Takayasu arteritis in pregnancy: a case report, and clinical lessons learnt
A case report of known case of Takayasu arteritis (known to the woman in case report) in a primigravida, but unrevealed to the obstetrician till advanced stage of pregnancy is reported. The authors share the lessons learnt by them from this case which would improve diagnosis, evaluation and management of pregnancy hypertension. A brief account on clinical manifestations and diagnosis of Takayasu arteritis is also included
Acute muscle dystonia resulting from medication error: a case report
Acute Muscle Dystonia (AMD) due to medication error is rarely reported in the literature. We are reporting a case of adverse drug reaction due to a single dose of haloperidol. Patient was free from any psychiatric illness and still he developed AMD with use of haloperidol because of medication error. The patient recovered completely from AMD symptoms in one hour after receiving the treatment. This case report intends to improve the awareness among clinicians to be cautious while writing the prescriptions
Adoption of International Financial Reporting Standard for Small and Medium Enterprises in North Central Nigeria: Implications for Financial Reporting Quality
Previous studies have paid little attention to the adoption of International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS) for SMEs in North-Central geo-political zone of Nigeria. This study investigates level of awareness, challenges and willingness for the adoption of IFRS for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in North-Central Nigeria, with a view to highlighting the implications of the adoption for financial reporting quality among the SMEs. The outcome variable in the study is financial reporting quality measured by qualitative reporting attributes namely reliability, comparability and understandability. The explanatory and control variables are IFRS awareness, challenges and willingness for the adoption, while others are taxation, entitie
A Relevance of Serological Tests in Diagnosis of Early Congenital Syphilis: A Case Report
Abstract Congenital syphilis is acquired by an infant from an infected mother by transplacental transmission of Treponema pallidum during pregnancy or possibly at birth from contact with maternal lesions. Early form of congenital syphilis is when the clinical manifestations occur before two years of age and late congenital syphilis is when manifestations occur among untreated patients after two years of age. Serological tests hold a mainstay in syphilis diagnosis. Nontreponemal tests are commonly used as a screening test for syphilis, which may turn negative after full course of treatment, while treponemal tests are diagnostic and remain positive for life in low titre even after treatment. Here, we present a case of early congenital syphilis and its confirmation with serological tests with emphasis on the relevance of these tests in confirmation of diagnosis
Influence of pre-bloom sprays of benzyladenine on in vitro recovery of hybrid embryos from crosses of Thompson Seedless and 8 seeded varieties of grape (Vitis spp.)
The present investigations are part of a study to introgress downy mildew resistance in Thompson Seedless through breeding and in ovulo embryo rescue methods. The influence of sprays of benzyladenine (BA) at prebloom and bloom on the percentage of embryo recovery, germination and development of hybrid plants is described. BA gave mixed results among the 8 cross combinations. With some crosses, BA drastically improved these parameters. In almost all crosses, germination increased significantly with BA sprays. The influence on plant development and recovery depended on BA treatment and the male parent

Not AvailableDisease resistance (R) genes like Pi9, Pita, Pi21, Pi54 are playing important role for broad spectrum blast resistance in rice. Development of near isogenic lines (NILs) using these type of broad spectrum genes and understanding their signalling networks is essential to cope up with highly evolving Magnaporthe oryzae strains for longer duration. Here, transcriptional-level changes were studied in three nearisogenic lines (PB1 + Pi1, PB1 + Pi9 and PB1 + Pi54) of rice resistant to blast infection, to find the loci that are unique to resistant lines developed in the background of Pusa Basmati 1 (PB1). The pathway analysis of loci, unique to resistant NILs compared to susceptible control revealed that plant secondary metabolite synthesis was the common mechanism among all NILs to counter against M. oryzae infection. Comparative transcriptome analysis helped to find out common clusters of co-expressed significant differentially expressed loci (SDEL) in both PB1 + Pi9 and PB1 + Pi54 NILs. SDELs from these clusters were involved in the synthesis and degradation of starch; synthesis and elongation of fatty acids; hydrolysis of phospholipids; synthesis of phenylpropanoid; and metabolism of ethylene and jasmonic acid. Through detailed analysis of loci specific to each resistant NIL, we identified a network of signalling pathways mediated by each blast resistance gene. The study also offers insights into transcriptomic dynamics, points to a set of important candidate genes that serve as module to regulate the changes in resistant NILs. We suggest that pyramiding of the blast resistance gene Pi9 with Pi54 will lead to maximum broad spectrum resistance to M. oryzae. Not Availabl
Review of Rasashastra Dravya in Classical text of Ayurveda - Kashyap Samhita
Ayurveda is science of life. Ayurveda not only focuses on curing of diseased individual but also gives importance to maintenance of health of healthy person.Ayurveda is basically divided in Ashtangas (Eight Appendages). All these Ashtangas represents specific field of expertise in Ayurveda context. Out of these eight, Kaumarbhritya is field related to care of children. Kashyap Samhita is considered as the masterpiece of texts related to Kaumarbhritya. Kashyap Samhita was written by Acharya Kashyap, in the same time during which Charak Samhita was written.Rasashastra is study of use of metallic and mineral compounds for preparation of mineral & herbomineral formulations. References of Rasashastra being a specialty are found in classical texts since 800 A.D. But, there are some references scattered in various Samhitas regarding use of Rasashastra Dravyas. Kashyap Samhita being one of the old Samhitas is also not an exception to this. In this review article, an attempt was made regarding unveiling the references of Rasashastra Dravya in Kashyap Samhita and it was noted that a lot of references of Rasashastra Dravya are there in Kashyap Samhita in form of either internal administration or external application or for giving Drushtant (example).Â
