Biomedical Waste Management – A Review
Bio-medical waste is generated mainly by health care establishments. The management of Bio-medical waste is still infant all across the world. It consists of Bio-medical waste as well as chemical waste with a portion of solid waste. This is a review paper which is prepared from the surveys of various research papers on improper biomedical waste. This research article is to survey the practice of biomedical waste such as collection, storage, transportation and disposal along with the amount of generated biomedical waste in various hospitals. Biomedical waste management is one of the biggest challenges of the present day times. It has a direct impact on the health of the citizen of that city. It is hazardous in nature. It’s safe and proper disposal is extremely important. As in many developing countries the generation of biomedical waste has increased significantly over the last few decades, management of this kind of waste continues to be a major challenge. Biomedical waste is generated in hospitals, research institutions, health care teaching institutes, clinics, laboratories, blood banks, animal houses and veterinary institutes. For proper management of bio-medical waste the Ministry of Environment and Forests has promulgated the Bio-Medical Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 1998. Purpose of study was to highlight certain aspects of hospital waste management status. This paper will sensitize the reader about the impacts of improper waste management. Proper handling, treatment and disposal of the biomedical waste material are most important issue for the health of the human beings. The inadequate knowledge about the proper handling of biomedical waste can be dangerous to the health of common man as well as of health care personnel. Design Principles for Two-Dimensional Molecular Aggregates Using Kasha's Model: Tunable Photophysics in Near and Short-Wave Infrared

which utilize near-infrared (700 – 1000 nm) and short-wave infrared (1000 –
2000 nm) electromagnetic radiation have applications in deep-tissue imaging,
telecommunications and satellite telemetry due to low scattering and decreased
background signal in this spectral region. It is therefore necessary to develop
materials that absorb light efficiently beyond 1000 nm. Transition dipole
moment coupling (e.g. J-aggregation) allows for redshifted excitonic states and
provides a pathway to highly absorptive electronic states in the infrared. We present aggregates of two cyanine dyes whose
absorption peaks redshift dramatically upon aggregation in water from ~800
nm to 1000 nm and 1050 nm respectively with sheet-like morphologies and high
molar absorptivities (e ~ 105 M-1cm-1). We use Frenkel exciton theory to extend
Kasha’s model for J and H aggregation and describe the excitonic states of
2-dimensional aggregates whose slip is controlled by steric hindrance in the
assembled structure. A consequence of the increased dimensionality is the
phenomenon of an intermediate “I-aggregate”, one which redshifts yet displays
spectral signatures of band-edge dark states akin to an H-aggregate. We
distinguish between H-, I- and J-aggregates by showing the relative position of
the bright (absorptive) state within the density of states using temperature
dependent spectroscopy. I-aggregates hold potential for applications as charge
injection moieties for semiconductors and donors for energy transfer in NIR and
SWIR. Our results can be used to better design chromophores with predictable
and tunable aggregation with new photophysical properties
Great Inequality of Jupiter and Saturn I: The Planetary Three Body Problem, Heliocentric development by Lagrange multipliers, Perturbation Theory Formulation
In this paper, we undertake to present a self-contained and thorough analysis
of the gravitational three body problem, with anticipated application to the
Great Inequality of Jupiter and Saturn. The analysis of the three body
Lagrangian is very convenient in heliocentric coordinates with Lagrange
multipliers, the coordinates being the vector-sides of
the triangle that the bodies form. In two dimensions to begin with, the
equations of motion are formulated into a dynamical system for the polar angles
, angular momenta and eccentricity vectors . The
dynamical system is simplified considerably by change of variables to certain
auxiliary vector . We then begin to formulate
the Hamiltonian perturbation theory of the problem, now in three dimensions. We
first give the geometric definitions for the Delaunay action-angle variables of
the two body problem. We express the three body Hamiltonian in terms of
Delaunay variables in each sector , revealing that it is a nearly
integrable Hamiltonian. We then present the KAM theory perturbative approach
that will be followed in future work, including the modification that will be
required because the Hamiltonian is degenerate
Evaluation of used eye drop containers for microbial contamination in outpatient department of tertiary care teaching hospital
Background: Contaminated eyedrops are considered as serious risk factor for many iatrogenic ocular infections. Apart from the risk of infection, microbial contamination may alter the pH of the solution thereby reducing the efficacy of drugs. Presently many preservatives are added to these eye drops preparations to extend the duration of use. Hence authors aimed this study to find the contamination rates in such eye drop preparations.Methods: This was a prospective observational research conducted at Ophthalmology OPD, of tertiary care teaching hospital for the period of 2 months. Total fifty five used eyedrops were collected.Results: Authors found that 25.45% of the collected eye drops were contaminated with various organisms, viz. E. coli (10.90%), Staphylococcus aureus (9.09%), Pseudomonas aerugenosa (1.81%), Bacillus subtilis (1.81%) and Candida albicans (1.81%). Among various eyedrops, mydriatic (60%) eyedrops had the highest rate of contamination. We also found that, different preservatives in the eye drops were presents with different level of microbial contamination.Conclusions: The present study showed that there is a definite co-occurrence between eyedrop contamination and ocular infections irrespective of preservatives. This research raises a concern about questionable efficacy of preservatives.
Accurate estimations of circumstellar and interstellar lines of quadruply ionized vanadium using the coupled cluster approach
Accurate {\it ab initio} calculations have been carried out to study the
valence electron removal energies and oscillator strengths of astrophysically
important electromagnetic transitions of quadruply ionized vanadium, .
Many important electron correlations are considered to all-orders using the
relativistic coupled-cluster theory. Calculated ionization potentials and fine
structure splittings are compared with the experimental values, wherever
available. To our knowledge, oscillator strengths of electric dipole
transitions are predicted for the first time for most of the transitions. The
transitions span in the range of ultraviolet, visible and near infrared regions
and are important for astrophysical observations.Comment: Submitted in Astrophysical

The manufacture of steel involves a large number of processing which lead to complex problems of environme-ntal pollution. Coke making and sintering are two of the major areas in so far as pollution is concerned. Slag constitutes the major portion of solid wastes. Waste generation adversely affects productivity and contributes to the high cost of production. It has been shown that improving the efficiency of operation and fuel saving measures help in reducing pollution in steel plants.
