The effects of the addition of Sepiolite for Pig Liquid Feeding (SPLF) at 1% on growing performance and carcass quality of heavy pigs fed practical diets were evaluated by using 330 Duroc x (Landrace x Large White) pigs, half castrated males and half females, from 63.5 to 170 kg body weight

Synthesis of natural maleimides farinomaleins C–E and evaluation of their antifungal activity

Get PDF
A practical and convenient synthesis of naturally occurring farinomaleins C–E was achieved starting from readily available ethyl 3-methyl-2-oxobutyrate and triethyl phosphonoacetate. The key steps of the sequence included a Horner–Wadsworth–Emmons condensation to obtain the precursor farinomalein A and coupling with suitable alcohols to install the chain. The synthesis of farinomalein D has been achieved starting from (R)-isopropylideneglycerol on the basis of which the S configuration was assigned to the natural compound. The antifungal activity of the synthesized compounds was evaluated against Cladosporium cladosporioides

Relationship of the Median and Radial Nerves at the Elbow: Application to Avoiding Injury During Venipuncture or Other Invasive Procedures of the Cubital Fossa.

Get PDF
INTRODUCTION: The median and radial nerves are two important neural structures found in the cubital fossa. The trajectory and landmarks used to identify their location are important when procedures are done in this area. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Ten fresh-frozen cadavers were dissected (20 upper limbs) and measurements were taken from the medial epicondyle to the median and radial nerves as well as to the lateral epicondyle of each limb. RESULTS: The distance between the medial epicondyle and the median nerve was found to be three centimeters with a range of 2.1 to four centimeters and the distance from the medial epicondyle to the radial nerve had a mean distance of 5.5 cm and a range of 3.8 to seven centimeters. DISCUSSION: Damage to the median or radial nerves can lead to major complications including loss of extension, flexion, and sensation in the forearm and hand. Other studies have tried to identify the course of these nerves in order to prevent their injury during procedures. CONCLUSION: After identifying the medial epicondyle, using the results we obtained, physicians may have a better understanding of where the median and radial nerves lie within the cubital fossa when performing procedures in this area

The utilization of medicinal plants is the local wisdom of the people of Waesano Village, Sanonggoang, West Manggarai Regency. Local wisdom is a form of culture that can be defined as the whole system of ideas, action, and results of human’s work in social life that is possessed through learning. This qualitative research that was carried out in Waesano Village, Sanonggang, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, uses communication ethnographic method to explain the connection between categories in the research. Ethnography of communication seeks to portray human ways of life. This study aim to reveal ritual communication in Waesano Village which play a role the enculturation of local wisdom in the use of medicinal plants. Research result prove that local wisdom in form of the utilization of medicinal plants consists of identifying the variant of a medicinal plant, how to pick, how to process, and consumption dose. Inheritance or enculturation of a local wisdom in form of medicinal plant utilization is through ritual communication such as between father and child, parents-in-law and children-in-law. Another form of communication which plays a role in the enculturation process are students that receive medicinal plant lesson from teacher who teaches Local Content subject of Environmental Education and Conservation. Having the variety of communication processes, the local wisdoms are expected to be able to survive in Waesano

Osborne\u27s Ligament: A Review of its History, Anatomy, and Surgical Importance.

Get PDF
When discussing the pathophysiology of ulnar neuropathy, Geoffrey Vaughan Osborne described a fibrous band that can be responsible for the symptoms seen in this disorder. In this paper, we take a glimpse at the life of Osborne and review the anatomy and surgical significance of Osborne\u27s ligament. This band of tissue connects the two heads of the flexor carpi ulnaris and thus forms the roof of the cubital tunnel. To our knowledge, no prior publication has reviewed the history of this ligament, and very few authors have studied its anatomy in any detail. Therefore, the aim of the present paper is to elucidate this structure that is often implicated and surgically transected to decompress the ulnar nerve at the elbow
