Economic Policies and Bankruptcy Institutions: Brazil in a Period of Transition from Colony to Independent Nation

This paper studies the legislation on bankruptcy introduced into Brazil by D.João VI (1808-1821) and shows how this legislation was used in this period as an instrument of protection for certain specific economic activities. On one hand, this work deliberately seeks to incorporate institutions into the study of Brazilian economic history, based on the assumption that the lack of interest in the role played by these institutions has hindered a better understanding of the country’s economic development during the Nineteenth Century. On the other hand, this paper introduces new material for the purpose of re-assessing the economic policies enforced in this period. In fact the study of the bankruptcy legislation suggests that one of the Government’s main concern at the time was to promote the development of activities directly related to gold and sugar exports. Terapia fágica: passado, presente e futuro

Projeto de Pós-Graduação/Dissertação apresentado à Universidade Fernando Pessoa como parte dos requisitos para obtenção do grau de Mestre em Ciências FarmacêuticasO termo bacteriófago resulta da associação de duas distintas designações, “bactéria” e “phagein”. Deste modo, um bacteriófago é um ser capaz de devorar bactérias. Como tal, este bacteriófago, ou apenas fago, como também é denominado, é o centro de aplicabilidade da Terapia Fágica. As infecções bacterianas são actualmente uma constante preocupação, não só para o Homem, como também para as plantas e animais, isto porque, a sensibilidade por elas demonstrada perante o tratamento com antibióticos se mostra presentemente comprometida. Revela-se nesta fase, a administração de bacteriófagos uma prática bastante promissora. Os fagos mostram-se capazes de lisar a bactéria infectante sem que se mostrem prejudiciais para o Homem. Contraposta à terapêutica antibiótica, a terapia fágica apresenta maior selectividade, maior eficácia, menor custo e maior capacidade de contornar a resistência bacteriana. Torna-se imprescindível a aposta científica nesta área ainda em descobrimento, especialmente no que se refere ao aprofundamento de estudos específicos que simulem as mais variadas condições do organismo humano. The term bacteriophage results from the association of two distinct designations, "bacteria" and "phagein". Thus, a bacteriophage is a being able to eat bacteria. This way, this bacteriophage, or just phage, as it is also called, is the center of applicability of phage therapy. Bacterial infections are a constant concern today, not only when in humans, but also when in plants or animals, because, their sensibility to the treatment with antibiotics is presently compromised. At this phase, the administration of bacteriophages is quite promising. Phage is capable of lysing the infecting bacteria without being harmful to humans. Unlike the antibiotic therapy, the phage therapy has higher selectivity, higher efficacy, lower cost and greater ability to bypass the bacterial resistance. It becomes essential the scientific bet in this area, which is still growing, especially in what regards to further specific studies, simulating the most various conditions of the human body

Little-Parks oscillations near a persistent current loop

We investigate the Little-Parks oscillations caused by a persistent current loop set on the top edge of a mesoscopic superconducting thin-walled cylinder with a finite height. For a short cylinder the Little-Parks oscillations are approximately the same ones as the standard effect, as there is only one magnetic flux piercing the cylinder. For a tall cylinder the inhomogeneity of the magnetic field makes different magnetic fluxes pierce the cylinder at distinct heights and we show here that this produces two distinct Little-Parks oscillatory regimes according to the persistent current loop. We show that these two regimes, and also the transition between them, are observable in current measurements done in the superconducting cylinder. Benefícios e Implicações Decorrentes da Implementação do SNCRF em Cabo Verde

Cabo Verde é um país que tem vindo a sofrer mudanças nas mais diversas áreas nomeadamente na intensificação das relações económicas e comerciais com o resto do mundo e do mercado de capitais. Tudo isto leva a que o país seja procurado por empresas estrangeiras com o intuito de investir no país devido a sua estabilidade política. Mas é preciso acompanhar essa evolução em todas as áreas e neste sentido sente-se a necessidade de ter um documento contabilístico moderno e credível visto que o nosso PNC não tinha sido objecto de mudança deste a sua implementação em 1984. É neste sentido que surge o SNCRF como intuito de servir como instrumento para que as empresas nacionais e as internacionais sedeados no país possam fazer a apresentação das suas contas com elevada qualidade e a um custo baixo. O trabalho visa demonstrar as implicações e os benefícios decorrentes dessa implementação. All this means that the country is looking for foreign companies in order to invest in the country due to its political stability. But this development is needed in all areas and in this sense he feels the need of having modern accounting documents and credible as our PNC had not been subject to such change its implementation in 1984. It is this sense that emerges as the SNCRF order to serve as an instrument for the national and international companies based in the country to make the presentation of their accounts with a high quality and low cost. How authentic leadership promotes individual creativity: The mediating role of affective commitment

This study sought to provide a more comprehensive understanding of how authentic leadership can affect employees’ individual creativity through affective commitment’s mediating role. The sample included 177 leader-follower dyads from 26 private, small and medium-sized enterprises. Followers reported their levels of affective commitment and perceptions of authentic leadership, and leaders assessed each follower’s level of creativity. The results show that authentic leadership has a positive impact on affective commitment and creativity. Moreover, affective commitment fully mediates the relationship between perceived authentic leadership and individual creativity. Organizations can thus increase employees’ affective commitment and creativity by encouraging their managers to adopt more authentic leadership styles. Additional studies with larger samples are needed to determine more clearly not only authentic leadership’s influence on individual creativity but also other psychosocial and personal variables’ effects on that relationship.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
