundamental diagrams, indicating
that lateral interference has negligible influence on the velocity-density
relation at the density domain . In addition we test a
procedure for automatic recording of pedestrian flow characteristics. We
present preliminary results on measurement range and accuracy of this method.Comment: 13 pages, 9 figure
