Organizational commitment and intention to leave among nurses: The mediating role of moral obligation
In today’s fast-paced economic competition, committed and loyal employees are important for the profit-oriented organizations to gain and sustain their competitiveness.Even for non-profit-oriented organizations like hospitals and universities, these committed and loyal employees will lead to better quality service and improved organizational performance. Thus, it is vital for the organizations to sustain employees’ commitment because once the employees’ commitments decrease, it would be difficult for organizations to retain their employees. This study investigated the relationship between organizational commitment and intention to leave among nurses in Malaysian public hospitals, and determined the role of moral obligation as a mediator on the relationship between organizational commitment and intention to leave. The study focused on permanent nurses working in public hospitals in Peninsular Malaysia. The results supported that organizational commitment was significantly and negatively related to intention to leave. The macro results also showed that moral obligation was a mediator in the relationships between organizational commitment and the intention to leave. The results were crucial to be looked into so that management and employers could have ample understanding and guidelines if they were to draft retention strategies.Even though many studies had been conducted on the intention to leave, most of them were conducted in developed countries and this study is believed to enhance the literature gap since it has an emphasis in the Malaysian contex
Subclasses of Bi-Univalent Functions Associated with Hohlov Operator
The coefficients estimate problem for Taylor-Maclaurin series is still an open problem especially for a function in the subclass of bi-univalent functions. A function f ϵ A is said to be bi-univalent in the open unit disk D if both f and f-1 are univalent in D. The symbol A denotes the class of all analytic functions f in D and it is normalized by the conditions f(0) = f’(0) – 1=0. The class of bi-univalent is denoted by The subordination concept is used in determining second and third Taylor-Maclaurin coefficients. The upper bound for second and third coefficients is estimated for functions in the subclasses of bi-univalent functions which are subordinated to the function φ. An analytic function f is subordinate to an analytic function g if there is an analytic function w defined on D with w(0) = 0 and |w(z)| < 1 satisfying f(z) = g[w(z)]. In this paper, two subclasses of bi-univalent functions associated with Hohlov operator are introduced. The bound for second and third coefficients of functions in these subclasses is determined using subordination. The findings would generalize the previous related works of several earlier authors
Is lifelong learning an essence to economic growth?
Lifelong learning is continuous learning throughout the life of an individual. It can occur
through formal and informal means. Formal means are trainings, counselling, tutoring,
mentoring, apprenticeship, higher education etc. While for informal, it refers to experiences
gained etc. Malaysia view education as a vital agenda and priority platform to optimise the
potential of every citizen and put within reach the promise of the Wawasan 2020 objective, to
achieve zero illiterate rate by the year 2020 in Malaysia. This national endeavour will be in
nought if the education system fails to produce human capital that can thrive in meeting the
challenges of the 21st century innovation economy. It is believed that through proper and
sufficient training and education level, one would be able to perform well in his or her works.
According to Sachs (1995), learning new skills and acquiring new knowledge cannot be
restricted to formal educational settings. Effective learning needs to be integrated into the
work process. Training is often considered as a variable plugged into an economic model.
This paper aims to discuss the significance of lifelong learning to an economy using
economic growth theory of human capital and learning by doing. (Abstract by authors
Modal Analysis Of CNC Milling Machine Bed Made Of Different Alloys Using Finite Element Modeling
Over the years, there has been a strong emphasis on predicting the dynamic behavior of machine tool structures by identifying modal parameters. The machine bed is one of the most significant components in a CNC milling machine because its functionality significantly affects the final product's quality. The bed acts as the machine's foundation, supporting all of the machine's critical components. It is also utilized to avoid deformation caused by static and dynamic loads. This study aims to compare the modal parameters of several alloys used as bed materials, such as carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel, to those of a common material. A three-dimensional model and modal analysis of the bed were conducted in Autodesk Inventor software. Alloy steel shows the highest values of natural frequencies compared to other materials due to its high Young’s modulus and low density. Similar mode shape is observed with varied magnitude in all the materials. According to the findings, alloy steel could be a viable alternative to cast iron in machine tools bed's structur
Job satisfaction and turnover intention among nurses: The mediating role of moral obligation
The shortage of nurses has become a worldwide issue. It is even a critical issue in that the demand for nurses is expected to increase in the next few decades while the supply of nurses is expected to decrease. Consequently, nurses’ intention to leave has become a topic of great importance to researchers. Therefore this study of intention to leave among nurses in Malaysian public hospitals was conducted with two main objectives: 1) to investigate the relationship between job satisfaction and intention to leave among nurses in Malaysian public hospital, and 2) to determine the role of moral obligation as a mediator on the relationship between job satisfaction and intention to leave. The study focused on permanent nurses working in public hospitals in Peninsular Malaysia. Results of analysis supported that job satisfaction was significantly and negatively related to intention to leave. The most important finding
is the significant mediating effect of moral obligation on the relationship between job satisfaction and intention to leave. The findings therefore were crucial to be looked into so that management and employers could have ample understanding and guidelines if they were to draft retention strategies
Fostering problem solving in chemistry: the importance, difficulties and the needs of scientific creativity
Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) is a thinking skill that occurs when an individual is facing a remarkable, uncertainty, question or dilemma (Goodson, Rohani, & King, 1998). HOTS enable students to better understand what they have learned (Heong et.al, 2011) and prepare themselves to undergo changes in the 21st century (Geersten, 2003 & Kenney, 2013). According to Zoller (2001) HOTS in the context of chemical education refers to the questioning, problem solving, decision making and critical thinking. HOTS especially problem solving primarily provide individual to meet the challenges in the world of work and everyday life to have enough skills to operate effectively in society and the workplace (Cooper, 2006; Ramos, Dolipas & Villamor, 2013)

Relationship between personality traits, attachment styles and life satisfaction among adolescents
Adolescence is an important developmental stage for every individual as it is a transition period from childhood to adulthood. Hence, many variables contribute to the feelings of life satisfaction among adolescents. It is therefore prudent to investigate what adolescents deem as important in influencing their life satisfaction. The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between personality traits, attachment styles with adolescents’ life satisfaction. A total of 315 respondents aged between 18 to 21 years old participated in this study. Three standardized instruments were used and they are: the NEO Five Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI) to measure personality, the Attachment Style Questionnaire (ASQ) and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). Results showed that there were significant relationships between personality traits of extraversion, openness and conscientiousness with life satisfaction. The findings also indicated significant correlations between attachment styles of confidence and relationship with life satisfaction. In addition, results showed that there were significant relationships between most of the personality traits with attachment styles. In conclusion, adolescents who were satisfied with their lives were those who have personality traits of extraversion, openness and conscientiousness and secure attachment style. These findings give important insights in understanding the well-being of adolescents
