Characterization of the Earwig, Doru lineare, as a Predator of Larvae of the Fall Armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda: A Functional Response Study

Spodoptera frugiperda Smith (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is considered as the most important pest of maize in almost all tropical America. In Argentina, the earwig Doru lineare Eschscholtz (Dermaptera: Forficulidae) has been observed preying on S. frugiperda egg masses in corn crops, but no data about its potential role as a biocontrol agent of this pest have been provided. The predation efficiency of D. lineare on newly emerged S. frugiperda larva was evaluated through a laboratory functional response study. D. lineare showed type II functional response to S. frugiperda larval density, and disc equation estimations of searching efficiency and handling time were (a) = 0.374 and (t) = 182.9 s, respectively. Earwig satiation occurred at 39.4 S. frugiperda larvae

    Modular deployable structures

Large aperture antennas and telescopes, long baselines and long focal lengths in space have important applications for Telecommunications, Earth Observation and Science missions. Within this context, an ESA TRP activity is currently under development, carried out by COMET Ingeniería, PROSIX Engineering and Airbus DS (CASA Espacio), with the aim of designing overall structural assemblies based on unit cells developing representative parts of deployable masts (linear structures) and rings (antenna or radiotelescope aperture). This paper presents the current status of this project and the results obtained until the date of presentation of this paper. The results of these paper will be confirmed during next PDR to be celebrated at ESA-ESTEC

TRATAMIENTO COMBINADO INTERVENCIONISTA Y QUIRÚRGICO EN PACIENTES PEDIÁTRICOS CON TETRALOGÍA DE FALLOT / Combined interventional and surgical treatment in pediatric patients with tetralogy of Fallot

Abstract In tetralogy of Fallot with hypoplastic pulmonary arteries, an alternative to avoid palliative surgeries is percutaneous pulmonary valvuloplasty using a balloon catheter. When there are major arteriovenous collaterals producing volume overload of the left chambers, their previous occlusion improves surgical outcomes. Two patients with aorto-pulmonary collaterals, closed in the laboratory of hemodynamics 24 hours before surgery, and two children who underwent pulmonary valve dilation and then surgery, seven and nine months afterwards, respectively, are reported. Mean follow-up was five years without complications. Interventional catheterization techniques before surgery for tetralogy of Fallot are feasible and can help reduce the number of palliations and improve the results of surgical correction of the disease in selected cases
