A numerical test of the Y-system in the small size limit of the SU(2)x SU(2) Principal Chiral Model

Recently, Kazakov, Gromov and Vieira applied the discrete Hirota dynamics to study the finite size spectra of integrable two dimensional quantum field theories. The method has been tested from large values of the size L down to moderate values using the SU(2) x SU(2) principal chiral model as a theoretical laboratory. We continue the numerical analysis of the proposed non-linear integral equations showing that the deep ultraviolet region L -> 0 is numerically accessible. To this aim, we introduce a relaxed iterative algorithm for the numerical computation of the low-lying part of the spectrum in the U(1) sector. We discuss in details the systematic errors involved in the computation. When a comparison is possible, full agreement is found with previous TBA computations.Comment: 28 pages, 24 figure

Production of neutral MSSM Higgs bosons in e+ee^+e^- collisions: a complete 1-loop calculation

    Get PDF
We present the first complete 1-loop diagrammatic calculation of the cross sections for the neutral Higgs production processes e^+e^-\ra Z^0h^0 and e^+e^-\ra A^0h^0 in the minimal supersymmetric standard model. We compare the results from the diagrammatic calculation with the corresponding ones of the simpler and compact effective potential approximation and discuss the typical size of the differences.Comment: LaTeX, 16 pages, 8 figures appended in a uuencoded file, complete PostScript file available at http://itpaxp1.physik.uni-karlsruhe.de/prep/KA-TP-16-1995/KA-TP-16-199

Monitoring Penguins at Sea using Data Loggers

    Get PDF
The activity of four penguin species at sea was studied using new data loggers. One unit was fixed to the bird's backs and recorded swim speed, swim heading and dive depth from which the three dimensional movements of the birds at sea could be constructed by vector calculations. This unit additionally recorded sea temperature and light intensity. A further, single-channel logger was ingested by the birds and recorded stomach temperature during the periods at sea. Drops in stomach temperature were indicative of prey capture and could be ascribed to specific localities

Testing J/psi Production and Decay Properties in Hadronic Collisions

The polar and azimuthal angular distributions for the lepton pair arising from the decay of a J/psi meson produced at transverse momentum p_T balanced by a photon [or gluon] in hadronic collisions are calculated in the color singlet model (CSM). It is shown that the general structure of the decay lepton distribution is controlled by four invariant structure functions, which are functions of the transverse momentum and the rapidity of the J/psi. We found that two of these structure functions [the longitudinal and transverse interference structure functions] are identical in the CSM. Analytical and numerical results are given in the Collins-Soper and in the Gottfried-Jackson frame. We present a Monte Carlo study of the effect of acceptance cuts applied to the leptons and the photon for J/psi+ gamma production at the Tevatron.Comment: 22 pages (LaTeX) plus 11 postscript figures, MAD/PH/822, YUMS94-11. Analytic properties of the Landau gauge gluon and quark propagators

We explore the analytic structure of the gluon and quark propagators of Landau gauge QCD from numerical solutions of the coupled system of renormalized Dyson--Schwinger equations and from fits to lattice data. We find sizable negative norm contributions in the transverse gluon propagator indicating the absence of the transverse gluon from the physical spectrum. A simple analytic structure for the gluon propagator is proposed. For the quark propagator we find evidence for a mass-like singularity on the real timelike momentum axis, with a mass of 350 to 500 MeV. Within the employed Green's functions approach we identify a crucial term in the quark-gluon vertex that leads to a positive definite Schwinger function for the quark propagator.Comment: 42 pages, 16 figures, revtex; version to be published in Phys Rev

The Clean Power Plan: Issues to Watch

    Get PDF
Although the Clean Air Act is an imperfect tool for addressing the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions, it is the only available federal mechanism for directly addressing power plant carbon emissions. The Obama Administration’s Clean Power Plan, published in final form in August 2015, tackles the challenge. This paper from the Center for Progressive Reform (CPR) compiles 13 separately authored essays from 11 CPR Member Scholars, each addressing a different topic related to the Clean Power Plan, and each representing the expertise and views of its individual author(s). Published in July 2015, just before the release of the final rule, the essays tee up key questions about the rule’s legality, implications for the energy sector, and a series of discrete implementation questions, including the role of cap-and-trade (and offsets), the nature and distribution of state targets, and implications for environmental justice
