    Get PDF
Asian apricot aphid, Myzus mumecola (Matsumura, 1917) (Hemiptera: Aphididae, Aphidinae) has been found during spring of 2021 in many localities in Serbia (Ljig, Smederevo, Velika Plana, Belgrade and Å id) on cultivated apricot. The species is of Asian origin, a few years ago it was found in Italy and in Hungary. Research of the species indicates that it is rapidly widening its distribution in Europe. Damages made to apricot trees by feeding on leaves at young branches and making red galls are significant. Presence, damage and biology of M. mumecola needs to be studied in the future, especially its secondary hosts which are not enough known

On maize in Serbia many aphid species could be found, but only very rarly they can cause some damages. In this article 6 species have been presented, one developing on root of maize (Tetraneura ulmi) and others on upper parts of plants (Metopolophium dirhodum, Rhopalosiphum maidis, Rhopalosiphum padi, Sipha maydis and Sitobion avenae). Basic morphological data with symptoms, host plants, biology, distribution and vector activities have been given for all mentioned species.

Multivariate morphometric analysis was used to compare nine characteristics of 47 populations of Myzus persicae (Sulzer) originating from two host-plants, peach and tobacco, from 13 localities in 2004 and 34 localities in 2005, in Serbia and Montenegro. Multivariant discriminant analysis showed there to be a distinct discrimination between the populations from the peach and tobacco host-plants. The most important discrimination characteristics are the ultimate rostral segment length and processes terminalis length, which are greater in the aphids from tobacco than in those from peach. This is the first indication that in this part of Europe there are two subspecies: M. persicae (Sulzer) and M. persicae nicotianae Blackman.

Flight activity of aphids as potential vectors of viral infection of alfalfa plants were monitored in Serbia for the first time in Europe. Research was conducted at the location Progar (Srem) for two years using six yellow water traps. A total of 1626 individual winged aphids were collected. The collected specimens were classified into 49 different taxa. During the two-year study, maximum population density of aphids and maximum potential vector activity were noted at the beginning of June, during the second alfalfa intercut. More than 65% of the collected specimens were potential vectors of the most important alfalfa viruses, Alfalfa mosaic virus (AMV) and Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV). The most numerous winged aphid species on alfalfa were Aphis craccivora, Aphis fabae, Aphis gossypii, Aphis pomi/ spiraecola and Therioaphis trifolii. The Morisita-Horn similarity index was used to calculate similarities in species composition among the traps. High values of this index showed no significant differences among the aphids in traps. It indicates that one trap alone could provide good insight into the abundance, aphid diversity and number of potential vector species in small alfalfa fields.

Aphids (Hemiptera: Aphididae) are important pests of alfalfa all over the world. One of the most important ones is a blue alfalfa aphid - Acyrthosiphon kondoi Shinji. Morphology of the species is very similar to a green alfalfa aphid - Acyrthosipom pisum Harris. Saliva of A. kondoi is very toxic and this is why it is more important than other pest species. It can cause alfalfa wilting. Recently, A. kondoi was found in Europe, in Greece and France. It is expected to appear in other European countries. The presence of A. kondoi in Serbia was investigated from 2011 to 2015 on alfalfa and other host plants and it was not found.Biljne vaÅ”i (Hemiptera: Aphididae) svojom aktivnoŔću nanose značajne ekonomske gubitke u proizvodnji lucerke Å”irom sveta.
