QMM. A Quarterly Macroeconomic Model of the Icelandic Economy

    Get PDF
This paper documents and describes Version 2.0 of the Quarterly Macroeconomic Model of the Central Bank of Iceland (QMM). QMM and the underlying quarterly database have been under construction since 2001 at the Research and Forecasting Division of the Economics Department at the Bank and was first implemented in the forecasting round for the Monetary Bulletin 2006.1 in March 2006. QMM is used by the Bank for forecasting and various policy simulations and therefore plays a key role as an organisational framework for viewing the medium-term future when formulating monetary policy at the Bank. This paper is mainly focused on the short and medium-term properties of QMM. Steady state properties of the model are documented in a paper by Daníelsson (2009).

Effect of dietary seaweed supplementation in cows on milk macrominerals, trace elements, and heavy metal concentrations

This study investigated the effect of seaweed supplementation in dairy cow diets on milk yield, basic composition, and mineral concentrations. 37 Icelandic cows were split into 3 diet treatments: control (CON, no seaweed), low-seaweed (LSW, 0.75% concentrate dry matter (DM), 13-40 g/cow/day), (iii) high-seaweed (HSW, 1.5% concentrate DM, 26-158g/cow/day). Cows were fed the same basal diet of grass silage and concentrate for a week, and then were introduced to the assigned experimental diets for 6 weeks. The seaweed mix of 91% Ascophyllum nodosum:9% Laminaria digitata (DM basis), feed, and milk samples were collected weekly. Data was analyzed using a linear mixed effects model, with diet, week, and their interaction as fixed factors, cow ID as random factor, and the pre-treatment week data as a covariate. When compared with CON milk, LSW and HSW milk had, respectively, less Se (-1.4 and -3.1 μg/kg milk) and more I (+744 and +1649 μg/kg milk); while HSW milk also had less Cu (-11.6 μg/kg milk) and more As (+0.17 μg/kg milk) than CON milk. The minimal changes or concentrations in milk for Se, Cu, and As cannot be associated to any effects on consumer nutrition, but care should be taken when I-rich seaweed is fed to cows, to avoid excessive animal I supply and milk I concentrations

Population-based screening for MGUS could identify candidates for early treatment in MM. Here we describe the Iceland Screens, Treats, or Prevents Multiple Myeloma study (iStopMM), the first population-based screening study for MGUS including a randomized trial of follow-up strategies. Icelandic residents born before 1976 were offered participation. Blood samples are collected alongside blood sampling in the Icelandic healthcare system. Participants with MGUS are randomized to three study arms. Arm 1 is not contacted, arm 2 follows current guidelines, and arm 3 follows a more intensive strategy. Participants who progress are offered early treatment. Samples are collected longitudinally from arms 2 and 3 for the study biobank. All participants repeatedly answer questionnaires on various exposures and outcomes including quality of life and psychiatric health. National registries on health are cross-linked to all participants. Of the 148,704 individuals in the target population, 80 759 (54.3%) provided informed consent for participation. With a very high participation rate, the data from the iStopMM study will answer important questions on MGUS, including potentials harms and benefits of screening. The study can lead to a paradigm shift in MM therapy towards screening and early therapy.Black Swan Research Initiative by the International Myeloma Foundation Icelandic Centre for Research European Research Council (ERC) University of Iceland Landspitali University Hospita

Ýmislegt hefur komið upp á á þessum tíma en þó hefur aldrei neinn farið í hjartastopp á þinni vakt. Þú veist að það getur komið að því og veltir fyrir þér hvort þú hafir næga þekkingu í endurlífgun. Hafa viðbrögð við hjartastoppi verið æfð á þinni deild? Hefur þú fengið fræðslu um nýjustu leiðbeiningarnar í endurlífgun? Ert þú sem hjúkrunarfræðingur örugg/ur þegar svona stendur á? Svarið við síðustu spurningunni er yfirleitt nei. Hjúkrunarfræðingum finnst þeir oft og tíðum ekki hafa nægilega þekkingu í endurlífgun og myndu gjarnan vilja fá meiri fræðslu og æfingu í þessum mikilvæga málaflokki þar sem mannslífin eru að veði
