It may be sad to see that one of the best bindings carried out in Spain holds the booking record of about 22.000 people of the Spanish Civil War buried in the Basilica of the Valley of the Fallen. In this short paper the binding is thoroughly described paying close attention to the materials and techniques employed, the decoration that is displayed on the covers, endpapers spines and cuttings, and even the elements of protection of the binding such as the shirt or cover and the case. It is analysed the state of conservation of this work that at present is kept in the Library of the Royal Palace

Background: Metacomprehension skills determine an individual reader’s ability to judge their degree of learning and text comprehension and have considerable importance in their ability to learn from reading. Given that many comprehension processes are influenced by text characteristics, the aim of the present study was to analyze whether different types of text have significant impact on metacomprehension skills at two different points in primary education. Method: A total of 823 students (4th and 6th years of primary school, 9 to 11 years old) read three different texts (narrative, expository and discontinuous texts) taken from ECOM-PLEC.Pri, a standardized Spanish test for reading comprehension (León, Escudero, & Olmos, 2012). Students were classified by their metacomprehension skills. A Differential Item Functioning (DIF) analysis was conducted in order to analyze whether the underlying reading comprehension and metacomprehension processes differed across text types. Results: Results showed a considerable divergence of performance for reading narrative texts as opposed to expository and discontinuous texts. These differences were related to academic level. Conclusion: Text characteristics such as the type of text can have a great impact on metacomprehension skills and, consequently, on learning.

Design and implementation of a wide-band real-time mobile channel emulator

A new wide-band mobile channel emulator for the CODIT project is designed and implemented. The UMTS code-division testbed (CODIT R2020) is a research project within the European RACE-II program set up by the Commission of the European Community. Our goal is to be able to simulate in the laboratory, in real time, the multipath propagation found in the mobile radio channel. As code-division multiple access (CDMA) is the access technique within the CODIT project, it was realized that the channel emulator must have simultaneously good delay resolution between propagation paths and long duration of the impulse response. These considerations led to a very flexible channel emulator specifically designed to host the new wide-band channel models developed within the CODIT project. Our emulator features three independent inputs and two outputs, up to 20 complex propagation paths, 10-MHz radio frequency (RF) bandwidth, a delay resolution of 50 ns, and a maximum duration of the channel impulse response of 80 μs. Starting with an explanation of the global structure of the new channel emulator, we derive the optimum design of the interpolation procedures and present the main implementation issues arising from our initial architecture. Finally, we report the results of the laboratory tests of the first prototype of the channel emulator.Peer Reviewe

Los resultados proporcionan evidencia empírica para la validez de la pruebaThe purpose of this work was to collect construct and criterion-related evidence of validity for a summary test (RESUMeV) designed to assess students from fourth and sixth grade. The sample of this study consisted of 528 children, 236 from fourth grade and 296 from sixth grade. They were drawn from 21 different primary schools. Several criteria were used. To evaluate the internal consistency, Cronbach’s alpha was calculated for all summary evaluation criteria (content, coherence, and style); a homogeneity index (Hj) was calculated too. The validity was evaluated by comparing academic levels. As for the results, both reliability and validity indices were high and significant. These results provide empirical evidence for the validity of the summary testEste trabajo ha sido subvencionado por el MINNECO PSI2013 47219-

3 or 4 years for Anesthesia Residency Program? How to approach the discussion in terms of competency-based education

However, the starting point of the discussion must be redesigning the national program curricula to move away from a fixed-time training and variable competencies, to a competency-based model; i.e., fixed competencies and variable time frames

    Split-enabled 350–630 Gb/s optical interconnect with direct detection NOMA-CAP and 7-core multi-core fiber

The ever-growing data traffic volume inside data centers caused by the popularization of cloud services and edge computing demands scalable and cost-efficient network infrastructures. With this premise, optical interconnects have recently gained more and more research attention as a key building block to ensure end-to-end energy efficient solutions, offering high throughput, low latency and reduced energy consumption compared to current networks based on active optical cables. An efficient way for performing such optical interconnects is to make use of multi-core fibers (MCFs), which enables the multiplexing of several spatial channels, each using a different core inside the same fiber cladding. Moreover, non-orthogonal multiple access combined with multi-band carrierless amplitude and phase modulation (NOMA-CAP) has been recently proposed as a potential candidate to increase the network capacity and an efficiency/flexibility resource management. In this paper, using direct detection we experimentally demonstrate the transmission of NOMA-CAP signals through a 2 km MCF with 7 spatial channels for high capacity optical interconnect applications. The results show negligible transmission penalty for different total aggregated traffics ranging from 350 Gb/s to 630 Gb/s.This work was supported in part by ALLIANCE (TEC2017-90034-C2-2-R) project co-funded by FEDER, the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement no780997 (plaCMOS), as well as MINECO FPI-BES-2015-074302Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
