Flux Phase as a Dynamic Jahn-Teller Phase: Berryonic Matter in the Cuprates?
There is considerable evidence for some form of charge ordering on the
hole-doped stripes in the cuprates, mainly associated with the low-temperature
tetragonal phase, but with some evidence for either charge density waves or a
flux phase, which is a form of dynamic charge-density wave. These three states
form a pseudospin triplet, demonstrating a close connection with the E X e
dynamic Jahn-Teller effect, suggesting that the cuprates constitute a form of
Berryonic matter. This in turn suggests a new model for the dynamic Jahn-Teller
effect as a form of flux phase. A simple model of the Cu-O bond stretching
phonons allows an estimate of electron-phonon coupling for these modes,
explaining why the half breathing mode softens so much more than the full
oxygen breathing mode. The anomalous properties of provide a coupling
(correlated hopping) which acts to stabilize density wave phases.Comment: Major Revisions: includes comparisons with specific cuprate phonon

Measurement of Transverse Single-Spin Asymmetries for Mid-rapidity Production of Neutral Pions and Charged Hadrons in Polarized p+p Collisions at sqrt(s) = 200 GeV
The transverse single-spin asymmetries of neutral pions and non-identified
charged hadrons have been measured at mid-rapidity in polarized proton-proton
collisions at sqrt(s) = 200 GeV. The data cover a transverse momentum (p_T)
range 0.5-5.0 GeV/c for charged hadrons and 1.0-5.0 GeV/c for neutral pions, at
a Feynman-x (x_F) value of approximately zero. The asymmetries seen in this
previously unexplored kinematic region are consistent with zero within
statistical errors of a few percent. In addition, the inclusive charged hadron
cross section at mid-rapidity from 0.5 < p_T < 7.0 GeV/c is presented and
compared to NLO pQCD calculations. Successful description of the unpolarized
cross section above ~2 GeV/c using NLO pQCD suggests that pQCD is applicable in
the interpretation of the asymmetry results in the relevant kinematic range.Comment: 331 authors, 6 pages text, 2 figures, 3 tables. Submitted to Phys.

Saturation of azimuthal anisotropy in Au + Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 62 - 200 GeV
New measurements are presented for charged hadron azimuthal correlations at
mid-rapidity in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 62.4 and 200 GeV. They are
compared to earlier measurements obtained at sqrt(s_NN) = 130 GeV and in Pb+Pb
collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 17.2 GeV. Sizeable anisotropies are observed with
centrality and transverse momentum (p_T) dependence characteristic of elliptic
flow (v_2). For a broad range of centralities, the observed magnitudes and
trends of the differential anisotropy, v_2(p_T), change very little over the
collision energy range sqrt(s_NN) = 62-200 GeV, indicating saturation of the
excitation function for v_2 at these energies. Such a saturation may be
indicative of the dominance of a very soft equation of state for sqrt(s_NN) =
62-200 GeV.Comment: 432 authors, 7 pages text, 4 figures, REVTeX4. To be submitted to

Obstacles to efficient data-sharing in a digital land information databank
Land data are being collected by different agencies at the Federal, State and local government levels. These data are expected to meet certain attributes e.g. accuracy, precision, currency, accessibility etc., to be able to serve the purposes intended. But, at these levels of collection and even within the levels, there are duplications and no particular standards or specifications. With the emerging technologies with various
accuracies and precisions, the enthusiasm in data-sharing is very high but certain things must be taken care of. An exploratory investigation into efficient data-sharing in a digital
land information databank was carried out. Our findings showed a lot of obstacles exist for efficient digital data-sharing. Such obstacles include: multiple and inaccurate control network, lack of feasibility studies, archaic nature of existing survey laws and regulations, poor enabling infrastructures and many others. These obstacles, it was found made datasharing very difficult. Digital data were collected and are still being collected in different formats both in terms of instrumentation and techniques. Therefore, for efficient datasharing, some of existing laws and regulations should be up-dated, multiple and inaccurate reference framework must be corrected and unified. Also, Nigerians must change their present behaviour and be filly disposed to reforms in the system
