    Investigation of Tractor Dealer Profile in Aydın Province

    Tractor sales and usage varies depending on many factors like of the region and the products. The main purpose of this study is to investigate of sales and marketing profiles of tractor dealers operating in Aydın Province. Survey form was conducted through face to face interviews to authorized tractor dealers operating in Aydın Province (14 total). Data about firms (number of employees, brand preferences, customer portfolio, marketing campaigns, marketing calanders, approach to the expected scrap reduction and customer’s brand expectations) were obtained with questionnaires. Half of the dealers are selling the tractors produced by domestic firms. The brands ranking which are most preferred by dealers, first is New Holland (42%) and the second is Turk-Fiat (35%). Dealers stated that, the most important criteria for customers' preferences are engine parts and price and the most intense period for sales is spring. Results of this study are, state-sector cooperation must be developed in order to increase competitiveness of the Turkish firms in the tractor market, modern marketing tecniques must be used, consumer behaviors must be determined and the firms which makes sales according to these factors must improve themselves for the future of the tractor industry.     Mapping of QTLs for leaf area and the association with winter hardiness in fall-sown lentil

    Variations in plant architecture are often associated with the ability of plants to survive cold stress during winter. In studies of winter hardiness in lentil, it appeared that small leaf area was associated with improved winter survival. Based on this observation, the inheritance of leaf area and the relationship with winter hardiness using an F6 - derived recombinant inbred line (RIL) population from the cross of WA8649090 x Precoz was investigated. The WA8649090 parent was winter hardy and had small leaves, while the Precoz parent was non-winter hardy and had large leaves. The 106 RILs and the parents were planted in a field in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Leaf area(cm2) of leaves from the fourth node was measured using a flatbed scanner and WinRHIZO software. Average leaf area for WA8649090 was 0.46 cm2, while leaf area for Precoz was 0.89 cm2. Average leaf area of the RILs was 0.63 cm2, and the frequency distribution was continuous, indicating the effects of more than one gene. Quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis using a 130-point linkage map revealed one major QTL on linkage group 6 which explained 20.45% of the phenotypic variation for leaf area. The location of QTL for leaf area mapped the same region where one of the QTL for winter hardiness was mapped and significant association (r2 = 0.750, P< 0.01) was found between leaf area and winter hardiness. These results indicated an association between winter hardiness and leaf area that provides information applicable to lentil breeding.Keywords: Leaf area, lentil, recombinant inbred line (RIL), QTL mapping, winter hardines

    Superlinear Increase of Photocurrent due to Stimulated Scattering into a Polariton Condensate

    We show that when a monopolar current is passed through an n-i-n structure, superlinear photocurrent response occurs when there is a polariton condensate. This is in sharp contrast to the previously observed behavior for a standard semiconductor laser. Theoretical modeling shows that this is due to a stimulated exciton-exciton scattering process in which one exciton relaxes into the condensate, while another one dissociates into an electron-hole pair.Comment: 17 pages with 10 figure

    Interleukin (IL)–12 and IL-23 Are Key Cytokines for Immunity against Salmonella in Humans

    Patients with inherited deficiency of the interleukin (IL)–12/IL-23–interferon (IFN)–g axis show increased susceptibility to invasive disease caused by the intramacrophage pathogens salmonellae and mycobacteria. We analyzed data on 154 patients with such deficiency. Significantly more patients with IL-12/IL-23–component deficiency had a history of salmonella disease than did those with IFN-g–component deficiency. Salmonella disease was typically severe, extraintestinal, and caused by nontyphoidal serovars. These findings strongly suggest that IL-12/IL-23 is a key cytokine for immunity against salmonella in humans and that IL-12/IL-23 mediates this protective effect partly through IFN-g–independent pathways. Investigation of the IL-12/IL-23–IFN-g axis should be considered in patients with invasive salmonella disease

    Increased serum procalcitonin levels in pregnant patients with asymptomatic bacteriuria

    Background: Among the pregnancy urinary tract infections, asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB) is the most common one. Untreated ASB can progress to pyelonephritis in 30-50% of the patients and can also result in prematurity in 27% of the pregnancy so it needs immediate diagnosis and treatment. In this study, we wanted to evaluate procalcitonin levels, compared to other inflammatory in pregnant women with ASB.Methods: The study was designed between the period of January 2012 and February 2013 at Sakarya University School of Medicine, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. The study population included 30 pregnant patients with asymptomatic bacteriuria and 39 healthy pregnant controls.Results: Mean age was 28 (SD, 5.5) of the study population; mean maternal weight was 70 (SD, 8) kilogram. There were no statically significant differences between the groups according to the routine biochemical parameters, but gestational age was significantly lower in the ASB group compared to the controls (20.4 vs 28.6, respectively; p 0.05 ng/ml and 21(70%) patients had negative procalcitonin levels (Chi-squrae, p < 0.001). The sensitivity and specificity of procalcitonin assay for ASB was calculated as 30% and 100%, respectively. The positive predictive value was 100% and the negative predictive value was 65%. The most frequent microorganisms in the urine culture were Escherichia coli (26 patients, 87%), Proteus mirabilis (3 patients, 10%) and Klebsiella (1 patient, 3%) in the ASB group. We experienced four (44%) recurrences among nine positive procalcitonin in ASB patients after completion of treatment of the first ASB diagnosis.Discussion: Procalcitonin levels were significantly higher in ASB group than the control group and serum procalcitonin levels were higher in pregnant women with recurrent ASB. This finding is an important result revealed that high procalcitonin level can predict the further urinary tract infection risk. Finally, serum procalcitonin levels were normal in healthy pregnant women while other inflammatory markers such as WBC, ESR and CRP levels were higher. © 2013 Bilir et al.; licensee BioMed Central Ltd

    Introduction: Diabetic foot is a clinical disorder, which is commonly seen in patients with diabetes mellitus. It is also the major cause of below knee amputation in the world. There are many underlying causes such as neuropathic, ischemic, and infectious causes for diabetic foot. Local or systemic complications may develop after snake bite. Case Presentation: We reported a very rare case, involving a 78-year-old male admitted to the Emergency Department, who developed anaphylactic shock and diabetic foot after the snake bite. Conclusions: Reviewing the literature, this is the second reported case of snake bite associated with diabetic foot
