    El vínculo entre algunos textos de Quevedo y el lector actual que interpreta su versión satírica de los errores humanos tiene de fondo común la tradición contra las supersticiones que construyeron los tratados de demonología escritos durante el barroco. Las creencias alrededor de los demonios, el infierno y otros mitos, hoy pueden contrastarse con el horizonte cultural, incluso como argumento para criticarlas; sin embargo durante el barroco y especialmente en la obra de Quevedo, el tratamiento también podía ser ridiculizante por el afán de moralizar y parodiar las actitudes humanas, se trata del peso ético de la literatura que ahora parece ajeno. En realidad, frente a la exégesis, es posible y atractivo para cualquier lector contemporáneo reconocerse entre la galería crítica del autor, gracias a la interpretación del texto, de la tradición y de sí mismo

    Sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors improve cardiovascular and renal outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes, including those with diabetic kidney disease. However, the US Food and Drug Administration and European Medicines Agency warnings about potential adverse effects, such as urosepsis and pyelonephritis, based on post-marketing case reports, may deter physicians from prescribing these drugs.     Increasing numbers and improved overall survival of patients on kidney replacement therapy over the last decade in Europe: an ERA registry study

    Artículo escrito por un elevado número de autores, sólo se referencian el que aparece en primer lugar y los autores pertenecientes a la UAMBackground: The aim of this study was to describe the trends in the incidence, prevalence and survival of patients on kidney replacement therapy (KRT) for end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) across Europe from 2008 to 2017. Methods: Data from renal registries in 9 countries and 16 regions that provided individual patient data to the ERA Registry from 2008 to 2017 were included. These registries cover 34% of the general population in Europe. Crude and standardized incidence and prevalence per million population (pmp) were determined. Trends over time were studied using Joinpoint regression. Survival probabilities were estimated using Kaplan-Meier analysis and hazard ratios (HRs) using Cox regression analysis. Results: The standardized incidence of KRT was stable [annual percentage change (APC): -1.48 (-3.15; 0.21)] from 2008 (146.0 pmp) to 2011 (141.6 pmp), followed by a slight increase [APC: 1.01 (0.43; 1.60)] to 148.0 pmp in 2017, although trends in incidence varied across countries. This increase was primarily due to a rise in the incidence of KRT in men older than 65 years. Moreover, as a cause of kidney failure, diabetes mellitus is increasing. The standardized prevalence increased from 2008 (990.0 pmp) to 2017 (1166.8 pmp) [APC: 1.82 (1.75; 1.89)]. Patient survival on KRT improved in the time period 2011-13 compared with 2008-[adjusted HR: 0.94 (0.93; 0.95)]. Conclusion: This study showed an overall increase in the incidence and prevalence of KRT for ESKD as well as an increase in the KRT patient survival over the last decade in Europ

    Yield and Economic Results of Dif-ferent Mechanical Pruning Strategies on "Navel Foyos" Oranges in the Mediterranean Area

    [EN] Pruning is one of the most manpower-consuming agricultural operations in citrus production.Mechanical pruning can help to reduce pruning time and costs. In order to obtain the knowledge of its effects on the important orange variety ¿Navel Foyos¿, several pruning strategies that include manual pruning and various intensities of mechanical pruning were tested for three years. The results showed that in ¿Navel Foyos¿ oranges, the mechanical pruning strategies did not affect the yield nor the size of the fruit in comparison with manual pruning.     A multiscale approach for modeling crystalline solids

    In this paper we present a modeling approach to bridge the atomistic with macroscopic scales in crystalline materials. The methodology combines identification and modeling of the controlling unit processes at microscopic level with the direct atomistic determination of fundamental material properties. These properties are computed using a many body Force Field derived from ab initio quantum-mechanical calculations. This approach is exercised to describe the mechanical response of high-purity Tantalum single crystals, including the effect of temperature and strain-rate on the hardening rate. The resulting atomistically informed model is found to capture salient features of the behavior of these crystals such as: the dependence of the initial yield point on temperature and strain rate; the presence of a marked stage I of easy glide, specially at low temperatures and high strain rates; the sharp onset of stage II hardening and its tendency to shift towards lower strains, and eventually disappear, as the temperature increases or the strain rate decreases; the parabolic stage II hardening at low strain rates or high temperatures; the stage II softening at high strain rates or low temperatures; the trend towards saturation at high strains; the temperature and strain-rate dependence of the saturation stress; and the orientation dependence of the hardening rate
