We present the geological-structural map of the Tuscan Nappe exposed on the eastern border of the Apuan Alps metamorphic dome (Tuscany, Italy). The 1:6,500 scaled Main Map covers an area of about 10 km(2). It contains the first detailed overview of the fault tectonics affecting the Tuscan Nappe during the exhumation and uplift of the Tuscan Metamorphic Units. We documented a polyphase fault tectonics that initially produced low-angle extensional faults and later high-angle faults. The latter started within a transtensional tectonic regime that produced left-lateral strike-slip faults. Lately a pure extensional tensor, indicating a switch of the maximum compression sigma 1 axis from sub-horizontal to sub-vertical, produced faults with a dominant dip-slip component. In our reconstruction the lateral thickness variations documented in several formations of the Tuscan Nappe is mainly controlled by tectonics and not by stratigraphy, as previously suggested

The possibility of rehabilitating immediately an edentulous patient offers today remarkable advantages because it satisfies the patient’s demands for comfort, aesthetics, and functionality and reduces the surgical stages for the professional. In the last years clinicians and companies have been concentrating their efforts in the development of new surgical techniques and biomaterials in order to speed up the osteointegration process, which fosters the functionality, that is the immediate-loading. This clinical report, based on the analysis of the literature and on the presentation of a case report, shows how satisfying results in functionality and aesthetic can be obtained by a careful diagnosis and an accurate therapeutic planning, reducing at the same time the stress for the patient and the surgical stages for the professional. In any case, it is necessary to have the rehabilitations with immediate-loaded implants directed by workers with a good knowledge and experience in surgery, periodontology, and prosthesis or by a work team able to face all the complications such advanced rehabilitations may cause

Simple Synthesis of 17-β-O-hemisuccinate of Stanozolol for Immunoanalytical Methods

The use of doping in sports is a global problem that affects athletes around the world. Among the different methods developed to detect doping agents in biological samples, there are antibody-based methods that need an appropriate hapten design. Steroids with a hydroxyl group can be converted to the corresponding hemisuccinates. A novel approach to the synthesis of 17\u3b2-O-hemisuccinate of the common doping agent stanozolol is described here. Acylation of stanozolol with methyl 4-chloro-4-oxobutyrate/4-dimethylaminopyridine, followed by mild alkaline hydrolysis with methanolic sodium hydroxide at room temperature, gave the simultaneous protection and deprotection of pyrazole-nitrogen atoms. The proposed new synthetic method allows the desired hemisuccinate derivative to be obtained in only two steps, and with a good total yield starting from stanozolol

A novel technique to close large perforation of sinus membrane

Maxillary sinus floor elevation is generally accepted as a regenerative procedure to facilitate dental implants placement in the posterior atrophic maxilla. Although the sinus lift procedure is relatively safe, some potential problems could be occur. The most prevalent intraoperative complication is perforation of sinus membrane, which can lead to graft infection and early failure. The Aim of this work. Is to present a new technique to repair large perforation of sinus membrane. This case report. Is focused on a 10 mm perforation of sinus membrane occurred during preparation of the sinus window. The obliteration of the perforation was obtained by means of suturing sinus membrane with a resorbable material to the bone directly lateral to the osteotomy site. Sinus augmentation procedure could complete and the insertion of a graft was permitted

In dialogo con il “Furioso”. Il proemio delle “Trasformationi” di Lodovico Dolce tra imitazione e variazione

In the 16th century Ovid’s Metamorphoses was the object of several translations and rewritings, either of single books or the whole poem; therefore, the great poems of Boiardo and Ariosto become the point of reference for proposing the Latin poem so as to match the expectations of the readers of the Italian Renaissance. This paper will focus on the preface of Lodovico Dolce’s Trasformationi, published for the first time by Giolito in 1553 in Venice, in order to show the recovery of elements related to the almost contemporary chivalric romances. Dolce imitates Ariosto but, as is to be expected, includes some variations in the text. Moreover, the essay aims to shed light on some differences in the proemio through a comparison between the first edition printed in 1553 and another edition, published by Francesco Sansovino in 1568 in Venice.
