G.W. Leibniz: Sign and the Problem of Expression

    Get PDF
The disciplinary differentiation of sciences attracted Leibniz’s attention for a long period of time. From nowadays prospects it looks very well grounded as soon as in Leibniz’s manuscripts a modern scholar finds clue ideas of any research field which would tempt him to consider Leibniz as one of the founders of this particular discipline. We argue that this is possible only in retrospection and would significantly distort the essence of Leibniz’s epistemology. Our approach implies, in contrary, the investigation of the Leibniz doctrine of signs on the background of the related philosophical problem, that of expression. The choice of semiotics is justified by the fact that it took a central place in his theoretical constructions, both those of natural sciences and of philosophy. In Leibniz system of knowledge the concept of notes and sings served a theoretical foundation of his most important and long-life aspiration to build up practical science of universal characteristics. In his eyes this practical science was the science of sciences, and we can consider it as the matrix for all possible scientific knowledge

    Memristor Load Current Mirror Circuit

Simple current mirrors with semiconductor resistive loads suffer from large on-chip area, leakage currents and thermal effects. In this paper, we report the feasibility of using memristive loads as a replacement of semiconductor resistors in simplistic current mirror configuration. We report power, area and total harmonic distribution, and report the corner conditions on resistance tolerances.Comment: 4th International Conference on Advances in Computing, Communications and Informaticst, IEEE, August, 201

Cyclodextrins as Supramolecular Hosts for Dye Molecules

    Get PDF
Cyclodextrins possess a hydrophobic cavity due to which they are suitable for inclusion of various organic dyes. The complex formation between CDs and dyes has been employed to affect the photophysical and photochemical characteristics of organic dyes such as fluorescence enhancement, charge and proton transfer, energy transfer, photochromic transformations and intramolecular excimer/exciplex formation. This fundamental approach has also potential nanotechnological application in creation of optoelectronic devices. Thus, the fluorescent hybrid nanomaterials consisting of supramolecular assemblies of cyclodextrins with fluorescent dyes can be considered as multivalent scaffolds for the construction of various devices applicable in science and technology, in fluorescence spectroscopic and microscopic techniques providing high sensitivity and imaging of cells with high resolutions. In some cases, fluorescent hybrid materials composed of CD-dye complexes have been successfully used instead of the fluorescent organic molecules in sensing and bioimaging studies

Diminutivization supports gender acquisition in Russian children

    Get PDF
Gender agreement elicitation was used with Russian children to examine how diminutives common in Russian child-directed speech affect gender learning. Forty-six children (2;9–4;8) were shown pictures of familiar and of novel animals and asked to describe them after hearing their names, which all contained regular morphophonological cues to masculine or feminine gender. Half were presented as simplex (e.g. josh ‘porcupine’) and half as diminutive forms (e.g. jozhik ‘porcupine-DIM’). Children produced fewer agreement errors for diminutive than for simplex nouns, indicating that the regularizing features of diminutives enhance gender categorization. The study demonstrates how features of child-directed speech can facilitate language learning

Health saving strategy as a factor of "society wellness"

    Get PDF
The article deals with the problem of reducing the motor activity of a modern man, especially a young man, in connection with scientific and technological progress. The results of the presented study confirm these fears: inactive lifestyle is becoming the norm. The importance of promoting the health saving strategy as one of the factors of successful social and economic development of the society is justified.publishersversionPeer reviewe

Application of ESI FT-ICR MS to Study Kraft Lignin Modification by the Exoenzymes of the White Rot Basidiomycete Fungus TrametesHirsutaLE-BIN 072

    Get PDF
Trameteshirsuta is a wood rotting fungus that possesses a vast array of lignin degrading enzymes, including7 laccases, 7 ligninolyticmanganese peroxidases, 9 lignin peroxidases and 2 versatile peroxidases. In this study, electrospray ionization Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (ESI FT-ICR MS)was used to examine kraft lignin modification by the enzymatic system of this fungus. The observed pattern of lignin modification suggested that before the 6th day of cultivation, the fungal enzymatic system tended to degrade more oxidized moleculesand, hence, less recalcitrant molecules, with the production of hard-to-modify reduced molecular species. At some point after the 6th day of cultivation, the fungal enzymatic system tended to degrade more oxidized moleculesand, hence, less recalcitrant molecules, with the production of hard-to-modify reduced molecular species. At some point after the 6th day of cultivation, the fungus started to degrade less oxidized, more recalcitrant, compounds, converting them into the more oxidized forms. The altered pattern of lignin modification enabled changes in the fungal enzymatic system. These changes were further attributed to the appearance of the particular ligninolyticmanganese peroxides enzyme(MnP7), which was added by the fungus to the mixture of enzymes that had already been secreted (VP2 and MnP5). Keywords: wood rotting fungi, kraft lignin, mass spectrometry, peroxidase

Comparative analysis of the PET and ICT sensor properties of 1,8-naphthalimides containing aza-15-crown-5 ether moiety

International audienceNovel 4-amino- and 4-(acetyl)amino-N-aryl-1,8-naphthalimides containing aza-15-crown-5 ether receptor unit in the N-aryl fragment and at C-4 of the naphthalimide residue were designed and prepared. Significant internal charge transfer from electron donating amino or amido group at C-4 of the naphthalene ring to the acceptor carboxyimide moiety as well as photoinduced electron transfer between N-aryl receptor and the naphthalimide fragment was revealed by the UV/Vis absorption spectroscopy and considerable fluorescence quenching. The addition of calcium perchlorate to an acetonitrile solution of naphthalimides with the receptor at imide nitrogen hindered the photoinduced electron transfer process and accordingly restored the quenched fluorescence of the free ligands. In the case of the compound in which the aza-15-crown-5 receptor is located at C-4, the coordination with Ca2+ reduced the internal charge transfer interaction in the chromophore and caused a significant blue-shift of the absorption and emission peak. The observed spectral effects were analyzed using PM6 semiempirical calculations. Formation of complexes was also confirmed by 1H NMR spectroscopy
