    Modeling and control of double star induction machine by active disturbance rejection control

    This paper aims to contribute to the modeling and control of the double star induction machine (DSIM) by a robust method called active disturbance rejection control (ADRC). The ADRC has become in the last decade one of the most important techniques of regulation. This method is based on the use of an ESO (Extended State Observer) which estimates in real-time and at the same time the external disturbances and the errors due to the variations of the parameters of the machine and to the uncertainties of modeling. The two stators of DSIM are powered by three-phase inverters based on transistors and MLI control and the entire system is modeled in Park's reference. We analyze in the Matlab/Simulink environment the dynamic behavior of the system and the different ADRC controllers under different operating conditions. The result has demonstrated the performance and effectiveness of the ADRC

    Traumatic posterior sternoclavicular joint dislocation in a child: a case report

    Sternoclavicular joint dislocation is a rare event. It occurs most often in a violent trauma. The authors report the case of a10 years old child, received at emergencies for right shoulder blunt trauma after been punched by another child. He presented with right shoulder pain, right upper limb functional impairment and right sternoclavicular joint depression. Standard chest radiographs were normal. Chest CT scan showed posterior dislocation and allowed us to determine its variety. Twelve hours after the trauma, a closed reduction has been done under general anesthesia. A control CT scan showed a restoration of normal joint anatomy. After 18 months, the shoulder was painless and mobile in all directions. It is an isolated recent posterior sternoclavicular joint dislocation in a child. With this observation the authors emphasizeon the unusual mechanism of such a dislocation occurrence, the primary role of CT scan in the diagnosis and early closed reduction

    Atypical proliferative Brenner tumour of the ovary with liver metastases: a case report

    Brenners tumours constitute up to 2% of ovarian neoplasms. Most are benign with a gross fibroma like appearance. Here we present the case of a 45 year old woman who underwent a full staging laparotomy for a suspicious left ovarian mass. A 30 cm left ovarian cyst was found with no enlarged lymph nodes. Histologically this was a proliferative Brenner tumour. Postoperatively, a mild increase in the Ca125 prompted an MRI scan which revealed a 3 cm liver cyst. This was resected and histologically found to be a transitional cell carcinoma. Successful treatment with secondary excision and adjuvant chemotherapy has ensured disease free remission to date

    Kidney failure screening in the general population of rural Africa

    Kidney failure is a silently progressive disease too often unknown to the patients. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of kidney disease in Conakry so as to develop strategies for early detection and prevention.This was a descriptive-type prospective study carried out over six months, from January 31 to July 31, 2012. The study was carried out in two areas: In health facilities where the population were at a higher risk of developing kidney disease (diabetes, uropathies, infectious diseases and HIV, hypertension and cardiovascular disease), and in an apparently healthy population. In the study we included black subjects hospitalised in different targeted wards, as well as fully active apparently healthy subjects of the general population. Renal function was assessed with the simplified MDRD formula. Data collection included clinical parameters: Blood pressure, weight, height and blood laboratory parameters (creatinine, glucose) and urine (urine dipstick, 24h quantitative proteinuria).One hundred and ninety-nine patients were selected for the study: 117 men and 82 women ageing from 20 to 90 years. The prevalence of renal failure was 59% in the population at risk, with 53.3% of men and 16% in apparently healthy population with 60% of men with a statistically significant difference: p = 0.00000001. Proteinuria was observed in 86 patients in the population at risk against 19 in the healthy population
