Maintenance of dissolved oxygen at saturated level will help the growth and reproduction of normal population of fish and other aquatic organisms1,2. Due to increase of industries, it is necessary to monitor the DO level of water resources. This will help us to understand the present condition of water at various resources that are connected to the industries. In this study the water is collected from various resources around Sundarapuram in coimbatore district and they were subjected to dissolved oxygen study. The DO results of various samples were compared with DO of demineralised water which is taken as reference. Parameters such as temperature, hardness and aeration time that will affect the saturation level of DO are also discussed 6,7,8.Â

ABSTRACTObjective: The present study was undertaken to establish the antineoplastic potential of Annona reticulata on human cancer cell lines, viz., squamouscell carcinoma 9 (SCC9), MCF-7 (human breast adenocarcinoma), A549 (lung adenocarcinoma), and HCT116 (colorectal carcinoma) cells. Methods: The study was performed through MTT, cell cycle (G2M), and DNA fragmentation assays. Cells inhibited in MTT assay were subjected to cellcycle analysis and DNA fragmentation, respectively. Results: The extracts showed dose-dependent growth inhibition of SCC9, MCF-7, A549, and HCT116 cells. In contrast to HCT116 and A549 cells, which exhibited cytotoxicity at a higher concentration with IC50 value of 271.7 and 296 µg/ml, the extract treated SCC9 and MCF-7 cells exhibitedsignificant cytotoxicity at a lower concentration with IC50 value of 49.47 and 52.65 µg/ml, respectively. The treated A549 and MCF-7 cells showed cellcycle arrest up to 7.07% and 14.42%, respectively, at G2/M phase of cell cycle. DNA fragmentation was not observed in both A549 and MCF-7 cellstreated with A. reticulata extract at a concentration of 320 µg/ml.Conclusion: Encouraging preliminary results emphasize the necessity for further research on characterization of individual compounds from thisextract and advocate it as a good source of anticancer agent for certain types of cancer. Keywords: Annona reticulata, Anticancer activity, MTT, G2M and DNA fragmentation

Ground Water Quality Assessment in Paper Mill Effluent Irrigated Area - Using Multivariate Statistical Analysis

    Get PDF
Paper mill effluent while flowing, percolates through soil and slowly mixes with ground water bodies (Open well), water samples were collected from three stations (S1, S2 and S3) in and around paper mill. This paper represents the characteristics of ground water quality and the effect of paper mill effluent, which is using recycled water for irrigation and domestic purpose. Cluster analysis (CA), principal component analysis (PCA) and multidimensional scale plot (MDS) appear were employed to evaluate the tropic status of water quality for three monitoring stations. High pollution load was observed in the ground water bodies due to continuous flow of effluent near the ground water sources. Effluent water consists of 3400 mg/l suspended solids. However, pH varied from 5.5-7.6. The biochemical oxygen demand and chemical oxygen demand ranged from 2-780 and 60 - 1520 mg/l respectively. SAR, RSC and SSP level was high from S2 and S3, both were unsuitable for both domestic and irrigation purposes. An elevated coliform bacterial count indicates that these water samples S2 and S3 were not suitable for domestic purpose. The dendrogram of the effluent water quality parameters evidently indicate that Maruthi Paper mill does not meet nominal National standard set by central pollution control board to discharge in agricultural fiel

Active Vibration Control of Structures using an Impedance Matching Control Technique

Active vibration control of structures has gained a lot of interest in recent years. This paper presents an active vibration control methodology of a structure using piezoelectric actuators. The proposed methodology is useful in practical applications where the system to be controlled is difficult to model due to the presence of complex boundary conditions. The impedance matching control technique uses a power flow approach wherein the controller is designed such that the power flow into the structure is minimized. The system transfer function is obtained from the experimental collocated actuator/sensor pair data using Eigen Realisation Algorithm (ERA). The controller is designed for the system transfer function according to impedance matching theory. The above approach is targeted towards the vibration control of wind tunnel stings, which suffer from flow-induced vibration. A wind tunnel sting model is designed and fabricated for this study. The real time implementation of the impedance matching controller has been carried out using dSPACE® Digital Signal Processor (DSP) card. The results are encouraging and demonstrate the feasibility of applying this technique in the wind tunne

A fuzzy mathematical model was developed and used this model to calculate the expected mean and variance of Corticosterone level in the given time interval after lights onsets Releasing Hormone treatment. Formulae of fuzzy Exponential distribution and its α-cut sets were presented. Using fuzzy Exponential distribution, we showed that if the Lower α-cut of Mean and variance are increases when different alpha values and upper α-cut of Mean and variance are increases when different alpha values with respect to the time intervals
