A series of coverings of the regular n-gon

We define an infinite series of translation coverings of Veech's double-n-gon for odd n greater or equal to 5 which share the same Veech group. Additionally we give an infinite series of translation coverings with constant Veech group of a regular n-gon for even n greater or equal to 8. These families give rise to explicit examples of infinite translation surfaces with lattice Veech group.Comment: A missing case in step 1 in the proof of Thm. 1 b was added. Implementing an eleven year through-train model to complete Primary and Secondary Education: creating a platform for accommodating the newest pedagogical practices and technologies in school

In educational transformation, Logos Academy of Hong Kong has started to create space in two aspects: to accommodate for new learning areas, and to use the most updated technologies for learning. In different Learning Stages, new learning areas like "Family Life Education", "Analytical study of Current Issues", Mind-mapping, MegaSkills and Media Education are introduced. The teachers will design different level- and age-appropriate activities and assignments that encourage the mastery of basic concepts and development of aesthetic appreciation, family life education, character formation, physique building and inquiry/research skills. Moreover, integrated tasks and projects intertwining with different study skills are mounted to enable the children to experiment creative designs and try out increasingly complex investigations. To facilitate learning and teaching, Logos Academy also creates new platforms to use the newest technologies for pre-lesson use, for lesson use, and for post-lesson use. It is reviewed that with the aid of some updated technologies, our teachers are committed to facilitate change, reflect on current practices, explore further improvements in new learning areas and to use the new technologies effectively - which will in turn enhance the effectiveness of integrated study skills, self-directed learning, team work and social interaction of the students

Implementing an eleven year through-train model to complete Primary and Secondary Education , is it possible? Why Not? : some challenges and principles

As learning and teaching is moving away from imparting student with mere "knowledge", the simple one-size-fits-all solution of a prescribed years of schooling with some rigid and prescriptive subject syllabuses designated for different year-levels in primary and secondary schools will no longer meet the developmental needs of students. Logos Academy of Hong Kong has started an "Eleven-year Through-train Program in September 2002, to re-define the different key stages in primary, junior and senior secondary levels to provide a broad and balanced curriculum which maintains seamless continuity. The eleven-year program consists of three stages, each with its particular characteristics: Foundation Stage: (FS1- FS3); Developmental Stage: (DS1 - DS5) and Mastery Stage (MS1 - MS3). We have achieved some pleasing outcome so far and we believe that this re-definition of Key Learning Stages is forward looking and keeping abreast of global trends. If this "Eleven-year Through-Train Schooling System" model is proved to be successful, it will throw some light on a new schooling structure - which will have significant implications on the government's funding and planning policie

Implementing an eleven year through-train model to complete Primary and Secondary Education: an innovative curriculum design, and optimizing the roles of subject specialists in the early learning stages

In an eleven year "through-train" model, to construct a new road map for learning, Logos Academy of Hong Kong has delineated clearly the roles of "Homeroom Teachers" and "Subject Specialists". In the Foundation Stage (The first three years in Primary Schooling), the "Homeroom Teachers" will no longer teach most of the academic subjects for their respective Homeroom classes. They will undertake mainly pastoral care functions whilst different subject specialists are deployed to teach different subject areas accordingly. Each Subject teacher will teach ALL the classes within a year-band. In some Subjects like English Studies, two or three teachers will share the teaching load according to their specialties. After putting in practice for two years, evidence has shown that with this "Subject specialist across the year band" approach, the curriculum rigor has been strengthened and children have made much more remarkable progress in specific learning areas. Moreover, it has created space and opportunities for co-teaching and joint projects. This has in turn facilitated communication, collaboration and professional development of teachers in their subject specialty. Within the same subject area, the inter-teacher difference between classes of the same year level has been diminished, and the effectiveness of teaching and learning across the whole year-band may be better monitored and evaluated. The subject specialist is also in a better position to design and organize necessary follow-up actions (including enrichment or remedial work) more efficientl

Monitoring the Philippine Economy Fourth Quarter Report for 2022

The Philippine economy grew 7.2 percent, featuring robust growth despite facing domestic challenges. Fourth quarter growth reflected a more optimistic consumer sentiment as the economy continued to open up. Economic growth in Q4 2022 was 7.2 percent year-on-year and 17.1 percent quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q), showing the Philippines’ consistent effort to create a positive growth outlook for the economy (see Table 1). Year-on-year growth exceeded the median analyst forecast of 6.8 percent despite accelerating inflation and growing food security issues. Revenge spending continues to drive consumption on the demand side while service sector growth remains headstrong on the supply side amid stunted growth in the industry and agriculture sectors. Meanwhile, an expected reversal to a balance-of-payments surplus at December-end was fueled by remittances and tourism receipts during the holiday season. The trade deficit narrowed as well in Q4-end, with prospects for trade looking bright with the Senate’s eventual ratification of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership in the next quarter. Looking ahead, the central bank and national government must continue to determine the effective mix of policies and straighten out its priorities to support the economy\u27s recovery

Statistical analysis of soy cultivation in Argentina

Argentina are analyzed. The main objective is to obtain information that will be useful for the analysis of the environmental consequences of the progress of this crop in the country. This has been made by a descriptive statistical analysis and a factor analysis was used to identify factors which characterize the soybean crop and also a classification or clustering between provinces with similar characteristics. The information parameters studied were: the tendency and dispersion measures for soybean yield of 15 provinces in which it was grown between the 2001/02 and 2010/11 or from 2001/02 to 2010/11; the correlations between area harvested acreage, seeded area, production and performance, and the factors that bind some variables that characterize the soybean crop that allows a grouping between provinces with similar characteristics. Analyses were performed by using data obtained from: 1) MinAgri (last 10 seasons) b) 2001 National Census c) CNA 2002. From a group of variables: region extension (ha); population density 2001; population of the region in 2001; NBI 2001, literate people older than 10 years 2001; illiterate people older than 10 years 2001; permanent workers in the farming sector 2002; seeded area (ha) 2002; cultivated area of oily plants (ha) 2002; tractors 2002; harvesters 2002; seeded area (ha) 2001/02; harvested area (ha) 2001/02; production (Tn) 2001/02.Fil: Miranda del Fresno, Ma. Two-Point Entanglement Near a Quantum Phase Transition

In this work, we study the two-point entanglement S(i,j), which measures the entanglement between two separated degrees of freedom (ij) and the rest of system, near a quantum phase transition. Away from the critical point, S(i,j) saturates with a characteristic length scale ξE\xi_E, as the distance |i-j| increases. The entanglement length ξE\xi_E agrees with the correlation length. The universality and finite size scaling of entanglement are demonstrated in a class of exactly solvable one dimensional spin model. By connecting the two-point entanglement to correlation functions in the long range limit, we argue that the prediction power of a two-point entanglement is universal as long as the two involved points are separated far enough.Comment: published versio

    Non-Fermi-Liquid Scaling in Ce(Ru_{0.5}Rh_{0.5})_2Si_2

We study the temperature and field dependence of the magnetic and transport properties of the non-Fermi-liquid compound Ce(Ru_{1-x}Rh_x)_2Si_2 at x=0.5. For fields ≲\lesssim 0.1T the experimental results show signatures of the presence of Kondo-disorder, expected to be large at this concentration. For larger fields, however, magnetic and transport properties are controlled by the coupling of the conduction electrons to critical spin-fluctuations. The temperature dependence of the susceptibility as well as the scaling properties of the magnetoresistance are in very good agreement with the predictions of recent dynamical mean-field theories of Kondo alloys close to a spin-glass quantum critical point.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures.
