    Involutive orbits of non-Noether symmetry groups

    We consider set of functions on Poisson manifold related by continues one-parameter group of transformations. Class of vector fields that produce involutive families of functions is investigated and relationship between these vector fields and non-Noether symmetries of Hamiltonian dynamical systems is outlined.     Generalization of the modified KdV equation to a multi-component system, that is expressed by (ui)/(t)+6(j,k=0M1Cjkujuk)(ui)/(x)+(3ui)/(x3)=0,i=0,1,...,M1(\partial u_i)/(\partial t) + 6 (\sum_{j,k=0}^{M-1} C_{jk} u_j u_k) (\partial u_i)/(\partial x) + (\partial^3 u_{i})/(\partial x^3) = 0, i=0, 1, ..., M-1 , is studied. We apply a new extended version of the inverse scattering method to this system. It is shown that this system has an infinite number of conservation laws and multi-soliton solutions.     Important pharmacogenetic information for drugs prescribed during the SARS-CoV-2 infection (COVID-19)

    In December 2019, the severe acute respiratory syndrome virus-2 pandemic began, causing the coronavirus disease 2019. A vast variety of drugs is being used off-label as potential therapies. Many of the repurposed drugs have clinical pharmacogenetic guidelines available with therapeutic recommendations when prescribed as indicated on the drug label.     Modelling UK house prices with structural breaks and conditional variance analysis

    This paper differs from previous research by examining the existence of structural breaks in the UK regional house prices as well as in the prices of the different property types (flats, terraced, detached and semi-detached houses) in the UK as a whole, motivated by the uncertainty in the UK housing market and various financial events that may lead to structural changes within the housing market. Our paper enhances the conventional unit root tests by allowing for structural breaks, while including structural break tests strengthens our analysis. Our empirical results support the existence of structural breaks in the mean equation in seven out of thirteen regions of the UK as well as in three out of four property types, and in the variance equation in six regions and three property types. In addition, using a multivariate GARCH approach we examine both the behaviour of variances and covariances of the house price returns over time. Our results have significant implications for appropriate economic policy selection and investment management

    Reconciling the stratigraphy and depositional history of the Lycian orogen-top basins, SW Anatolia

    Terrestrial fossil records from the SWAnatolian basins are crucial both for regional correlations and palaeoenvironmental reconstructions. By reassessing biostratigraphic constraints and incorporating new fossil data, we calibrated and reconstructed the late Neogene andQuaternary palaeoenvironments within a regional palaeogeographical framework. The culmination of the Taurides inSWAnatolia was followed by a regional crustal extension from the late Tortonian onwards that created a broad array of NE-trending orogen-top basins with synchronic associations of alluvial fan, fluvial and lacustrine deposits. The terrestrial basins are superimposed on the upper Burdigalian marine units with a c. 7 myr of hiatus that corresponds to a shift from regional shortening to extension. The initial infill of these basins is documented by a transition from marginal alluvial fans and axial fluvial systems into central shallow-perennial lakes coinciding with a climatic shift from warm/humid to arid conditions. The basal alluvial fan deposits abound in fossil macro-mammals of an early Turolian (MN11–12; late Tortonian) age.     Gördes: a new early Miocene micromammal assemblage from western Anatolia

    The mammal locality of Gördes is only known from its test sample, as it has been subsequently destroyed. This small sample yielded a surprisingly rich assemblage, with five rodent species, four species of insectivore and a bat. Based on the rodent contents, the assemblage is assigned to Anatolian mammal zone D, equivalent to MN 3. One of the rodent species, Eumyarion gordesensis nov. sp. is new. Both the cricetid Deperetomys and the glirid Glirudinus represent a hitherto unknown evolutionary stadium and have been assigned to D. aff. intermedius and G. aff. haramiensis, respectively. Based on the relatively high diversity of insectivores, the presence of a dimylid and the dominance of Eumyarion, the Gördes assemblage presumably represents a closed, humid environment. © 2018, Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung and Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature

    VTPin: Practical VTable hijacking protection for binaries

    VTable hijacking has lately been promoted to the de facto technique for exploiting C++ applications, and in particular web browsers. VTables, however, can be manipulated without necessarily corrupting memory, simply by leveraging use-after-free bugs. In fact, in the recent Pwn2Own competitions all major web browsers were compromised with exploits that employed (among others) use-afterfree vulnerabilities and VTable hijacking. In this paper, we propose VTPin: a system to protect against VTable hijacking, via use-after-free vulnerabilities, in large C++ binaries that cannot be re-compiled or re-written. The main idea behind VTPin is to pin all the freed VTable pointers on a safe VTable under VTPin's control. Specifically, for every object deallocation, VTPin deallocates all space allocated, but preserves and updates the VTable pointer with the address of the safe VTable. Hence, any dereferenced dangling pointer can only invoke a method provided by VTPin's safe object. Subsequently, all virtual-method calls due to dangling pointers are not simply neutralized, but they can be logged, tracked, and patched. Compared to other solutions that defend against VTable hijacking, VTPin exhibits certain characteristics that make it suitable for practical and instant deployment in production software. First, VTPin protects binaries, directly and transparently, without requiring source compilation or binary rewriting. Second, VTPin is not an allocator replacement, and thus it does not interfere with the allocation strategies and policies of the protected program; it intervenes in the deallocation process only when a virtual object is to be freed for preserving the VTable pointer. Third, VTPin is fast; Mozilla Firefox, protected with VTPin, experiences an average overhead of 1%-4.1% when running popular browser benchmarks
