Three dimensional Lifshitz black hole and the Korteweg-de Vries equation

We consider a solution of three dimensional New Massive Gravity with a negative cosmological constant and use the AdS/CTF correspondence to inquire about the equivalent two dimensional model at the boundary. We conclude that there should be a close relation with the Korteweg-de Vries equation.Comment: 4 page

A Framework for the Design and Implementation of Learning Objects: a Competence-based Approach

    Get PDF
This paper presents a framework for the design and implementation of learning objects using a competence-based approach. This framework is illustrated by the development of a standalone Windows application (Trilho GOA) whose primary purpose is to create standardized pedagogical contents trough the aggregation and standardization of instructional resources in several formats that can be used later on a Learning Management System (LMS) supporting SCORM 1.2. The paper contains a brief introduction to the developed software, its system architecture, main features and several pedagogical advantages for its users

Health information system in nursing homes

    Get PDF
The use of health information systems can bring benefits to long-term care services. They can help save time, support decisions, as they provide adequate, reliable information and at the right time. The main goal of this article is to model and develop a solution to help caregivers with their daily work and with this, improve the quality and effectiveness of the services provided to their patients. To understand the specific needs, we conducted a focus group study with direct care nursing home employees. Subsequently, a qualitative analysis was performed to define the requirements for the information system. The results obtained revealed the need to record and access health information quickly to make decisions, ensure the flow of information within the team and between shifts and the creation of automatic alerts to ensure procedures execution. After this phase, taking into account the defined requirements, the solution was conceptualized and developed. The evaluation and improvement of the prototype will be presented in a future paper.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

On geometry-dependent vortex stability and topological spin excitations on curved surfaces with cylindrical symmetry

We study the Heisenberg Model on cylindrically symmetric curved surfaces. Two kinds of excitations are considered. The first is given by the isotropic regime, yielding the sine-Gordon equation and π\pi-solitons are predicted. The second one is given by the XY model, leading to a vortex turning around the surface. Helical states are also considered, however, topological arguments can not be used to ensure its stability. The energy and the anisotropy parameter which stabilizes the vortex state are explicitly calculated for two surfaces: catenoid and hyperboloid. The results show that the anisotropy and the vortex energy depends on the underlying geometry.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures, Accepted for publication in Phys. Lett A (2013
