RELATIVISM IN THE SOCIOLOGY OF KNOWLEDGE

This study is going to investigate the problem of relativism in the writings of Karl Mannheim and David Bloor. These two scholars are important confessors of the sociology of knowledge. Mannheim began to apply the notion of relationism instead of relativism. Some critics believed to understand this object, others talked about the lack of real differences. My first aim is to differentiate these notions and to provide acceptable reasons why Mannheim chose relationism. The second question I want to answer is what David Bloor meant by relativism. Is he a traditional relativist, or does he use the methodology of relationism though he is not explicit about it

Magyarország népessége a 18. század végén (Az első népszámlálás kritikai kiadása) II. Dunántúl és Alföld = The population of Hungary at the end of 18th century. (The first census of Hungary - a critical edition.) Part 2. Transdanubia and the Great Hungarian Plain.

A kutatás célkitűzése az 1784 - 1787. évi népszámlálás településsoros forráskiadásának folytatása volt, most az Alföld és a Dunántúl 4615 településének adatát közöltük. A közlés során megtartottuk a rovatok és települések eredeti rendjét és kiegészítettük azokat néhány számított adattal. További célunk volt a forrás teljes körűségének és pontosságának ellenőrzése. Mindezt helységnévtárak és Lipszky repertóriumának segítségével végeztük: 4615 népszámlálási adatsorunkat 8000 egyéb gépbe táplált adattsorral vetettük össze. Az eredmény a forrás meglepő pontosságát bizonyítja a területi lefedettség tekintetében. Az adatok hitelességét három lépcsőben ellenőriztük. Először a makroadatokat vizsgáltuk meg, majd három régió mintegy 800 települését két időmetszetben (1785 és 1787) vetettük össze egymással. Ez a vizsgálat is viszonylag jó eredménnyel zárult. A harmadik megközelítés kontrollszámítások segítségével (abszolút számok és demográfiai mutatók) igyekezett kiszűrni azokat a településeket, ahol szembetűnő adathibák találhatóak. Ahol ilyenre leltünk ott mérlegelés alapján javítottunk. (Az eredeti értékeket a megjegyzés rovatba tettük át.) Amennyiben a hiba mértéke nem bizonyult eldönthetőnek, akkor csak az adattal szembeni kétségeinket jeleztük. Eredményeinket a felsorolt publikációkon túl számos hazai és külföldi előadásban ismertettük. A jelentéshez mellékelt kéziratot a települések 1913. évi hivatalos neveivel való azonosítás után CR ROM formában - mely az adatok letöltését és a közlés rendjének átalakítását is lehetővé teszi - kívánjuk szélesebb körben hasznosítani. | The research is a source publication of the first census in 1784 - 1787 about the Great Plain and Transdanubia. We kept the original order of the settlements as well as the headings of the datasets, even expanded it with some calculated values. Our further aim was to control the completeness and the accuracy of the source. For this reason we have compared our 4615 dataset with 8000 others taking from different volumes of gazetteers referring to the late 18th century. The result of the control was proved the surprisingly good level of settlement coverage in the census. The accuracy of our datasets was controlled on three level. First we analyzed the macro level datasets, then we made a comparison between two datasets (taken from 1785 and 1787) of 800 settlements in three regions. This investigation proved to be successful too. Our third control work was to separate the settlements with improper data with the help of checking the absolute figures and the demographic indices. The wrong data was either rectified after consideration or giving a remark about the problematic value of the data. (Original figures or remarks were put into the observation column.) Our results were presented in publications and numerous lectures giving them in conferences and round tables in Hungary and abroad. The final version of the manuscript - supplemented with the official settlement names of the gazetteer in 1913 - is planned in CD ROM format. This form will give the possibility of download as well the change of the dataset order within the publication for the users

Measurement of turbulence properties

The aim of the research is to investigate anisotropic turbulence intensities, id est to investigate the distribution of Reynolds stresses and energy spectra in a square cross-section channel, downstream of a semi-active jet turbulence grid generating anisotropic turbulent airflow. In addition to the semi-active jet turbulence grid, another type of turbulence grid was developed and experimentally investigated. This grid contains vertical, flexible strips of aluminum (in this case, there are no perpendicular (horizontal) grid elements), which vibrate at a frequency depending on the velocity of the main airflow. Besides the investigation of the velocity- and turbulence intensity distributions, another main objective of the research is to measure the von Kármán energy spectrum when the turbulence cannot be considered isotropic. This aspiration of ours is justified by the knowledge gap present in the literature in this specific field. Monin has carried out a theoretical study to extend and generalize the von Kármán – Howarth isotropic principal stress equation to the anisotropic regime. The proposed new experimental work aims to provide a solid experimental background for verifying and validating the physical correctness of the Monin equation, which may result in a new theoretical understanding and perception of the major issues and the nature of anisotropic turbulence. Since the anisotropic energy spectra are expected to exhibit different characteristics from the isotropic Kolmogorov spectra, these new experimental results may contribute to the development of new anisotropic and engineering turbulence models that can be used in industrial applications

Demokrácia az információs társadalomban

A tanulmány a demokrácia helyzetét elemezi az információs társadalom időszakában. Az elemzés során feltárulnak a demokratikus intézményrendszer korlátai, fény derül arra, hogy mennyiben támogatják a hálózatok a szabadságjogok gyakorlását jelenleg, és milyen eddig kiaknázatlan lehetőségeket rejt még magában. A tanulmány azt mutatja be, hogy a politika mennyiben befolyásolja az egyes demokratikus szabadságjogokat. Az írás azt is számba veszi, hogy az információs társadalom szakirodalmának jelentősebb alakjai milyen demokrácia fogalmakkal dolgoztak vízióik vagy elemzéseik megfogalmazásakor. Végül elemzésre kerül az is, hogy a politika miért van lépéshátrányban az információs társadalmak technokultúrális közegéhez képest

„Az információs társadalom dimenziói” címmel a Gondolat-Infonia kiadásában megjelent tanulmánykötetről készült recenzió a könyvnek nemcsak tartalmi, hanem formai jellemzőit is értékeli. A szerkesztő az információs társadalom magyar nyelvű szakirodalmából válogatott. Jól sikerült és tudományosan gyengén megalapozott művek egyaránt olvashatók a tematikailag egyébként jól szerkesztett kötetben. A Nagy Elméletek iránti vágy ismét lázba hozott egyes társadalomkutatókat, de e cél elérésére a közeljövőben – a kötet összes erényét figyelembe véve is – aligha van lehetőség
