This paper presents some results of magnetoresistance measurements on Kr-sputter-deposited Co/Cu multilayers. We find that Co/Cu MLs sputtered with Kr gas show a larger GMR effect than those sputtered with Ar gas
Charge fluctuations and boundary conditions of biological ion channels:effect on the ionic transition rate
A self-consistent solution is derived for the Poisson-Nernst-Planck (PNP) equation, valid both inside a biological ion channel and in the adjacent bulk fluid. An iterative procedure is used to match the two solutions together at the channel mouth. Charge fluctuations at the mouth are modeled as shot noise flipping the height of the potential barrier at the selectivity site. The resultant estimates of the conductivity of the ion channel are in good agreement with Gramicidin experimental measurements and they reproduce the observed current saturation with increasing concentration

Evidence suggests that small-scale food animal producers often employ the use of antimicrobials to improve the survival and growth of their animals, and that this practice leads to the development of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) that can potentially spread to humans. Description of nuclear octupole and quadrupole deformation close to the axial symmetry: Octupole vibrations in the X(5) nuclei 150Nd and 152Sm
The model, introduced in a previous paper, for the description of the
octupole and quadrupole degrees of freedom in conditions close to the axial
symmetry, is used to describe the negative-parity band based on the first
octupole vibrational state in nuclei close to the critical point of the U(5) to
SU(3) phase transition. The situation of 150Nd and 152Sm is discussed in
detail. The positive parity levels of these nuclei, and also the in-band E2
transitions, are reasonably accounted for by the X(5) model. With simple
assumptions on the nature of the octupole vibrations, it is possible to
describe, with comparable accuracy, also the negative parity sector, without
changing the description of the positive-parity part.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure
