    Homophileurus neptunus Dechambre was found to be conspecific with H. waldenfelsi Endrödi after examination of types, descriptions, and illustrations. Accordingly, H. neptunus is placed in junior synonymy with H. waldenfelsi, new synonymy. Homophileurus waldenfelsi is an uncommon species and occurs in Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, and Peru. Brazil and Peru are new country records

    Sensory Difference of Bio-Dynamically, Organically and Conventionally Produced Wheat from the DOK Long-Term Field Trial

    There is a need of scientific evidence on the differentiation of organic from conventional produce concerning health, nutrition and sensory related qualities (Leifert et al., 2007). Analysis of wheat from the DOK long-term system comparison trial near Basel, Switzerland (Mäder et al., 2002) showed that organic wheat differed in contents of 16 “diagnostic” proteins from conventional wheat (Zörb et al., 2009a), had higher concentrations of K+ and Mg2+ cations and lower concentrations of six amino acids, and a different seed ripening metabolism (Zörb et al., 2009b). In a previous sensory test with cooked porridge of wheat (cv. Tamaro) from the DOK trial (harvest 1999), the biodynamic samples had been preferred (Arncken et al., 2007).     We investigate the transmission of focused beams through single subwavelength holes in a silver film. We use radially and azimuthally polarized light, respectively, to excite higher order waveguide modes as well as to match the radial symmetry of the aperture geometry. Remarkably, the transmission properties can be described by a classical waveguide model even for thicknesses of the silver film as thin as a quarter of a wavelength

    The Millennium Galaxy Catalogue: The nearby supermassive black hole mass function

    We highlight the correlation between a galaxy's supermassive black hole mass and the Sersic-index of the host spheroid or bulge component. From our bulge-disk decompositions of 10 095 galaxies, drawn from the Millennium Galaxy Catalogue, we construct the local (z < 0.18) mass function of supermassive black holes. We compare our results to those of McLure & Dunlop (2004) and conclude that the mass density of supermassive black holes may be marginally higher than previously supposed. This increase is predominantly due to the inclusion of low mass and later-type bulges.     Boltzmann-type approach to transport in weakly interacting one-dimensional fermionic systems

    We investigate transport properties of one-dimensional fermionic tight binding models featuring nearest and next-nearest neighbor hopping, where the fermions are additionally subject to a weak short range mutual interaction. To this end we employ a pertinent approach which allows for a mapping of the underlying Schr\"odinger dynamics onto an adequate linear quantum Boltzmann equation. This approach is based on a suitable projection operator method. From this Boltzmann equation we are able to numerically obtain diffusion coefficients in the case of non-vanishing next-nearest neighbor hopping, i.e., the non-integrable case, whereas the diffusion coefficient diverges without next-nearest neighbor hopping. For the latter case we analytically investigate the decay behavior of the current with the result that arbitrarily small parts of the current relax arbitrarily slowly which suggests anomalous diffusive transport behavior within the scope of our approach.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in Phys.     Control of light transmission through opaque scattering media in space and time

    We report the first experimental demonstration of combined spatial and temporal control of light trajectories through opaque media. This control is achieved by solely manipulating spatial degrees of freedom of the incident wavefront. As an application, we demonstrate that the present approach is capable to form bandwidth-limited ultrashort pulses from the otherwise randomly transmitted light with a controllable interaction time of the pulses with the medium. Our approach provides a new tool for fundamental studies of light propagation in complex media and has potential for applications for coherent control, sensing and imaging in nano- and biophotonics
