Kish as a small island towards sustainable tourism

    Get PDF
Small islands are often encouraged to balance their economic and environmental concerns toward sustainable tourism. Universal experience shows that sustainable tourism in small islands should take into account their individual characteristics. This paper investigates the quality of sustainable tourism in a small island, namely, Kish in the South of Iran. Firstly, the main characteristics of small islands in relation to tourism sustainability are studied. Then the characteristics of Kish are identified as a small island. Finally, this study suggests that the crucial issue of sustainable tourism has been neglected in the development planning of the island. It is concluded with some recommendations for improving the development of Kish towards sustainable tourism. The results are generally applicable to other small islands. In addition, the results can be generalized to other tourist destinations in Iran or other countries with similar climatic and cultural condition

Improving the effectiveness of job fairs for young jobseekers in Egypt

    Get PDF
This detailed report covers causes and conditions of the mismatch between employers and those seeking employment in Egypt. It then argues for the effectiveness of job fairs to bridge the recruitment gap. Lack of information is as big a constraint as monetary constraints/transportation costs in job fair attendance. A travel voucher treatment was cross-randomized with information supply and shows that people who received both the information and the voucher increased their job fair attendance by 9.8 percentage points (a 280% increase relative to control). The report also includes the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the labour market

In this paper, by applying Mawhin\u27s continuation theorem of the coincidence degree theory, some sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of an (omega)-periodic solution for the following third-order neutral functional differential equation are established (dfrac{d^{3}}{dt^{3}}bigg ( x(t)-d(t)xbig (t-delta(t)big ) bigg )+a(t)ddot{x}(t)+b(t)fbig (t,dot{x}(t)big )+sum_{i=1}^{n}c_{i}(t)gbig (t,x(t-tau_{i}(t))big )=e(t)). Moreover, we present an example and a graph to demonstrate the validity of analytical conclusion

Saving the Fundaments: Impact of a Military Coup on the Sudan Health System

    Get PDF
Military coups are not uncommon occurrences, particularly in developing nations where political systems might be less firmly entrenched or still evolving. Developments of this nature can often have profound implications for the affected nation’s healthcare systems, both in the immediate aftermath and over the longer term. This paper narrates some notable consequences of political instability on the national health system, particularly placing them in the context of the military coup in October 2021 – emphasizing the context behind the political turbulence, its acute and direct consequences, and the possible long-term legacies of political shocks on the already overwhelmed health system. As a descriptive piece, this narrative does not only look at the impact of the military coup on hospitals, but considers the implications for the healthcare system as defined by the WHO, with particular emphasis on the impact of the coup on health funding from multi-laterals, service delivery, human resource availability, and supply chains in Sudan

In contemporary urban thinking, public open spaces will be successful if respect their users\u27 needs. This study posits that in an island with tourist attraction, where users of urban open spaces are majorly tourists, these spaces are affected by numerous demographic factors and specifically clarifies factor of gender. It takes Kish Island in Iran as the case where supposed to enhance the open spaces and public zones due to its current development plans. The methodology of this study involved reviewing the related literature and subsequently drives a tourists\u27 survey. The results clarified the factor of gender affecting tourists\u27 needs for public open space in Kish and showed the groups of needs that are more affected by it. Hence, some suggestions for planning and designing these spaces would certainly contribute towards improving the quality of them in Kish Island as well as can be generalized for other cases with similar culture and climate
